Well of course it's a news story. But we know he didn't take drugs. We know that MLB was informed of the incident when it happened. So all I'm saying is the story's going to go away soon.
And I disagree that his performance is going to effect how long the story persists. This is the Rangers, not the Cowboys. The Rangers don't get scrutinized to that extent. Does the casual baseball fan even realize how freaking terrible Josh has already been this season? I don't think so.

He started the all-star game, after all.

Holland is pitching a gem right now. Just gave up his first hit, which is why I feel fine posting this now.

he's throwing some wicked stuff....angel batters in the 7th swung at 3, maybe 4 pitches or more that wound up in the dirt.

Gotta hand it to them....they're giving themselves a reason to trudge on and keep going. Errors or no, that was a hell of a nice win.

BTW, it wasn't just a great performance. You can't overstate how imporant this game was. Against one of the best offenses in baseball, in their park, with Lackey on the mound.
Seriously, this was freaking huge. What an incredible game from Der-Hol (my favorite underground nickname for him).

holy Derek Holland batman!!
9-3 vs Angels
5-1 vs Red Sox
= 14-4 vs the two teams we are battling for a playoff spot currently.

Man, is that serious huge this weekend or what?
The Angels have now lost 4 of 6. If we can put that dreadful Oakland series behind us, maybe we can pick up ground if the Angels are finally coming back down to earth.

It's official. My new favorite team is whoever is playing the Red Sox...and the Double A's. It would be amazing if the Rangers made the playoffs, as long as they didn't have to go to Detroit.

Major man-crush on Holland right now. His performance yesterday was amazing. And Esteban German pitched in nicely, I thought.

You've got to love what you're getting out of some of those pitchers that you control for quite awhile in the rotation.. such as Feldman, Holland, Hunter... and of course Feliz will move into the rotation at some point (not sure if he'll stay..but let's hope). And Nippert has been a savior to this team the past few weeks.

This TB/Angels game looks so very interesting, as the Double A's tie it in the 6th. Wish I could find a feed. I'm jonesing for some sports.

Huge news from the Rangers..
Perez promoted to Frisco. Some have had this teenage phenom as the highest rated pitching prospect in the Rangers system. I can't wait to see him pitch.

Martin Perez has been promoted to Frisco....
18 y/o Martin Perez has been promoted to AA Frisco....
I'm sitting here trying to come up with the words to describe how big a deal this is to the non-baseball nerd.
This is like our very own King Felix. That may not mean anything to the non-baseball nerd.
Screw it, this is huge.
Edit to add: I think the second youngest player in AA is 20.....

Heyward just turned 20.
Regardless, the next youngest player in the Texas League, how's that.

mad bum did too. Also if you are a prospect follower, youve probably heard how mad bum is the greatest thing since sliced bread. If you take a look at his peripherial numbers though, they are pretty average at best.

His peripherals are all excellent with the the sole exception of strikeouts in AA. Average at best? Are we talking about the same Madison Bumgarner?
In 247 minor league innings, he has a 1.68 ERA, 195 hits allowed, 49 walks, 246 Ks, and only 8 HR allowed. That's a WHIP under 1. His peripherals are excellent, except for the 59 Ks in 81 innings at AA, which is only average to slightly above average. He turned 20 10 days ago. He might not be the greatest thing since sliced bread, but he's pretty lose.
That said, Perez is freakin' sweet. If I get the chance, I would love to go out to Frisco to catch one of his starts.

Yeah im talking about AA. His fip is 3.51 good but not great. Dont get me wrong, the kids very very good but everyone acts like hes untouchable. He has a plus, not plus plus fastball. He has poor secondary stuff. He does have absolutely amazing fastball command which to go along with a good fastball means he will likely be a 3 but i really dont see him being much more than that. His Era is largely due to his ridiculous strand rate.
Pitcher A 6.56 K/9, 2.67 BB/9, 2.46 k/bb, 258 BABIP, 81.9 strand rate. 3.51 fip
Pitcher B 3.21K/9, 1.20BB/9, 2.67K/bb, 336 Babip, 61.0 strand rate. 3.47 fip
Both 20 in AA. One isnt considered a top 100 prospect by most, the other is supposed to be top 5 or so? I know you cant go purely by numbers with prospects but its kinda funny.

Wrong. Perez has a great curve and a good changeup.
http://www.bbtia.com/home/author/joe...?currentPage=4
Quote:
Perez wields an above-average repertoire of pitches with which he can summarily dispatch his opponents, including a lively low-to-mid-90s fastball (which he is capable of ramping up to 95 mph), the much-acclaimed "hammer" curveball and a change-up that, according to industry publication Baseball America, has developed into a killer pitch during the course of this season -- reportedly thrown with 12-14 mph of separation from his fastball with similar arm speed -- which has enabled him to neutralize right-handed hitters (.225 BAA), a demographic which had proven a thorn in his side one year earlier at short-season Spokane.
|
That was written shortly before the trade deadline about Perez.
EDIT: Also, you say Perez has only a plus fastball. I agree with you, but the kid is only 18. Give it a couple years, and that fastball could easily gain 3-4 mph's and be considered a plus plus.

consistency seems to be this team's only problem. they beat the good team, and lose to the bad teams. c'mon guys.

Isn't baseball extremely coin-tossy that way?
every night you have at best a 60% chance of winning the game.
One can blame the randomness of baseball instead of inconsistency also.
