You know what keeps Dirk Nowitzki as good as he is at 32? Precision.
Money.

I think Dirk doesn't have to worry about money anymore ... his incentive is to win it all.

No No... you misread my post. I was pointing out that the quote was "money".

Don't care about the reg season MVP. He's already got one, he needs the better mvp award.

Dime Magazine: Top 5 go to guys... Dirk is #4

1. Kobe
2. Paul Peirce
3, Lebron
4. His Dirkness
5. Carmelo

4. DIRK NOWITZKI, Mavericks
One of the biggest NBA misconceptions of the last decade is that Dirk isn’t clutch. In a League where coaches come and go, rosters turn over every summer, and the power balance shifts constantly, you can’t have a franchise win 50-plus games every single year for 10 straight years — and going on an 11th — unless its superstar is clutch.

Ask anybody who’s had to guard Dirk, and a few words become thematic: “Unblockable” and “tough shots.” It’s not just that Dirk can shoot, it’s that his size as a 7-footer and ability to keep his same form at different angles allows him to drill those jumpers over anybody. His pull-up jumper from the foul line area is as unstoppable as any go-to move by any player in the League, and he hits it regularly in clutch moments.
Last season, Dirk was third in the NBA in clutch time scoring, where he shot 98 percent from the line and 66 percent beyond the arc. His 5.3 assists per 48 minutes of clutch time also placed him higher than noted scorers like Kobe Bryant, Carmelo Anthony, Joe Johnson, Monta Ellis and Kevin Durant.
This season, Dirk has already beaten the Celtics with a fallaway game-winner on Nov. 8, scored eight in the fourth quarter to lead Dallas to a win over the Hornets on Nov. 15, and his free throws down the stretched helped seal a win over the Hawks on Nov. 20. At 32 years old he’s putting together another MVP-caliber campaign, and maybe he’ll even dead the notion once and for all that he’s not clutch.

What a game again. .643 Season TS%. Never seen anything like that. His missed shots are thinking about going in for seconds, and his makes are rarely touching any metal. I really think he's the best all-around jumpshooter in NBA history. Just an absolute pleasure to watch him play.

Fish and Dugat:

Quote:
Nowitzki has shot above 80 percent from the floor (minimum 10 field-goal attempts) 10 times in his career.

Four of those games have come this season.

A comment from a eastern conference scout from Marc Stein's weekend dime.

"As for Dirk, when I watched him, his shots hit nothing. He doesn't even hit the rim now. He's always been able to shoot, but he must get better with age. I don't think he's going to lose it any time soon. He's not like one of those athletes who has to kind of learn how to make shots as he gets older. I don't see why he'd have much of a dropoff over the next few years."

Not clutch at all. Especially when Matt Harpring was saying Deron was "itching" to get back into the game while resting on the bench.

If you give father time the benefit of the doubt, but still have Dirk putting up respectable numbers over the next 4 years: it's not unrealistic for him to be in the top ten all-time.

6th is probably the highest realistically possible position for him, unless we keep feeding to him at 42.

I could easily see Dirk being effective in this league until he's 40, a la Reggie Miller.

i think catching Moses Malone is probably the optimum, this would be alltime #7 since Kobe will pass him Malone and Shaq.

unless he is winning championships...Dirk is not playing that long.

Top 10 would be beautiful.

I actually think he could be matt bonner in his late 40s/early 50s. That wont happen obviously but he will always be tall and he will always be able to shoot.

The way i see his career going is him being a 2000 pts a year guy for this year and 3 more. then hopefully being a 1600 pts a year guy for 2 years after that and then likely retiring. That would put him around 32000 career pts and retiring at nearly 38.

I would be also fine if he win the ring this year and then ask the Mavs to void his contract to make a lot of little swedish Dirks

Dirk is awesome, but sorry...top 10 all-time is just not realistic. This debate can be analyzed to death, but I just don't believe Dirk will be on the same level as Larry Bird, despite the fact he will pass him on the scoring list in a couple weeks. I would take a prime Bird over prime Dirk eight days out of the week.

But anyway, enough of my jabbering. Dirk for MVP!

If Dirk keep his 25PPG this season he has ~23160 after this season.

#10 will be Oscar Robertson with 26710, so 3550 points missing. That means he need an average of 14.4 PPG in his last three season of his actual contract

He is playing at MVP level this season, do you really think he will fall off a cliff within the next 3 years that he cant average 14.4PPG? Hell, he can average that with just standing at the threepoint line...

I would have loved to have seen Dirk playing in the 80's... His numbers would have been ridiculous.

I can remember saying something 5-10 years ago on this forum about thinking that Dirk would retire with closer to 35,000 points than 20,000 points. It's looking pretty good barring a major injury.
