The one way you HAVE to look at this is you've got to try with everything we've got to get Diop via SnT. By doing that we'll still have the full MLE and we throw it at high tier SG.

What was the story on the last offseason? Did the Clips offer us up for Maggette for Terry?

This is correct. He didn't just turn it down. He nixed it after the Clips GM had agreed to it.

Yeah Clippers owner nixed that deal, can't blame it on the Mavs F.O. that time.

Honestly, if they can pair Davis with Brand, then the owner maybe knew what he was doing. Wouldn't you say?

So is the Maggette thing being reported as officially verbally agreed upon? The yahoo article just said the Spurs are the frontrunners.

No agreement yet. Just pure speculation. But even then, aren't you worried out of your mind right now?

At this point it's just a rumor - people are overreacting because nobody wants teams like the Spurs, Lakers or Celtics to get any better...

I think there is merit to it b/c, like us, Maggette has been a target for them for quite a while. They're looking to land a qualty SG. Their main idea was JR Smith, but the bottom fell out for Maggette, it will work for him and work for them. I can see a 2-3 year deal for the MLE.

Ok espn just said as mentioned earlier that the Celtics have offered both Posey and Maggette the MLE. No mention of the Spurs.
We have to realize we are completely out of this thing, Maggette apparently has offers from the last two NBA champions on the table. Why on earth would he just decide to choose us over them when we can't offer him anymore than they can? Shows over guys nothing to see here.
Only thing undecided is if he'll be making a Western Conf rival stronger or an Eastern Conf team stronger.

It's just speculation at this point but it makes a lot of sense. The only teams that can offer more than the MLE is Golden State, Memphis, and Philly. Philly is going after Josh Smith. SA can offer him a starting job too.
I'll wait for a confirmation but if he's serious about winning a championship he could do a lot worse than SA.

How earlier did ESPN mention Boston, b/c apparently that's been going for a few hours. They might be a little behind on the stories.

Because 1) Dallas has better looking women than Boston, and 2) Dallas isn't a complete sh*thole like San Antonio?
That's what we need to hope for.

5-10 minutes ago. (television not website) They said it was breaking news.
True they could just be behind, but they just said it.

I don't want Maggette going to SA, but going to Boston isn't that much better. Those guys are good enough. Sheesh.

1) 5.5 goes a lot further in Dallas than in Boston, not sure the exact numbers but I would say it's equivalent to having a 8 million dollar contract in Boston.
2) Maggette would be a star here in Dallas, most likely the second option behind Dirk and he would play with one of the best, if not the best set up man in Jason Kidd. (SA will always have their big 3 and Boston apparently has their 3 as well)
I could see him averaging a legitimate 20 points for Dallas, I couldn't say the same for Boston or San Antonio... maybe Boston, but then I would go back to my money reason.

On SpursTalk, they were saying they would probably look for Maggette to get them 20 a night. If he's starting, he's the 2nd option behind Duncan.

They mentioned on espn just like the net said that the Celtics would only be able to sign one (Posey or Maggette) I'm sure they'll end up keeping Posey and Spurs get Maggette.
...and we get Gerald Green.

Honestly, though, wouldn't Maggette take touches away from Manu, who I consider to be about 3x a better basketball player? To me, Manu is the scariest player on the entire team.

Yeah, but Manu is still able to come off the bench for them.
It just makes them even stronger.

Maggette would start for them, but Manu would still play 35 minutes a game. He would still be ahead of Corey in terms of options. Is Maggette a good weakside shooter? Because that's what SA is going to turn him into IMO. Come to Dallas man, you would shine here. Seriously.

When you add a 20 pt a game player to a 4 time nba championship team it just spells trouble for everyone else.
Stern should step in and stop this! (since he tries to rig the league whenever he can anyway)

I think it would definitely make the Spurs better, but somethings gotta give. Either Maggette won't be the #2 option, and he won't be shooting 15 FT's a game like he did in LA, or Manu is going to give up touches.
Like I said, I think it's a net gain for the Spurs, but they will have to make a sacrifice somewhere.

And not involving Duncan is only going to hurt him. Sure Duncan has probably lost a step, but without him creating double teams and mismatches for others on the floor, the Spurs aren't going to win the whole thing.

I think if they can use Maggette during the regular season and pace Manu at the same time...they'll be all for it. They want Manu healthy and firing on all cylinders at the playoffs b/c, as mentioned, he is incredibly vital to their team.

and then what happens once the playoffs roll around? bench Maggette and put in Bowen for his defense and Manu for his offense?
I never really believed in coasting until the playoffs. Winning 67 games and losing in the first round has gotten people's thinking all out of whack =]
I say go hard in games 1 through 82.

Ginobli has been wearing down during the regular season and you know the Spurs are not going far into the post season without him. Maggette will take a lot of the pressure off of him in the minutes and scoring department.
Maggette is probably as good about getting to the basket or ft line as Parker and Ginboli is. He's everything the Spurs need.

I don't see it as coasting, it's managing minutes. Pop always wants to keep his guys fresh for the playoffs, this would help the cause. If Maggette is tearing it up in the playoffs and Manu isn't needed, more power to them. But Manu can still be the bread and butter when it comes down to it. If it's off the bench or starting, I don't think they'll care.

With the West being the way it is though, managing minutes may be the difference between having home court or not, you know what I mean?
