I know I said earlier that I thought the Harden-Nets thing would happen, but thinking and reading about it more, I think now it'll be Philly. Harden for Simmons + picks/swaps and whatever else to make the salaries match.

So Dwight Howard tweets that he's staying with the Lakers, then deletes the tweet and supposedly signs with the Sixers, and but apparently the deal isn't actually done and now he's "considering all of his options."
That is the most Dwight Howard thing ever.

did we have enough money available to match? - seems like a reasonable deal given the promise he showed. too bad...

Only time will tell if he’s worth it. It’s not outrageous money if he plays up to his promise.
If he turns into a Dampier who got paid and then stopped rising?
Then it’s still not awful but a bit of an overpay

These deals are so short now that you can afford to take more risks now and not have to worry about it hurting you for 6 or 7 years.

Would’ve been a SnT. That’s what Pistons/Rockets did.

I think this was one giant complicated trade that just took until now to complete. The 30th pick in the draft. The Ariza trade. The buying of the 2nd rounder. And this sign and trade

Makes sense. So the cost would’ve been our #18. Josh Green better pan the F out.

Fun fact. Gordon Hayward now has more $120 million contracts than all-star appearances over the course of his career.

Yeah, looking at the money getting thrown around and how desperate teams are right now, I'm actually glad the Mavs weren't players in free agency this time. If we're going to break the bank, I'd rather it least be for an all-nba player.

Isn't that deal cheaper than what the Mavs are paying Porzingis?

People are trashing Whiteside to Kings, but man, 15/13 on a one year deal isn't the worst thing in the world. I know he is a stat padder, but this is the Kings we're talking about.

Wow I did not realize he put up 15/13 last season....He's not a ideal big man and he does represent sort of the outdated big man but you can do a lot worse than him. I wouldn't have been mad if the Mavs looked at him. I understand he's inconsistent but man the vet. minimum?

Westbrook to Houston - Houston sends 2 1st round picks and 2 possible pick swaps
Westbrook to Washington - Houston gets a single 1st round pick
And Houston went from Paul (the point guard god) to Wall (the busted up point guard)
UPGRADE!

How bad is Westbrook that he nets you never going to play John Wall and a PROTECTED 2023 first rounder? Embarrassing. You know he is pissed.

I have to say something I never thought I'd say..... Thank you Houston.
I have not laughed so hard this year. Truly, I thank you so very much.
And the best part is this will likely lead to more laughter soon. Because I can already see Houston fans justifying this trade and saying they are better. Because there are twitter clips of Wall and Harden playing pickup games together and he looks healthy. Well- Dwight Howard posts videos of himself shooting 3's yet Unicorn he is not. But yeah, when John wall was at his absolute very best he wasn't as good as Westbrick and I can't stand Westbrick. I can't believe how the 3 worst contracts in the NBA have now all been a Houston Rocket and somehow they have managed to keep outdoing themselves.
Thank you Houston. 2020 needed this.

Of course. Beal CAN play defense, he just chose not to last year since the team was going nowhere

DeMarcus Cousins: [Cousins reacts to the John Wall trade on social media.]
I didn’t even think about the fact that Cousins and Wall are reunited (not that either player is near their peak self).

Cousins isn't even guaranteed. Not even sure how that is a thing.

Mavs need to get a good trade package together either way. Mil will likely want to trade him at the deadline to get value back if he doesn't extend.
The million dollar question is whether we trade them KP or not.

You're right that the Mavs need to be prepared for any scenario, but I think it's incredibly unlikely that Milwaukee trades him before the season is over. They're still arguably the best team in the east, and they still have a legitimate shot at the title this year. As of right now, all signs indicate he is far more likely to sign the supermax than to demand out. And even if he doesn't extend, you still have the whole season to make a title run and convince him to stay. The only way they trade him is if he demands it, or if he flat out tells them that he will not re-sign. Their season would have to be an unmitigated disaster for them to trade Giannis before the deadline. You don't trade a generational superstar unless you know 100% that you can't keep him.
