Still. Huh. Dude has been with us for 10 games. He played two games. One for 3 minutes. The other for 2. Averaging 2.5mpg in two games played. In those two games he only pulled down one rebound and scored zero points (0-1). Maybe they see potential in him?

More info out of Iowa (where he went to college), but no contract details: http://www.thegazette.com/subject/sp...eason-20170329

Nerlens' per-36 after joining the Mavs:
13.9p/11.2r/1.6a/1.6s/1.9b on 58% FG and 70% FT. If we get something like that next season in a more consistent role as a regular starter... that's a franchise center.
Still can't believe we stole him from the Sixers. Thank you Colangelo!

He's already there, except his name is spelled "Uthoff."

@bobbykaralla: It's been hinted that Ferrell, Finney-Smith, Hammons, Brussino, and all other Mavs youngsters could make trip to Summer League.
@bobbykaralla: Obviously not set in stone yet, but that team could do some real damage there if that's the case.

What is the prize for summer league winners?

Sick. That might propel us to the start we need to then win a regular season trophy.

Potential Chinese signing Ding Jinhui would benefit Mavericks both on and off the court
Quote:
The Mavericks have put the wheels in motion to sign veteran Chinese swingman Ding Jinhui this summer and have him play in their summer league and likely be on their training camp roster, president of basketball operations Donnie Nelson said.

I got a free chalupa because of Wang Zhizhi. He hit the bucket to put the Mavs over 100 pts in his NBA debut. Cuban is signing Ding for the same reason he drafted Singh, except this guy might have a chance at actually stepping on an NBA court.

There were two items in the question: Develop and build around. Each is likely a different list. Lots of young players on the Mavs worth developing. Very few worth building around. Maybe only 1--Harrison Barnes. I like Seth, but is he someone you build around? Would any other team acquire him as a fundamental building block of their team?
This is the core question which kind of sums up the Mavs roster. Lots of decent parts...almost none of which any other team would consider key building blocks.

Get us a good PG and those disparate parts might actually become a decent team with chemistry.
OR get us an actual star and those 2nd/3rd options look like a lot more than just bit parts.
It's kinda like Boston-- without Thomas, none of those pieces are in the slightest bit impressive. Give them a good PG/borderline superstar and they make the ECF.

@espn_macmahon: Sources say the Mavs have informed PG Yogi Ferrell that they are picking up his team option for next season, an easy decision after he proved himself capable of being a rotation player after his promotion from the D-League.

@espn_macmahon: Source: The Mavs do not intend to exercise team option on DeAndre Liggins, who was claimed on waivers during the last week of the season.
