I don't feel as bad about our first rounder going to OKC knowing that they got a bonehead Perkins replacement.

24th pick (Napier) for 26th and a lousy second-rounder

Heat with no assets and no cap room. Napier may be the only chance they have to improve.

More IMO thoughts....
McDermott is next in the line of great college shooters who don't cut it in the pros. Bulls are def the right team for him to mask him shortcomings, but I still don't think he pans out.
Jazz with two nice picks in Exum and Hood.
Much like the TrailBlazers last year who selected CJ Mcollum (sp?) despite having Dame Lillard, the Hornets pick up Shabazz Napier despite having Kemba Walker. I like Shabazz's game but he seems a bit redundant, much like Walker he needs the ball to be effective.

Spoke too soon... didn't see that trade go down.
Shabazz is perfect for the Heat. Too bad for them DWade opted into the ridiculous contract.
Charlotte takes the local guy and fills a need with Hairston. Nice pick.

Maurice Hairston at the end of the first.
What are the odds that Hairston gets drafted from the D-League and gets sent back there by the Hornets.

Now it gets a little more exciting for Mavs fans. Hopefully we can steal a pick.

Hairston went to the Hornets for Shabazz.

Spurs draft the next finals MVP with a trash pick.
Amazing how few people booed Silver. Stern was HATED. HATED!

Thunder reach for Josh Huestis IMO. Tough kid, but tweener who doesn't quite have the lateral speed to be the defensive force people are projecting him to be. He's more Ike Diogu than Ron Artest. If the Thunder wanted a defensive specialist I would've gone KJ McDaniels.

Seems some folks are pretty high on that Anderson guy. Would fit the Spurs to get enormous value out of a 30th pick.

Anderson is a skilled, skilled player. He reminds me of Jason Kidd with his vision - it's that good. He makes passes that I rarely see college players attempt. I don't know if he has the athleticism to cut it, but he def ended up on the right team. Pop will love him.

I doubt we'll do anything tonight because we need every single bit of cap space for the dream of Melo or LeBron. Draft and Mavs is no love story.

THEN LETS GET SOMEBODY!!!!!
Jokes aside, I hate that I have no effing clue when it comes to these prospects, because reading twitter creates that unpleasant perception that we're missing opportunities left and right. Somebody always wonders how this or that player could fall so far down, finds someone intriguing or smells great potential given the right situation.

Good thing I didnt buy tickets to Vegas for summer league this year.

Too bad we had to give up the 34th pick in the TC trade...Early would have been a great cheap addition to our roster.

Watching them during the tourney, I really liked Early. Thought he could contribute off the bench right away. Lot of guys in the second round for the first time in years. Too bad Dallas gives zero F's about the draft.

Mavs just picked up CJ Fair who went undrafted last night for the summer league team. I'm pretty excited with this... I was hoping the Mavs would draft this guy with one of our 2nd rounders before the Tyson trade. But the guy can really play. He was one of the leaders on a great Syracuse team this season, first team all ACC, put up 16ppg 6rpg. Hopefully he puts in work during the summer and has a chance to make the team.

I'm getting disappointed year after year as well, but you gotta say that there was noticeably less action all around even in the second round. Teams hold on to their picks nowadays and even if you can grab some with cash like the Knicks and Nets, there have to be guys left you like.
Overall 44,46, 59 and 60 went out for cash, but Nets purchased three of them and with their salary cap situation the next two years, it might have been more of a necessity because the draft is one of their limited ways to actually get players on the roster.

The upside of a deep draft is that you can probably find diamonds in the rough that go undrafted... He was pegged by some to go in the middle of the second round, so it's almost like we never gave away pick #51.
I found this little blurb written about him before the Tyson trade:
Quote:
Dallas might be the best option. Vince Carter and Shawn Marion are in the twilight of their careers but aren't quite done yet. Bring in Fair, see what you have and maybe his skill set fits in well with the Mavs' offensive game plan. It makes a lot of sense and I don't want to jinx it any more than I have. (One last note - Dallas has two second round picks.)

I like Fair and he reminds me a LOT of Marquis Daniels-- lanky and not terribly quick, but just smooth and smarter than people think.
also wanna see Mavs bring in Melvin Ejim. Dude is a beast. May not transfer his effectiveness over the NBA, but I love his skillset and drive-- rebounds hard, moves well without the ball, some crafty post moves. He's like a poor man's Griffin with a little Fortson/Blair in him.

Ah yes we got Fair. Main guy I'm going to be looking at during summer league. See if he can earn himself into the roster. Possibly replace the spot Ellington had.

I think Fair definitely makes the roster. He has the sort of game that translates well to summer league. He's always moving, cutting, and driving on offense.

DALLAS MAVERICKS | GRADE: C-
Round 1: None
Round 2: None
Analysis: The Mavs traded this year's first-rounder to the Thunder. They traded last year's first, Shane Larkin, in a deal that netted themTyson Chandler and Raymond Felton. The Mavs haven't shown much interest in developing young players.
They want to win one more title for Dirk Nowitzki and are trying to put together a roster that could lure LeBron James or Carmelo Anthony to Dallas. I doubt they get either guy, and there's the rub -- the Mavs keep sacrificing the future hoping to hit a free-agent home run. Instead, they hit singles and an occasional double. I'm not sure the guy they would've drafted at 34 was really going to make a difference, but their disregard for the draft may come back to haunt them someday.
