That'd be dumb since Cuban has said repeatedly the Mavs aren't tanking...

Dumb would be missing out on a potential franchise altering player for the miniscule chance at having the privilege of being slayed by the Warriors in round 1

Totally agree -- we could probably nab Dennis Smith if we picked that high.

Simmons compared him to Steve Francis in the Ringer draft article- which was interesting, but he said he meant it in a good way. Probably means the explosiveness off the ground. Very "quick ups" and fast with the ball.
Almost certain to have Fultz, Ball, Jackson, Tatum gone barring injury. Then it's likely Smith, Monk, Isaac, Markannen, Fox and Frank in some order. Maybe Robert Williams sneaks in top 10? Miles Bridges? Tatum? Gonna come down to team needs. Not huge into Markannen so I hope he's gone before us. He'll be a solid player but not much on the glass or defensively- rich mans Ryan Anderson.

Nuggets play Blazers and Pels 3 more times. The Mavs best shot is to be tied in standings at 8 when they play the Nuggets 2nd to last game. 7 game win streak can get them in now.

Jokic putting up over 19/11/6 in the month of March.... we're not getting the 8 seed, but if we tank now we can still potentially get a top 5 pick.

Mavs could get back in this once again with 10 games left.

3.5 games behind with 10 left to play -- the Mavs would have to finish 7-3 while the Nugs finish 2-8 for us to make the playoffs... Hell, even if we miraculously won ALL 10 games, Denver could go 6-5 in a schedule that includes 7 games against lesser teams and still retain the 8th seed.
It's over, bro.

I admire yahyes's constant optimism as misguided as it may be at times.
Just look forward to the draft which is something we rarely get to look forward to.

I get it, big guy. Just pointing out, hey... if Mavs just win out. Then they could possibly be in with playing Denver in one of the last games. So if the Mavs lose one more time. Then yeah.. it's over.

I'm more guided since I thought having Cardinal on the bench was a good idea in 2011. And the draft pick isn't going anywhere, chief. That's for sure front office will keep it.

Lottery draw is going to be boring at 10-11. No real chance to move up and almost guaranteed to be a 10 or 11.
Lottery itself? I've only half paid attention since we drafted Devin. I'm looking forward to this draft more than I've been at any time since then.

Youre also asking for Portland to go virtually winless down the stretch. They get the 8 seed in my opinion. The playoffs were over after the mavs had a 4 game homestretch and made up absolutely no ground to the other teams. No shot at that point.

Yeah, going 1-3 during this 4 game homestretch pretty much eliminated us mathematically, but getting blown out by the Sixers a couple games before that is what effectively ended our playoff hopes. This team just doesn't have the horses.

Well, I like that our odds of a top-3 pick are higher than our odds of slipping outside the top-10... We're most likely picking at 9 or 10 unless we full-on tank the rest of the season.

Which is really good. Players in 5-10 are all about equal in upside and maybe up to 11 depending on how Justin Jackson's value goes with his tournament play.
But if we pick 9 or 10, then we are basically guaranteed Monk, Markannen, Isaac, or Tilikina. People should be pretty happy about that.

Well the smart play is to have one edge to the playoffs or to a decent draft pick. Now full on tanking is stupid now of days. Mostly cause it's literally a lottery when you go top 3... But Mavs have enough to easily get in the top 10 draft now.

Minnesota won and are now at 29 wins- two behind us and they won the season series 2-1. Sacramento is at 29 wins and we have split 1-1 with one to go. How deep is your tank?

Anyone have any otter suggestions? Re-sign Quinn Cook and play him 42 mins a game?

Truth is, Rick probably isn't going to sit these guys until the Mavs are mathematically eliminated from the playoffs -- it's his job to try to win games... And I totally get him playing Barnes and Noel, but Dirk and Wes should be limited, and guys like Devin and Barea shouldn't be playing at all unless we're showcasing them for an offseason trade (which, admittedly, they've done plenty to bolster their value in the last few weeks).

@bobbykaralla: Rick Carlisle said he plans to give Jarrod Uthoff some playing time in these last nine games so Mavs can evaluate him further.

Uthoff should get most of Dirk's minutes and DFS/Brussino should get all of Wes'.
