4th pick would guarantee Bamba, Bagley, or Porter. That would be sweeeet.

I'm really intrigued with Porter. I think if he checks out medically I might roll the dice. His game would fit in well here.

If he checks out medically I can't say no to the guy I thought was going to be the #1 pick. And honestly I didn't think it would be debatable that he would be #1 pre injury.

let's say we get the #1 pick - who do you guys want? Ayton? Doncic? Porter? i'd love a scenario where we trade back a pick or 2 and still get the guy we want plus pick up an extra 1st round pick this year or next.

If Porter is available at 4 or 5 I think you have to do it.
Outside of that, I take Bamba or Mikal

Not if Bagley is available. I can see taking him over Bamba or Mikal though.
I have seen a few mocks that think Doncic might fall to 5. If he and Porter are available, then that would be a tough choice.
As much as I love his talent, I'm still worried about Doncic's cement legs. If he gets injured, then that will just add insult to injury to an already slow player.
I think I take Porter over him despite his injury concerns.

I'd hope we take Ayton if we are #1. The league is trending more big men like this guy, not less. Too dominant to pass.
But, after that. I am flip flopping so much. I'd honestly be happy with anyone in the top 7...
The main player I am uncomfortable about is Porter. Just uneasy about it considering the declines of Parsons and Wes after injury. Besides getting DSJ at 9, I just don't think the Mavs are lucky enough these days for Porter to turn out to be A OK and worth a pick over everyone else in the top 7.

Obviously our med staff would need to check out Porter, but if they clear him I'd draft him. His injury is not related to Parsons or Wes' in any way. Parsons just has shit knees and didn't seem to want to put in the work. He cares more about his brand. I think Wes has done a pretty good job coming back from his achilles injury. He just happened to sign a bigger contract than he was worth and was asked to do more because this team lacked talent. When asked to be a 3 & D guy like he he did this year he played pretty well IMO. He is still an above average shooter when its in a catch and shoot situation and it probably the best on ball defender we have.

Most-to-least likely to make enough impact to get us back into contention alongside Dennis... Wouldn't be surprised to see this order in 5 years when everyone is re-drafting the 2018 class.

Im not in love with Bagley but I was guessing he would be taken in the top 3, but yeah I think Doncic would be a tough choice. That most recent video convinced me he was a baller. But if Porter is cleared...

If Porter is cleared and has no perceivable injury issues according to the staff then I can't pass on him. And I'm a huuuuuge Doncic fan. If there is any concern at all Doncic at 5 would be amazing to me.

Although unlikely, I would be excited at the idea of Doncic with DSJ. We have been beaten to death with small ball at the SG position and guard positions in general. I think we are all tired of seeing it, but understand that the effective ball movement and low turnovers is a priority to Rick, which is why we have seen JJB and Yogi mixed in at the 2 so much. If Doncic were somehow available when we pick, I would feel happy with the prospect of two good passers and creators as well as fairly high IQ at such a young age in the backcourt. I'm not concerned about where that puts Wes, as long as it isn't taking lots of minutes.

If no team jumps in the Top-3:
Suns - Ayton (Arizona and fit)
Grizzlies - Doncic (fit, win now, pretty much what they wanted Parsons to be)
Hawks - Jackson (PG, SF and PF are set with Schröder/Prince/Collins)

Fingers crossed for Bagley. The more I go back and watch Duke games the more I’m convinced the kid is the real deal. He operates in that same free throw line extended area that Dirk dominated for ages. Bagley obviously can’t shoot like Dirk, but I see him succeeding in every facet of offensive ball for a 4. He can shoot (37% from 3 for the season) and has a smooth, consistent stroke suggesting his midrange/ FT game will get there. He can post up and led all ACC freshman in FG%. He can handle, set picks and go to the rim or pop. He’s relentless on the offensive boards and has a knack for coming up with the ball. Finally, he’s obviously naturally talented. He was the number 1 guy in his class for years, and has been playing the highest level of bball available to him his entire life. Like DSJ, the offensive potential outweighs any concern on defense. If we have the number one pick, I take him at number one.

Call me the Porter Jr. Hater
Even before the injury, he has C level handling with very little explosiveness. Can he shoot? It appears so. But we don't know if he can shoot against any semblance of defense or length. College would of given us a decent glimpse.
At 7, I would be thrilled. But inside the top 5? Probably not.
My list heading into this thing...
1. Luka Doncic - He plays like a winner.
2. Deandre Ayton - Consider this 1b. Probably the best roster fit with the highest potential.
3. Marvin Bagley - This is the guy we MAY have a chance at if the Lottery Gods are in our favor. Chris Bosh 2.0 who will average 20/10 for many years. Great fit next to DSJ.
4. JJJ - His upside and stretch 4 potential are too much to pass up. Not as big of a fan as others, but I would be happy to have him.
5. Mikal Bridges - Instant impact who brings tenacity. Want to win? Bring in a winner. I am not sure I see the Kawai comparisons, but that would be impossible to see at this point.
6. Mo Bamba - Huge defensive talent with questionable motor (imo). I see him averaging 12-15 points a game, 10+ rebounds, 3+ blocks if he is healthy. I managed to catch most of his games. I was constantly questioning how much he wants it. I know we are talking about a major jump for him, but he displayed zero intangibles from my couch.
7. Michael Porter Jr. - Not sure if I prefer him or Mo Bamba. It would depend on how encouraging the physical exams are.
8. Zhaire Smith - Probably a reach here, but love his game.

I really like the Zhaire Smith shoutout there, but we're probably not picking any worse than #7... Would probably pick him over Wendell Carter or Miles Bridges though.

Wait.. we are essentially 4th too. R now. If we and the magic all lose out and tie for 4th.. is it decided by a coin flip?
Again.. the last 3 loseable games that we won by actually trying is costing us.

@Rrlewis2: The Mavs can secure top 5 lottery odds with a loss at Philadelphia on Sunday.

currently tankathon has us in 4th right now and taking Bagley (over Porter and Bamba), Kurucs, and Trier. i know nothing about Kurucs... skinny and raw?
depending on how things shake out tankathon also has us taking Mo Wagner on a few mocks.
Nbadraftnet has Doncic falling to us at 5 followed by Bates-Diop in the 2nd and they don't have it updated that we have the other pick from Portland (Shake Milton available based on their mock). I'd be very happy with this draft with the the option of taking JJJ instead of Doncic if anyone felt that was the right thing.

If we could land Bates-Diop in the second round then we would win the draft... Too bad NBADraft.net is garbage and ridiculously out of date -- they haven't updated since March and have Shake Milton at #56 when he's probably going top-20 (at least first round).
On the other hand, Tankathon pretty much nailed the lottery last year -- they seem to have their finger on the pulse and update accordingly. I absolutely love the idea of getting Wagner and Trier in the second round. Don't know anything about Kurucs, but I'm sure he's on Donnie's radar, which is why Tankathon has the Mavs so high on him.

Philly could have their seed in the bag the last game and maybe rest their guys.
We really need Memphis to win so the Suns have the #1 in the bag against us...

The scary part is that Philly could conceivably pick Mikal Bridges knowing how dumb the Knicks are...

Memphis beat Detroit, so Phoenix has secured the worst record. Let's hope they end the season with a W.

Shake milton would be fantastic 2nd rnd pick. Maybe he slips like semi did last year when I thought he would go in top 20-25

Silver really can't do anything since they already changed the rules. And the fact that Hinkie actually did it the right way shows the flaws of the league and the lottery.
What else are crappy teams supposed to do? Relying on free agency is a lesson in futility shown by the Mavs.
