Not the current situation that he gets the DNP-CD, its his FA situation. Offseason surgery as FA sucks. After signing a contract he still has to pass the physical etc.
So it makes a lot of sense if they found out the past 1-2 weeks that he need a surgery sooner or later

If you think about it, makes more sense than some random bullshit conspiracy because you're angry that Noel didn't work out here. Who cares really. We'll get a big in the draft next year and get to see Motley for a bit.
|
I agree. Under different circumstances Noel plays through this injury. Agent tells him, go ahead and do it now so you will be 100% ready to play after you get traded. No sense in waiting to see if it recovers on its own, because the Mavs are not going to play you anyway.

@BallinWithBryan: The Mavs officially announced that Nerlens Noel underwent surgery to repair a torn ligament in his left thumb. At this time, a timetable for his return has not been set.

So...
Dec 13th (Wednesday) Noel can be traded in a package. Currently he can only be traded solo and only if he signs off.
If he stays a Mav, he keeps his full bird rights, but flounders on our bench the rest of the season and probably doesn't even get a good offer utilizing the bird rights.
If he agrees to a trade, he loses all bird rights-- even early bird. Teams over the cap can only use the MLE (about 8.4 mill a year) or smaller exceptions with which to sign. Teams under the cap can still offer him any any amount they have up to the max, but there aren't as many teams in the running.

Julius Randle, Nerlens Noel Swap Discussed with Mavericks
http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2...mming-national
@All_Things_Mavs: They talked before Noel’s surgery, but it sounds like that ended whatever preliminary discussions they had going on.

This is why I’m terrified about our draft position. Already only second and we’re going hard to win now.

I would expect the trade talks between these two teams to heat up again by the trade deadline. Nerlens should be healthy by then.

Randle sucks ass. Black hole. Rick is going to bench his ass within a few games. No way in hell the Mavs would pay him longterm

You and a few ther have brought this up and I am not sure what you are basing this on?? He is far from a finished product, but his skill set is undeniable and he put up numbers and rebounds. I think it would be a great deal since NN isn’t going to be here and it could be a great fit along DSJ. RC would have to work with him on some stuff but our offense would be very intriguing.

Well...ask and read on a Lakers board. There is a reason why the Lakers PF Ranking is
1) Kuzma
2) Nance
3) Randle
Even before Kuzma there wasnt many willing to pay and keep Randle longterm

I mean, I'm sure the Lakers want to attach Deng to Randle, in which I'm not really interested, but I think some of you are unrealistic about what you're going to get for Noel.
Randle is the perfect high talent, fallen angel type that will be available. The fact that he is from Dallas likely plays a role here.
We all dream of teams throwing picks at us for Noel, but picks are highly coveted these days. The next best thing is a young, former high pick that hasn't quite panned out.
Anyway, trades that we know about that haven't happened likely won't.

They need to attach way more if they want to dump Deng.

Exactly. Randle’s trade value is about as high as Nerlens’ is. I believe they don’t have their 1st round pick unless it’s the #1 overall pick and that isn’t going to happen. So the only way they will be able to dump Deng’s contract is if they attach Brandon Ingram or one of those rookies. If they dump Deng then I’d say they have to be the favorite to sign Labron, so the incentive is huge for them if they really do intend to pursue Labron. In the end though I think they will figure out a way to dump Deng, keep the youth AND sign Labron.

I don’t think trading for Randle would mean the intention is to sign him long term. You’re just taking the player for a test drive without taking on any money. If he sucks then let him walk and the Mavs keep their cap space. If by some chance he actually works out you’re in great position to resign him. Everyone already knows Nerlens isn’t staying so Randle (or another player in Randle’s position) might be the best they can hope to get for Nerlens.

From what I've seen of Randle, he has a very low BBIQ which is why the Lakers are wanting to dump him. Given RC's track record with those guys, trading for him would be very pointless.
Clarkson on the other hand would be nice. I like him a lot in limited minutes or even primary backup role.

@ESefko: Nerlens Noel came through the locker room to get ready for a workout, cast still on his left hand. He had thumb surgery on Dec. 8. Says he gets cast off in a week and wants to "come back firing."

We could also just waive Noel and pick up some dog poo instead of trading for McGee

Rondo is already under contract with the Pelicans. He can’t be a free agent target

@BallinWithBryan: Carlisle said that Nerlens Noel went to Cleveland yesterday to have his cast removed from his left thumb. He has since returned back to Dallas.

Back to the bench or back to some playing time to show teams he's healthy prior to the deadline? What do we think?

@espn_macmahon: Rick Carlisle on Nerlens Noel's return from thumb surgery: "I said something to you guys about the first week of February was a possibility. I don't know if that's the case. I think it's going to be later than that." So Noel likely won't be back before trade deadline.

So basically Nerlens (and his agent) realize he’s fallen out of favor with RC and opt for elective surgery to correct a long-term issue in season to explain away the dip in minutes and production when shopping for a team this offseason.

@TheSteinLine: The Mavericks have no current plans to buy out big man Nerlens Noel, according to league sources. To the contrary, Dallas is hopeful it can get Noel back on the floor after the All-Star break and make another run at establishing a role for him.

I'll believe it when I see it, but I would love to see him get 30mpg just to see what would actually happen. I still think he can be a starting center.
