Actually really like that idea. If Curry came in healthy, he was going to be begging for 15-20mill. Shooting is incredibly important and the Currys can definitely do that. We've paid him to do nothing but rehab so there's gotta be some loyalty there, plus I can't see other teams offering much more. Make it a 1+TO or a 1+TO+PO so we can get some semblance of bird rights and flexibility if he's never good again.
The three biggest problems this team has
1) rebounding
2) defense
3) shooting
Drafting Ayton/Bamba could address the rebounding and defense. Having Curry either next to Smith or sparking the offense with reserves would at least partially help the shooting.

He's a no-brainer signing from what he showed us last year. At the very least he will provide shooting, as you said. I think he has more potential than that for us, but would love to know if this injury has any long term affect. Sounds like they've pushed it, but the fracture is just slow healing and they shut it down or realllly dialed it back. I'm sure once it heals, he should be fine. Then again...I'm no doctor.

Tank commander Seth Curry out for the season per Woj. Surgery on his left tibia to be done soon. Yikes, leg surgeries are always a big concern. Guess you could sign him for the min though this summer.

That could be good news for us, but sucks for him.

Doesn't sound terrible. Sounds like he was trying to avoid surgery by coming up with a plan to reduce the load on the stress fracture, but it just didn't take. Surgery was described as last resort and saw elsewhere he is expected to be 100% recovered and ready to go by July, and certainly for next season.

1year + Team Option
Let him walk and wish him well if he's a trainwreck
Get bird rights and a second year for cheap if he gets back to being amazing

@espn_macmahon: The Mavs plan to sign swingman Scotty Hopson to a 10-day contract in the coming days, according to league sources. Hopson, 28, a former Tennessee star, has been playing in Europe.

Holy Crap!
Figured this was the best place to post this. If not mods, feel free to move it. Just let me know where you move it to.
Dan Fegan has been a very good friend of the Mavs the last few years.

NBA agent Dan Fegan killed when his SUV was hit by bus on Highway 82 near Aspen
https://www.aspentimes.com/news/rfta...en-highway-82/
This doesn't necessarily pertain to the Mavericks, but he did represent a bunch of ex-Mavs, including Jason Terry, Shawn Marion, Chandler Parsons, Eddie Najera, Erick Dampier, and Antoine Walker, just to name a few... He was also pals with Mark Cuban, even though he whiffed on the Dwight Howard and DeAndre Jordan deals.

Holy crap! That's terrible. Seriously, we're all on the bring of death on highways, but I figure winter conditions around there doesn't help.

@BallinWithBryan: The Mavericks did not extend a second 10-day contract to Scotty Hopson.
Dallas did announced today that they have signed forward Jameel Warney to a 10-day contract.
@BallinWithBryan: Jameel Warney (@Fullcoursemeelz) has averaged 19.8 points, 9.5 rebounds, 1.1 steals, and 1.2 blocks for the Texas Legends this season. In addition, he’s been a big part of USA Basketball. He was named the 2017 USA Basketball Male Athlete of the Year.

Hmm. Wonder if this reflects how the team feels about Motley (not good).

Might be too raw still -- there's a big difference between the G-League and the NBA... Who knows how he looked in practice?

Happy for Warney. Guy sounds like he works his ass off.
As far as Motley, I'm going with raw and at times, injured. I'm willing to bet he is learning a ton more from being with the pro club for a while now. Most likely to hone in his defensive responsibilities. I'd love to see him clean up boards and get easy buckets. I think he could do for this team in a few years what Powell is doing now, just at a much nicer contract number.

Good article with insight from Nerlens Noel and relationships with DSJ and Carlisle:
https://www.mavs.com/nerlens-noel-on...urn-to-dallas/
I honestly can see him being our starter next season. It will be extremely interesting to see how his market plays out and see if he values himself a little smarter now.

@TheSteinLine: As the Mavericks near the end of Jameel Warney’s 10-day contract, league sources say Dallas is lining up a 10-day deal next with Aaron Harrison of the @nbagleague’s Reno Bighorns

Matthews will only work starting at sg or coming off the bench. BUT, I think he can still work out in the right situation despite my disdain for him. A defensive wing like him is very valuable if the playoffs are a serious goal.

@wojespn: Dallas Mavericks assistant Kaleb Canales is joining the New York Knicks coaching staff, league sources tell ESPN. Canales has been with the Mavericks since 2013. He was the interim head coach with Blazers in 2012.

Lots of turnover on RC’s coaching staff this offseason. I’m glad. I think some fresh faces will be good for the team.

@DwainPrice: Michael Finley has been promoted by the @dallasmavs. Formerly the team's assistant vice-president of basketball operations, Finley is now the Mavs' vice-president of basketball operations.

This is a great read... The apple doesn't fall far from the tree in the Nelson family!
From drinking snake’s blood to winning Olympic gold in China, Tony Ronzone’s journey through basketball has taken one incredible turn after another
https://www.mavs.com/from-drinking-s...after-another/
Quote:
Once Nelson and Ronzone arrived in China, they spent some time getting to know some of the Chinese leaders on the scene. One night, as they were all out for dinner, it was time to test the loyalty and trust of Nelson and Ronzone. One of their traditions involved bringing in a bag of snakes.
“In the bag, there were four or five snakes and they asked Donnie to pick a snake out,” Ronzone recalled. “Of course, Donnie picks the biggest one. It was a king cobra.”
They took the snake that Nelson chose and took it to the back to chop it up. Ronzone said they had no clue what to expect. The snake was served as a meal next and, to Ronzone’s delight, it tasted quite well. But then the meeting took a quick turn.
They brought out a liquid, red with a little green mixed in. It was the snake’s blood, and it was Nelson’s to drink. If you wanted to be a trusted member of the group, you had to drink the snake’s blood.
“Of course, Donnie decides to pass it down to me,” Ronzone remembered. “I took the blood in honor of Donnie and the Dallas Mavericks to help promote our relationship in the country of China.”

@ESefko: Congratulations to Mavericks' guard Dennis Smith Jr., who will play in the NBA Africa Game on Aug. 4 in Pretoria, South Africa. He'll be joining Harrison Barnes on the trip. Barnes previously had been named as a participant in the game that benefits the Nelson Mandela Foundation.
