Some interesting on/off court and production numbers for the Mavs so far. Shows just how shitty this team is outside of Barnes. When he's off the floor we are probably the worst team in the NBA. When Dirk is on the floor we are probably the worst team at your local YMCA tournament bracket. It also shows, quite surprisingly, that Wes Matthews has the least amount of impact of all the starters from an on/off court perspective.

-Edit-
When I say all of the starters, I mean the starting unit we have used while Dirk has been out. So Dwil, Wes, DFS, Barnes, Bogut/Mejri
I do think this seasons team does have much better talent potential. It's just how the lineups and strategies being coached have been brutal. Like having Powell play center constantly. Too much small ball.

Well we have 4 centers. 1 is Hammonds who isn't ready. 1 is Bogut who has been injured. And 1 is Mejri who throws tantrums when he gets called for fouls. You can add Dirk to the list and that's self explanatory about how bad that is defensively. Nothing we can do about it atm.

And Dirk from what I've seen can't play the 4 defensively when it's a small lineup from the opposing team. Powell can't play the 4 on offense because all he can do is roll to the rim.

It does matter though. Expiring contracts have value to teams. They are also vets who can help teams make a playoff push which also has value. Getting nothing for them and missing the playoffs would have to be described as a failure.

The only logical reason to keep Bogut, DWill and Harris would be to have cap space at the end of the season but even that doesn't make any sense at this point if we can use their expiring values to pick up some assets for the future. All 3 should have some value to contenders as well.

It is highly unlikely that we'll have any chance at any legit max-deal caliber FAs so why not dump those 3 and any other vets to pick up some youth and/or draft picks.

Exactly. Bottom line is we are not attracting "max deal caliber" players this summer. These vets should be used to obtain youth/picks.

Best case scenario for the Mavs would be to find our way into the top 15 twice in this draft. If not that then it would be to walk away with Fultz. The more I watch him play the more I am convinced.

That should be the main focus and primary strategy from now until the draft.
I don't advocate a tank strategy by any means but we should develop current youth (win or lose) the rest of this season and the best way to do that is rest Dirk and move any other player 30 and over for anything that could help us long-term.
