I was thinking if the Magic could hold on against the Thunder, that'd go a long way toward building serious positive vibes for these final two weeks. Then they folded like a lawnchair. Whoops.

How about :
Magic pull off some non Howard moves (Nash?) and Howard decides to opt in his last year to give it another run. Deron says of course fuck it im going home and signs with the Mavs. The Mavs keep Marion, Roddy, Carter and fill the rest with 1 year contracts and contend in 12-13.
In 2013 same game, dump Marion with Roddy and Dwight has the option to sign with Dirk and Deron. Of course with a little bit bigger paycut than in 2012 but he has Deron/Carlisle/Cuban. 2014 Dirk expires and the Mavs could use the cap room to sign a 3rd "co star" in the ~8-12M range.

Sources: Magic eye Monta Ellis trade
Magic getting a wee bit desperate. Trying to get Ellis without giving up Howard? Why would the Warriors give up their franchise player?

"Mavs would sign Nash if they miss on D-Will"
http://www.fannation.com/truth_and_r...SI&eref=fromSI
Quote:
On the same day it was reported that the Suns would like to keep Steve Nash for at least two more years, the idea of "Dirk and Nash, Part II" has been floated. It doesn't make much sense, but it could be a reality if Deron Williams decides to stay in New Jersey. [According to ESPN.com, there are NBA people who] believe the Mavericks could try to sign Phoenix Suns point guard Steve Nash if other options fall through. [Marc Stein] wrote Wednesday that "sources with knowledge of the Dallas Mavericks' thinking say that the defending champs will definitely try to reunite Nash and Dirk Nowitzki in free agency in July if top targets Dwight Howard and Deron Williams elude them."

Ellis is their wet dream but yeah, i doubt its do-able for them. But im pretty confident they could get Nash. Nash with a bad contract (Childress, Warrick) for Nelson/Redick/1st.

Yea, that's pretty much how I'd think they'd get Ellis, Biedrins packaged with Ellis for cap space. GSW's franchise player is a it undersized for his position, Kobe took him to the ringer in crunch time. Now it does say, we're taking step back, but we're saving cap space, bettering our chances in the lottery.....blah, blah, blah, but Ellis isn't going to be #1 on a championship team. Ellis will keep GSW at 35-40 wins, which is about 13-14th in the lottery.

Beleza!
I don't know what other teams have cap in 2013 but presumably Dallas would be at the top of the list of options for Dwight. They also may be inclined to throw money at Paul, Blake, etc.

If that's how it's executed, and they give up 1sts in return (which may be very valuable if they have to rebuild), the Magic are going all in for Howard. They'll have Biedrins, Big Baby, Richardson and Hedo all on long ugly deals and little way to rebound. Basketball may be dead in Orlando for 10 years.

The Warriors did an incredible stupid move to use the AR on the small expiring contract of Charlie Bell.
Could have used on Biedrins to erase his contract. Now using Ellis (kind of) to dump Biedrins would look stupid...

Moronic, I thought when this ownership group took the reigns from Cohan, things would change, but it's more of the same idiotic garbage. You don't commit, until you have to. They say they needed the space to pursue Chandler and then Jordan. You don't give Jordan 15 per over 4, the Clippers will match it. Owernship wanted to show they're turning a new leaf and were aggressive....no matter how much odds were stacked against them. Purely stupid. Shocked that Jerry West and Mark Jackson didn't warn them about that. Made no sense at all. I mean to make a move like that, you had to know you had a shot at the guy, so why not create more cap space by unloading Biedrins and offering Jordan 4 years 60 million, rather then the 4 year 40. Idiots. GSW is run by nothing but idiots. At least Mullin knew what he was doing when he was there, it's the non basketball people who were power hungry turned that franchise upside down.
Yep, doing that would look stupid, and to be honest, that is probably what is holding them back, fear of looking stupid, but when you have a chip in your pocket.....use it. They won't ever get it. It's embarrassing.

If I am the Mavs I make the push for D Will first....we need a long term STAR pg. Then I think that will help convince Howard. We all know how its going to look if we have 3D.
BUT...in case we don't get Howard...it will be very interesting how we fill out the roster.
IMO...one of the young players we should def. go after if he proves to be healthy is E. Gordon at the SG.
altho not favorable...this line up inst too bad.
D Will/ Kidd
Gordon/ Jet
Marion/??
Dirk/ ??
Haywood/ ??
** and we would be able to add plenty of depth with the rest of the money or some moves IMO

We cant push fo anything. This will happen in the summer:
1) Dwight decides if he stays in Orlando or not
2) If not, they both will sit at a barbeque and decide if they play together in Dallas or Brooklyn.
Case closed.

#1 will be based on how far Orlando makes it in the playoffs - anything less than a non-sweep Finals appearance probably won't keep him there.
#2 will be based on whether or not Cuban can find a suitor for Shawn Marion (or Brendan Haywood)... I've heard people say that no team will help Dallas out with this since nobody wants 3D to happen, but short memories have already forgotten how willing Minnesota was to take Beasley off Miami's hands so they could land LeBron/Bosh. If Cubes can make it happen, then Dirk/Dwight/Deron > Dwight/Deron.

Ahh from what you are saying is that if Dwight stays ...D Will will not come to Bid D?? I very much disagree with that.

I don't see Dwight coming in here. D-Will probably would've if Dwight didn't want out of Orlando. Now the two are joining forces for sure and the thing is, if they came here they'd be 2nd and 3rd fiddles to Dirk- but Dwight wants to be Kobe. He wants the ball in crunch time, but he certainly wouldn't if he was here.

Dwight might want to be the guy and he can be that here. IMO Dirk will gladly move aside to make room for Dwight because Dirk knows that they wuld make things so much easier for each other. They can both avrg. 20 + and you add D Will....its would bw monster team.
As for crunch time dont kidd yourself...the ball wuld be in either Dirks or D Wills hands and if its a situation where it makes sense for it to be in Howards ..i am sure it would find him.

This is probably true. It's likely going to come down to a mutual decision between them--the kind friends make together.
Fortunately, the Mavs have so many things on their side in that discussion. I like our chances if that happens.

They will have to collude to get to the Mavs... But since that is now openly done by players I'm sure they will do it. I cannot decide if them having the same agent ( they do not) would be advantageous or not.

No, im saying that It will depend on Dwight and not on Deron (getting Deron so we lure Dwight too).
Of course we are getting Deron if Dwight stays. But if Dwight leaves it will be them both deciding together and not Deron doing a first move (to Dallas) and Dwight following him because of this.

There is some talk that if Orlando can somehow get a player like ellis, nash, or Josh Smith Dwight might opt in for next year

time is running out for whom? Deron/Dwight can decide this year late to stay as well as go.
What I see is that if the nets/magic don't make a move in 11 days then they are all-in on keeping those guys, nj is probably going to be anyway...magic not so sure.

I thought it was only technically a violation if they conspire before the free agency period begins. Y'know, like what the Miami guys did.
