Dirk wants to win in Dallas but if he is really smart he will see what they do this summer. He can get a deal set up with Dallas to allow them to bring in another double team requiring player but not sign until it is entirely set. Dirk presence in Dallas has allowed the team to carry to many lazy a*ss's and aging players and letting the front office think they were still contenders with this roster. Then they added a methodical coach who still thinks it's 1970 and runs the team accordingly. If they don't make a major deal this summer Dirk could and should leave with a clear conscience. I've been a Mav fan since the Aquire, Blackman era but even I have been sick of the stupidity that has been the Mavs recently.

This was a business decision for Dirk. With the new CBA his extension would depend on the max dollars of the new CBA, then again the new CBA can just grandfather in his deal. Nevertheless this gives him max protection on his contract, he signs a new max deal, the contract locks in the figures, the trade clause is also protection against being sent to the Clippers. Dirk will reup the max at 4 years.

Evan Eschmeyer. 6 years (!), 20 million.

On one hand, Dallas can do something unique.. on the other hand, it's all about what the player wants, right?

Dallas does have something unique to offer from a SnT perspective as a buyer but it's a risky game because it's mostly on the player. Say Bron/Bosh/Wade/JJ/Amare/Boozer/etc all join the likes of NY, NJ, Chicago and Miami and Dirk is basically looking to rejoin the same team vs sign SnT w/LA for Gasol. What does Dallas do at that point?

I think the Damp contract may be overrated as far as bringing in superstars go. That's my point.

It'll be about the player - not what's coming back.

Yeah, you need a high dollar contract for a legal S&T, but a low talent S&T so the player will agree with it.

In general, yes. But given Dirk's so good, not necessarily. Gasol is one example where you would get high-talent coming back but Dirk and the Lakers would still be down with it. Simmons is now touting Phoenix.

You don't think Steve and Dirk may have a talk this offseason? Amare for Dirk? A WCF team adds Dirk for Amare would be a very strong contender and Dirk's age fits Phoenix's window. Portland for Aldridge and change. It doesn't have to be low end talent. As long as Dirk is going to a contender and not being traded for one of its very tiptop parts, it will work out for that team and Dirk's favor. It just has to be SOMETHING desirable for Dallas.. unless they wanna lose him for nothing.

It's the same game as LeBron really.

It does comfort me knowing we are talking about a 1% chance (trusting on Dirk's loyalty and Cuban's activity) because the more you examine it, there are lots of places Dirk could go and find a great fit for himself.

Dirk is the only reason why a star player will concider coming to Big D.
If Dirk goes..mhhh I dont even want to think about it!

It really is. It's basically just an early expiring. It's a nice size contract, but still. That and Roddy are really Dallas' only nice trading pieces for a SnT. Butler is alright, but that's about it. Besides Roddy, there are only two (IIRC) players in their 20s. Therefore, no young prospects to trade.

But the only reason why they went to Dallas was because of Dirk. Dirk could walk and go play with Wade in Miami...no sign and trade needed. Just an example.

Do we have a 2nd round pick in this years draft? Or did we trade that away too for Jason Kidd?

We gave ours to NJ, in the Kidd trade, but picked up OK City's in the Roddy trade. We also owed Indy a 2010 2nd, but hold the option of making it 2011.

I'm confident next year's team will feature the most talented Mavericks roster ever assembled. Just how talented depends on who we get, but I think Cuban understands it's all in at this point.

Yeah, FFL said it gooder than me - me not very articulate.

On my fourth try I got: Lebron and Dirk to the Mavs, Amare to the Wizards, Wade to the Knicks, Bosh to the Rockets, Boozer to the Bulls, JJ to the Heat.

I'd be very happy with a 20% chance. My feeling is he'll be going to NY with Bosh, though.

Cracks me up. I mean everything could be plausible other than Lee and Dirk. Nets?!?! Seriously? Lets not take into account that they suck and Dirk would never leave home unless he wanted a ring before retirement.
