Because I believe you are a rational human being and no one with an IQ over 70 and free of mental defect could honestly believe that tonight's game changed anything about the Deron/Dwight race

So the Magic owner saw the game today and changes his mind "Boy, the Mavs suck, let me trade Dwight and call it a season"

uh... it's more like, "Boy, this Brook Lopez isn't half bad, he just scored 40 points, maybe we could package Dwight for him and still get a decent center back in return instead of nothing after all!"

LOL
Brooke has been in the league for 3 years now. One game isn't going to change his mind. Brooke had only 6 rebounds and gave up 18/10 to Haywood. He is a nice #2/3 option, but Lopez and some picks isn't worth Howard, not at the trade deadline.

We showcased Lopez to the Magic about as much as one possibly could in a single game, but it doesn't "flush the pipe dream down the toilet".

Agreed, I was being over dramatic. But the way last night's game played out was definitely the worst possible scenario.

False, close game so the crowd was really in to it. Plus all the players that "sucked" last night on our team won't be here next year!

Yea, i wouldn't put too much stock into 1 game, the Cavs swept the Heat the season before Lebron left. But it might have brought Lopez's name to the forefront, what 38 points against the Mavs defense!!

New twist to Avery's thinking. Probably got a call from a rough sounding guy from little Moscow.

Chris Broussard says Howard wants to sign in NJ.
Quote:
Report: Howard Prefers To Sign With Nets Outright In Summer
Feb 29, 2012 6:36 PM EST
The reportedly preference for Dwight Howard is to sign with the Nets in the offseason as a free agent, which would allow the franchise to retain the assets they do have.
Howard is enthused about teaming up with Deron Williams and he could likely receive a more lucrative adidas extension in Brooklyn.
The Magic haven't given up on keeping Howard and are interested in a trade for either Steve Nash or Monta Ellis, but both possibilities are remote.
|
It's strange-- everyone says that Deron is coming here and Howard is going to NJ to be with Deron. Only one of those things can be true. I don't think Broussard has any inside info nor is the article "news", just thought I'd share.

If we keep playing like this, neither Deron or Dwight will want to come to Dallas.

BTW after tonight our 58% win percentage is on pace for the same 47-35 that Miami was in 09-10

Only difference is that in that season, they wanted to join Wade, who was having an MVP caliber season... this year it's Dirk... who... well... yeah.

Alex Kennedy is a reliable insider that has legit sources, poor mans wojo but he gets legit info.

The Monta Ellis to Orlando rumor has legs. We'll see if Golden State is interested. I'm not sure the Magic have the assets to get it done.

The Orlando Magic have called a number of teams and one thing is clear: They're trying to surround Dwight Howard with talent, not move him.
|
Quote:
Alex Kennedy@AlexKennedyNBA
That could change, especially if the Magic aren't able to acquire any help. But as of right now, a Dwight Howard trade seems unlikely.
|

Dwight Howard has been involved in the decision-making process, which wasn't the case until now. That always bothered Dwight in the past.

Not a whole lot of options. Mostly restricted young guys. You'd have to offer the max to Eric Gordon, and/or Hibbert, in order to have a chance it not being matched, but you probably don't wanna do that if you're a GM. Same with Batum, Portland is probably ready to pay him 10, or maybe even 12 million a year, you'd have to way overpay him, like 14 million a year, in order to get him. Not worth it, imo.
It should be Deron and/or Dwight, or bust, if we can't get them, you keep giving one year contracts to players, and stay a playoff team, waiting for opportunities. Maxing out second tier all-star talent is not the answer, or if it is, the question was "do you wanna be mediocre?".
Once Dirk is done (and we didn't get Dwight and Deron) i'd prefer the "let's suck for a year or two, and get some real talent" way, but with Cuban this is obviously gonna be difficult. Hopefully he'll understand we won the championship not only because of his relentlessness (is that a word?) of not blowing up, and keep building competitive teams, but because we had Dirk Nowitzki. And you get those guys through draft, 90% of the time.

If we don't get Deron and Dwight a short term deal for Nash would make a lot of sense. Even at the age of 38 he is extremely effecient, shooting a crazy 54/40/86 line while putting up 14 PPG and 11 APG. Miles would be a nice piece to get though obviously he isn't the face of a franchise or even a second tier star. Eventually you do need a star though, you are right.

Wow. That looks bleak beyond Deron/Dwight. If they can't get one of those two then they need to seriously consider trading Dirk for some picks and youth so they can legitimately rebuild.

Now that we won the championship, it's 100% that Dirk retires as a Maverick. The only possible scenario where we trading Dirk would have been if he's 35-36, and still doesn't have a ring, and the FO lets him go, to win one somewhere else, or at least have a chance at it, ala Payton, and Malone. We won it, so that's not happening, and if i remember correctly, Dirk even has a veto option in his new contract, so yeah.
He retires as a Maverick, the only question is when. I think getting Deron and Dwight could add 2 or 3 seasons to Dirk's career. Dirk won't carry this team on his back for another 4-5 years, even if he could, you can be sure of that. If he doesn't get help, he's going to get frustrated eventually, and he's gonna retire once his contract up, at 36 imo. But if we get those 2, i really think he's playing until he's 37, or 38, so another full 4 season after that.

I railed on Kennedy and then he scooped the entire NBA world with the Barea to the starting lineup in Game 4 thing. I still have absolutely no idea how he has a source (apparently deep within the Mavs) who nobody else has. Or maybe he just got lucky.
Either way, props to him. He's definitely credible.

Doesn't Dirk have a no-trade clause in his contract? This "trade Dirk" talk is a little stupid...

Yay about Orlando making non-Howard moves. Orlando acquiring talent helps us secure Deron at a minimum.
IF we don't get Deron or Dwight, I don't think we go straight into rebuild. We still have Dirk for two years. I think you try to sign some guys like Steve Nash, Ray Allen, Grant Hill and Chris Kaman to two-year deals with Dirk, Marion, Haywood. Basically go for the mercenary model and then tear it down completely in 2014.
