The idea of selling high for a team with a small window doesn't make a lot sense.

RODDY B’S PUSH: I am willing to put a couple of Francs on this:
Rodrigue Beaubois will be back in uniform for the Mavs by the next road trip.
Carlisle was rather playful when discussing Roddy B’s recent work, breaking his policy of not discussing unavailable players while attempting to mimic Beaubois’ broken English. But as we reported last week, Roddy B’s sideline work is greatly intensifying. Now he’s not only sprinting and not only jumping, but also cutting … and initiating contact … and seemingly bearing down as his five months of relative inactivity due to a broken foot is about to end.
|
The next road trip starts on February 2, only a good week from now. Would be quite nice to have Roddy back by then, if only in limited minutes.

He pretty much HAS to come back by the beginning of February, otherwise there's not enough time to assess him with the trade deadline exactly one month from today...

I'm not basing it on anything more than watching the guy go down like a shot when hit and his small frame. This injury isn't the one I'm really thinking about. I'm thinking going into the lane and getting punished in there...It just doesn't look like he has the frame for it.

He did every chance he got last year and he was fine. He has more finesse when he has to land after contact then let's say someone like Harris. He just has insane body control in the air. He'll also probably going to add a little bit more mass, but not too much because that will affect his quickness.

I hate to be a wet blanket but...
http://mavericks.scout.com/2/1025181.html
remember that?
This time, he is just going off of a hunch...
I will say though that it would be a big leap to get one week of contact drills and then boom, you're ready.
If he's right, more power to him but I don't have anything new to say about the time-table because I haven't been told anything.

But the news of contact drills and cutting is at least a step in the right direction, no? How recent of a development is that part?

He's been planting and cutting for a week, a little more.
Nothing new in the contact drill department. All I am saying is...there hasn't been anything at all said in regards to a timetable. Carlisle has been consistent on saying they will report something when something is imminent. He even said that today...
There hasn't been any news, it is just a hunch.

That was my first thought, too. However, its not just Fish this time.

Roddy Beaubois' agent believes client will be back in 'a week or maybe two'
Posted at 2:00 PM on Mon., Jan. 24, 2011 |
Eddie Sefko / Reporter Bio | E-mail | News tips
Rick Carlisle sounded positively French when he was asked if Roddy Beaubois was seeing a light at the end of his long tunnel of inactivity.
"For sure, for sure,'' he said, mimicking the Guadalupe native's good-but-not-great English. "Absolutely.''
The Mavericks are getting a little quicker pulse thinking about Beaubois these days. The return isn't on the lip of the cup. But it's not far away, either.
Beaubois' agent, Bouna Ndiaye, said that "it could be a week or maybe two, but he's feeling much better.''
Carlisle said Beaubois is making strides each week. One of the next ones will be to actually get into a full-contact practice.
So far, Beaubois has been running and cutting and stopping and starting while shooting 3-pointers and such. But until he goes through a practice without any consequences on his surgically repaired left foot, there will be no timetable. He's yet to play this season.

Sorry for bugging you on Twitter... I figured if there was anything official that you would have let us know, but then again, I figured that pesky, repetitive questions are what you get for being on the inside.

I still think it's closer to the 2 week hovering into 3 range, I would definitely be happy to be overestimating.
With how careful they have been in the situation, less than a week of contact drills (because it hasn't happened yet) seems awfully quick.

See, my default thinking is that once he's cleared to start moving like he'd move in a game, and to start taking the contact that comes with playing in games, you go ahead and activate him (with perhaps an additional caveat about him needing to be in good enough game shape that he doesn't tire out after a few trips up and down the court).
Maybe he's your 12th man the first couple games back, but if the risk of re-injury has pretty much reached its asymptotic lower bound, why wait?

Trust me, I know
1st week of Feb has a total of 3 games which would be "lost."
The Cleveland game has always been a game I thought would be a good, if not great, trial run.

Being healthy is being healthy. If he's allowed contact drills in practice and goes through a few I don't see why you wouldn't put him on the court. If he's healthy then put him out there.

It will be very interesting to see how much the trade deadline and the perceived need to evaluate Roddy's impact could affect his return date. Even if he did return as early as next week, there would be only nine games left until the deadline. Therefore, three games more or less could actually make a difference. If the Mavs thought they need to know what they have in Roddy, they would perhaps be inclined to give it a go a little earlier instead of waiting for him to be 110% healthy.
Considering that the Mavs said they need to have Dirk and Roddy back to see what their needs are in light of Butler's injury, it's not exactly thrilling to only have nine games left to make an evaluation with regards to their needs. On the one hand, it's hard to imagine that Roddy will be at his best right from the start. On the other hand, nine games aren't enough to see what this current team is made of due to a lack of playing time as a group.
In order to have as good an idea as possible on how to use Caron's contract (or not), Roddy being back soon could certainly help a lot.

i really don't understand how the trade deadline affects when roddy comes back. is this just a Fish theory? are people really thinking he'll play earlier than he would normally just so they can evaluate the team's need for a trade? this makes no sense to me.
overall, it's great news that he's getting close.

I wouldn't think so, since he reinjured it by coming back too early.

ah,,,,,,, didnt know this.
reinjuring something usually hurts more than the initial injury and really slows thing down.
i had just had 12 screws and 2 plates in my left ankle once and had an issue with some stairs on crutches once. lost my balance and instinctively put weight on that leg to try to catch myself and blew the docs new work all to hell.
had to wait 18 days before he could even rebuild it (re-rebuild it i guess would be more accurate.)
(now have a total of 31 screws, 2 rods, 3 plates. originally just had 12 screws)
thankfully roddy is not in that boat so i suppose i should try to be patient.

I didn't think about that. - was just thinking that he tried to do too much with it too early once already, so pain threshold wasn't the problem then.

He actually (and finally) admitted that he re broke his foot the 2nd time he got injured.

Rodrigue Beaubois: "The France national team told me 'a month and a half'. But Dallas then it made me realize that this type of injury (fracture of the fifth metatarsal in his left foot) required two or three months off. Then it was completely healed, [we] no longer saw the wound on the radio, but when doing an exercise, a small crack reappeared. The second injury takes longer to heal so it's annoying, but that's life."
Q: "How did you hurt yourself at the France NT?"
Roddy: " In fact, I felt a pain in the early summer, but I did not know what it was. It disappears and it came back, so I kept playing it. I did not feel pain recurring, but it came and went. I should('ve) worried about it a little more. And during a workout, I do a sprint and change direction and it was too bad. A big pain, I never had pain like that."

I so f'ing called it on December 19th.
