Well, I'm going to now assume that the deadline has passed with not a single trade having been made that in any way impacts the playoff picture in the West, or the fortunes of the top teams in the East. Easy to get frustrated with the Mavs FO for not doing anything when it seemed like there were so many options out there, but the fact that literally nothing of interest has happened tells me that would probably be unfair, and that the market just ended up being far more conservative than most people expected.
I'm a glass is half full kinda guy, so I'm just going to take a deep breath, remind myself that none of the Mavs competitors upgraded, that even though JET's currently out of commission, Wright has started looking like a real contributor, Ginobli's jacked up, TMac's out for the season, the Lakers recently traded away one of their rotation guys for cap relief and a bad porn 'stache, and that none of the major trade chips the Mavs had at their disposal will have lost any value when the summer roles around.
Bring on the rest of the season, and lets see what these guys can do.

As long as teams call the office before the deadline, trades can still be announced later. The NBA office must make sure on realgm.com that the submitted trade can work.

I don't see why our FO wouldn't get rid of Stack now. To get rid of him next year would mean to possibly take on another 10.5 million worth of salary (due to luxury tax 5.25x2).
Oh well.

Houston's chances just got better....Rafer sent to Orlando for Brian Cook, Grizz ship Lowry to Houston for a 1st.....Houston got better by unloading Rafer.

I think people want moves that will benefit this team now so we can make a run this year while this team is a year younger. I mean yea Stack's contract will still be useful in the offseason for NEXT season but what about this year?

You don't "get rid of" your most valuable trade asset. You use it. And it will still be useable in the offseason.
Everyone go read what _c posted. And then read it again. And then take a deep breath.
Other teams that had positioned themselves as buyers actually DID waste expiring contracts. Portland got nothing for Lafrentz and will now see him walk without enough cap room to do anything.
Cleveland did the same with Wally.
Really, no one made a move of major consequence. The Rockets traded away their starting PG. New Orleans did their best to sell their only center.
Everyone just breathe.
If, at the start of next season, Stack's trade chip has not been used, THEN you can freak out and curse this front office.

Yea I was wondering about that as well. I'm not familiar with Rafer this year but he was a big reason for the Rockets success last season when T-Mac went out. I guess they like Lowry's potential. Has he developed a jump shot yet?

I wish we knew what the FO turned down. That might give my license to be really ticked off. This is what I expected.. nothing. Well the good news is that the Mavs playoff chances rest in the hands of JHo and Stack.....

standing pat isn't the worst scenario in the world... it sure beats trading an all-star point guard entering his prime and lots of money for a former all-star player past his prime.
It could be worse.

Phoenix will win the 4th spot. We are competing against Utah and Houston for the last spots the rest of the season.

The Suns throttled the Clippers, THE CLIPPERS. Hell, half the team prob didnt realize the all star break had eneded. Lets not make huge predictions based on 2 games.

Idiotic statement.
If Kidd walks this off season not only do we lose our second best player and a point guard who can win us a championship, but it also means we missed out on a huge opportunity to use Kidd's contract as a major trade asset this trade deadline. We'll be empty handed and less of a franchise because of it so think twice before you bring that filthy crap in here.

The Mavs (Donnie) actually believe that Dallas is a premier destination for free agents in 2010. Let's see how that goes. With half the teams in the league selling their rosters off, and only 8-10 or so coveted free agents out there, it's unlikely we land a solid top 3. We're NOT the cowboys.

Donnie needs to be fired. This franchise has done nothing but regress under his leadership.

Jeah this.
We need to aim for Joe Johnson.
Chicago, Miami, New York just offer more in terms of basketball lore and city glam.
Donno about Detroit.

We'll the Mavs f*cked up again. Nothing new.
And it is a wasted season because they aren't good enough to beat the Celtics, Cavs, Lakers in the playoffs. They are just playing out the string for the rest of the year.
It will be fun, just sucks knowing they aren't title contenders and the FO as usual do nothing to improve the team.

I would have been happy with that but they didn't make a deal at all, Earl could defend the fast Pg's that kill the Mavs all the time.

Fast PG's that kill the Mavs all the time?
Devin Harris holds the world record for fastest player with a basketball, yet I seem to remember some 5-18 shooting from him. Yep, that's a real killer.
