Morris has played well this year. Looks just as good if not better than anything Maxi has done.
Yeah, we need to package Tim and Maxi for a defender of some sort. Living on borrow time with Tim's shooting.

Can't help but think Green is being shopped now.
If he gets demoted out of the rotation, we have a few guys like Lawson and Dennis who can fill the same role.

Always living on the edge with Tims shooting. It can go over the cliff at any moment.

Does tonight's game even warrant a GDT?
No Kyrie
No Lively
No Green
No Kleber
Probably no Holmes

They should just mercy rule this one. It was decided an hour before the game when injuries were reported
Still, Kidd is giving Luka 40min and trying to injure him

If Lively is out for even a couple of more games, Nico is going to have to feel the pressure

Now get Luka two assists so he can get his triple double and sit him.
All we need is more injuries. Playing Luka 45 min in this guaranteed loss is beyond stupid

Doubling Jokic and running a depleted roster ragged scrambling all over the floor was always going to happen.

Not even watching the team with Lively out. I've said a million times that one guy can't play defense for the whole team, and yet here we are.
It's the coach's job to get the team to play defense. He has failed miserably at that this season.

This team isnt remotely competitive with Lively and/or Kyrie out.
Luka had 28 at half on great efficiency and they were down 9.
Defense is non existent as usual

The annoying part is the west is wide open.
But we seriously and absolutely have no chance without fixing the defense. It's so, so terrible.

Once again, we have a lot of scrubs. We just trade and interchange them with other teams. Yet, Powell remains to torment our dreams of competing in the West.

Powell is indeed representative of everything wrong with the team. He is just a goddamn curse that nearly ended Irving's season for good. Get him off the team already!!

Nico has to package Green/Hardy + whatever to get some defense in here. You fix the defense, we suddenly dont need to be top 3 offense to win games.
I think with warts you have to keep THJ because he can keep games afloat even tho he burns us at times. Unless he's being traded for a bonafide defense impacting player.

Yea and fwiw, This was one of those lazy Luka defensive efforts. He had been playing some inspired defense but in our recent 2 losses, he has looked like he knows exactly what the current available roster is capable of.

Thank you. All of this.
Imagine if he snapped Kyries leg when he went kamikaze for a rebound he was never going to get. If we just cut him outright and got nothing, i would be happy. I'd roll the dice with GB3 and not care.

the problem is that Kidd isn't showcasing anyone.
I get that Green might have some value, but he's been either injured or misused all season where his trade value might be negative other than his salary ballast.
Plus this makes it harder

Which is why extending him was soooo stupid. And I'm betting a box of crack jacks that Kidd was the one that pushed for it.
Mavs don't know how to let these people go. Josh Green had 3 good weeks of an entire career so far. I just don't get it.
The only justification to that extension was that we need defense, but Green hasn't lived up to that this season.

And the guy they should be showcasing is Jaden Hardy, but the kid never had a chance to be any sort of real contributor this season. So why didn't you trade him this summer when his value was high?
There are times when I think Nico is really good at his job, and then I'm like "wtf" the other half of the time.

We have been trying to unfvck bad decisions since Nash. Tyson, Messley, Brunson... Powell. Fishtailing all over the road teying to avoid past mistakes.
Nico should already have shored up the back up Center spot. He has made some good moves but we still have a smaller version of the same problem except we have inched closer to contention and its stilla very relevant peoblem. If we just got a versitile big who could play 4/5, rebound and defend it would be a big help. D fn p is and never will be that guy.

Kyrie and Lively, Green and Maxi still out for clippers tomorrow.
Easy loss. Clippers figured it out lately

Green has an elbow bruise? I just can't believe that's the real reason he is out. What a weird injury. I seriously have never heard of another play with a similar injury, but maybe I'm not paying attention.

Backup center should have been one of the easiest positions to fill in the offseason and Nico re-signed one of the worst.
Knowing the west has a plethora of decent centers that Powell would get brutalized by, and not knowing Lively would vastly overachieve, it seemed reckless and irresponsible to not have some type of decent backup plan at center.
And it didn't make any sense to me to let McGee go and re-sign Powell to basically take his spot.
We are damn lucky Lively developed into a legit starting center so quickly otherwise Powell would have been our starter again.
Nico has made some decent moves, but re-signing Powell is a major head-scratcher.

Honest question: what better center did you expect at 4mill?

I think the theme doesn?t just involve FA signings. Its no secret that Lively REALLY masked the center problem by being as good as he is already. So maybe somehow Nico knew this and deserves credit for insight. Maybe. We could have moved some pieces to solidify defense and or at least rebounding at either big position. Im glad they didnt make a move that would have put Lively on the bench because he is good and wayyy ahead of pace.
A few guys could have been considered on the cheap, though.
Tristan Thompson
Mo Bamba
Cody Zeller
Thomas Bryant
Alex Len
Zeke Nnaji (Long shot)
Id rather have any of those guys, idk if thats a true indicator or just my disdain for DP on the roster.

It wasn't the price as much as the situation.
Maybe Nico knew Lively was going to be good, but I doubt he knew he would be this good and have this much of an impact.
That being said, we started the season with one 7 footer on the team who was a rookie, a somewhat injured and undersized Maxi, an undersized and very questionable Holmes, and Powell who was known to get brutalized by nearly every true center in the league.
This team is in serious need of a backup center and that should have been addressed in the offseason...especially if someone as stupid as me could have seen this coming.
In fact, I think it was somewhat irresponsible to not go after a starter quality center or at least border quality starting center to start the season. I'll give Nico credit for possibly seeing a starter in Lively, but the fact that Powell was the backup plan all along was irresponsible and reckless no matter how you look at it because it was obvious from the start that the team would have to end up relying heavily on Powell one way or another at some point.
