They don't have any picks to trade.

I think JJB and DeShawn are replaceable parts. I see Chandler or an equivalent center as essential. Haywood is not quick enough , and will be a hack a Shaq liability at the end of games.

I'd want Turiaf in the deal. Mavs can afford to be more aggressive since trading Billups and amnestying make a big difference in how the Knicks will upgrade the rest of their roster.

After reading Adrian W's tweets, Chauncey is taking these rumors like a bitch.

I'd be shocked if he hated a trade to the world champs.

He has every right to be. He wanted to stay in Denver. They got rid of him because NY wanted him along with Melo. If he gets the clause used on him, the teams with the poorest record get the first crack at signing him. At his age, he wants to play for a contender or his hometown (Denver).

Those tweets are about the possibility of the Knicks amnestying (that's probably not a word) him. We can't pick up Billups if they amnesty him, because then it's basically become an auction amongst non tax payer teams. But why would they amnesty him? I don't get it. I just read this.
Quote:
John Hollinger: As one of my readers just pointed out, S&T for Billups (rather than amnesty) also gives Knicks full MLE and biannual exceptions.
|
So why would they amnesty him? I would hate this, i got really pumped up by the idea of bringing Chauncey in, it would be a really nice early Christmas present, especially because i forget we could actually trade Tyson for some good value knowing he won't sign a 1 year deal. I thought he will just bolt, now we have a chance to actually get something for a player we know won't accept Cubes offer. Would be great. Get it done please.

Imagine how Amare feels being traded to NO. I'd be just as pissed if I were him.
Hard to blame NY though. CP, Melo, Chandler...that is a real backbone to championships -- almost no weaknesses.

I think this rotation could compete for another title:
PG: Kidd 24 / Chauncey 24
SG: Jet 25 / Rudy 13 / Roddy 10
SF: Marion 30 / Brewer 18
PF: Dirk 35 / Turiaf 13
C: Haywood 30 / Mahinmi 18

With Billups we keep our flexibility for next summer, and we get a great player, though may not the best fit, but a great talent anyway. I don't get it why we wouldn't want that contract back. Well, other than paying it.

I thought the big deal about the new CBA was to bail teams out for making dumb deals in the past.

Hmmm... maybe Mavs will S&T Tyson to Knicks and just take back Turiaf, then go after Billups in FA if he clears waivers. Or maybe they have no interest.

I think we might be jumping ship early. We have to wait on Tyson and see what his plans are, these are just media types jumping on rumors, hearing plans, going direct to the players. I think Billups would be happy here, would hate to sit and miss a week of TC then find out where he's going. The guy can play both guard spots, alongside Kidd and either can defend the big guard. He has a nice shot from the stripe, another leader. He's a great glue guy to get us to summer 2012. Show the league we're versatile enough to win back to back with different role players. I think it's a good move to snag billups.

How ironic that the very owner who has a reputation of being one of the cheapest guys in the NBA finds the money to pay 31-year-old Caron Butler $8 million per year, although said player hasn't been on the court an entire year due to a serious knee injury. And they've been saying for years that Cuban's the owner most likely to overpay players...

No, it couldn't because Haywood is mediocre (at best) and Mahinmi sucks, and it would be just like all the Mavs teams like when we had to rely on guys like Shawn Bradley and Erick Dampier before the 2010-2011 team, great but no center and no championship. We lost one of the best centers in the NBA. If we don't end up getting Dwight or at least another pretty good center at some point between this season and next I'm really not even going to humor myself with thoughts of another championship.

Of course, Jesus is a Dirk fan.
Lebron belongs to the other guy. That took place when he went to the "Heat"

Butler worth 8 million, i wanted him back badly, but not for that money, have fun with playing 82 games a year!

Too bad the Nets backed out on Butler (or the Clippers bidding too much).
Would be good when the Nets blow such a huge amount of cap at Butler...
