Rich will become an unrestricted FA next summer as they decided against an extension.
Would have rather just extended him.

Same, but can’t blame Rich for betting on himself this year. Hopefully he doesn’t jet in the off-season bc I think he fits this team perfectly.

They didn't decide against. An extension would have only 120% of his current salary. That would have been a deal starting around $13.9m
Richardson will get more or just opt into his last year

DMN today...
While encouraging the Sixers to consider trade options, Kabe and Duffy of course consulted Richardson.
“Where is the No. 1 place you want to go and play?” they asked him.
“Dallas,” he immediately responded.

Great to hear! Hope we can keep him long term and not on Middleton money, maybe more like the deal Van Vleet got.

Who says the Mavs don't attract free agents?

I mean, I suppose you could use the fit defense with a lot of them since Rich obviously fit like a glove.
Still, they were unable to get guys like Gasol or Crowder this past free agency. Not exactly the cream of the crop.
And remember, Miami, Rich's former team, has a lot of cap space this summer as well.
Only takes one aggressive bid to lose a player.
But yes, I'm really glad he likes it here.

Middleton signed for about $38M per year last summer and Gordon Hayward got $30M this offseason.

The Mavs traded Seth Curry for Richardson and a second-round pick on draft night. They gave up one of the best shooters in the NBA and a key component to last year’s historic offense to upgrade their perimeter defense. The Mavericks have put JRich on the opposition’s top playmaker, but the results have been mixed.
Devin Booker and Stephen Curry have both torched Dallas this season. Richardson was the primary defender as both guards went off. The Mavs have a defensive rating of 119.6 with the 6’5 wing on the floor this season and 112.7 when he is on the bench.

Dude, We saw Curry for a long time. Barely moved the needle. Everyone constantly complained about his defense, and rightfully so. He has 2 great defenders around him now and all he has to do is shoot. Is he a better player there than here? Who cares. Curry is who we thought he was. Comparing them now is pointless because Philly is a better team and we are soft up front...soft as always.

You right it doesn't even matter....
we are soft up front been that way for years now.
You know what's crazy though for the all the hate on Lonzo Ball that dude is basically combination of Curry and Richardson put together.
Not sure why the Mavs haven't been all over him
