That post game meetup between the GOAT and the one to likely equal him was awesome.

I just watched all the coverage on TNT and Sportscenter. They all raved about Luka being the best player on the court, which is fine. But no one talked about the defense. The numbers Luka put up are pretty normal. No one is shocked to see him score 27 in a half. The number they should have been talking about is the 27 they held the Sun to in a half.
The Suns starters couldn't hit a shot because they were hardly ever open. And if they were open, they rushed the shot because they knew the Mavs swarming D was coming. None of that makes great highlights for TV. But it is why the Mavs won, and its what Steve Kerr is game planning against right now. Amazing that not a single pundit made that point on TV.

Honestly, that win was one of the most rewarding sports moments of my life. Up there with 2011. No one believed we could do it down 2-0 (myself included). I will never doubt this team again. I truly believe we’re winning a championship!

Kinda makes you long for the early mid-2000s when you couldn't turn on ESPN or TNT without hearing those talking heads say, "defense wins championships" like a billion fucking times XD

In every NBA game I've seen broadcasted by a national network over the last 15-20 years, they always interview the visiting coach at the start of the 2nd quarter and the home coach at the start of the 4th.
With the score of 92-50 after three, TNT didn't even bother.

Truly an amazing game. There are simply no words to describe it.
I just looked at the Box Score and the +/- just jumped out at me. Not really surprising given the lopsided score, but still..
Mavs
DFS +37
Bullock + 44
Powell +22
Brunson + 24
Luka + 37
Dinwiddie + 29
Suns
Crowder -37
Bridges -40
Ayton -23
Paul -39
Booker - 41

Luka outscored Booker in the series (who was 4th in MVP voting for his scoring)
Luka outrebounded Ayton in the series
Luka out assisted Paul in the series
Luka had more steals than Bridges

I don’t think she really pays a lot of attention to the Mavs anymore. Every once in awhile KG pops on.

I posted this in the series thread, but I'll post it here too. I'm telling you, I've never seen anything like this.

So I finally get home and watch the full replay. I'm just utterly shocked. I've never seen anything like this in basketball. I honestly think this is an unprecedented moment in NBA history.
First off, holy shit, I'm so effing in love with our Mavs. All the credit in the world to them for shocking the world, pulling off one of the bigger upsets in recent playoff memory, and getting to the WCF for the first time since 2011. Amazing, amazing accomplishment, and I want to sing their praises to the moon.
I gotta be honest though, I'm more just utterly stunned at the Suns' utter collapse. And this is the thing I think is unprecedented in NBA history. I've never seen anything like it, and I'm just dumbfounded- in the best possible way of course being a Mavs fan.
Upsets happen. We've seen #1 seeds lose plenty of times. We Mavs fans have some terrible memories of our own. But Jesus H Christ, I don't think we've ever seen a 60+ win team that was overwhelmingly favored to win the championship get pushed to a game 7 by the underdog team, and just not even show up. To just get utterly annihilated and humiliated on their home court. Seriously, has it ever happened before?
The closest comparison I can think of is Nuggets-Clippers in the bubble. Clippers were up 3-1, blew the lead and lost game 7 by 15. But good lord, even that wasn't THIS bad. This was the most pathetic, shameful performance by a title favorite I've ever seen by a huge margin. I just can't get over it.
Again, not to take anything away from our beloved Mavs, because I think the Mavs just flat out broke the Suns mentally. They got into the Suns' heads and destroyed their confidence. I still think the Suns were the more talented team by a fair margin. But one of the beautiful things about basketball is that it's not just about talent. The Mavs were just tougher, hungrier, and smarter.
If I was the Suns' GM, I'd really be at a loss now about where to from here. CP3 is done as far as I'm concerned. He might still be able to play at a reasonable level in the regular season, but as a guy you can trust in the playoffs? Yeah no thanks. I don't think it's gonna get better from age 37 to age 38. Ayton is a good player, but good is all, and generally unreliable. Even before this they were unsure if they wanted to pay him. (and to think, they took him when they could have had Luka!!) I can't imagine breaking the bank for him now. Booker is incredibly talented but man after last night I'm never trusting him to lead a team. So that's their vaulted big 3, all of whom utterly humiliated themselves when their playoff lives were on the line. I can't imagine blowing up a 64-win team, but good god, I can't imagine the Suns coming back from this. It's like the 2016 Atlanta Falcons. There's some shit you just don't come back from.
Anyway, enough about the pathetic losers from Phoenix. THE MAVERICKS ARE IN THE WESTERN CONFERENCE FINALS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BRING ON THE WARRIORS!!!!! MFFL!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dinwiddie and Luka are the first pair of teammates to score 30+ since Shaq/Kobe in a game 7

And quite a few people were trashing Dinwiddie and even Luka some games this series.

Another fun stat. 57-27 is the biggest halftime lead in a game 7 EVER.

How satisfying to watch our Mavs and Luka break their whole roster mentally. And to slam the door shut on CP3 getting a ring.
Missed the game and service was shit but a friend text came thru that said Mavs up by 30 lmao.
Been flipping between espn and fs1 to hear everyone eat crow all day.

We're leaving a wreck in our wake
Jazz? Already didn't get along and Snyder was drinking. Now they have to blow it up. Jazz have to trade either Gobert or Mitchell and may trade both and blow it up.
Suns? Stuck in cap hell and Sarver is a cheap bastard. CP is still guaranteed 59million over the next two seasons even as his contributions drop. They're over the cap with or without McGee and Ayton. I can't see them maxing Ayton so this might be the last year we see CP/Booker/Ayton

Talkin’ NBA: “Deandre Ayton is going to get a max contract in the marketplace somewhere… There are a lot of teams lining up to figure out: how can we acquire him?” — @Adrian Wojnarowski on where things stand between Ayton & the Suns “NBA Today” #NBATwitter #ValleyProud – via Twitter _Talkin_NBA
I guess I missed it, but apparently there was some beef between Ayton and Monty Williams during game 7? Monty told Ayton he quit on the team? I can’t imagine they just let an asset like Ayton walk for nothing by not matching, but I understand their hesitation to max him.

It would be very stupid to let him walk for nothing, but as EL noted above, Sarver is a notorious cheapskate, so it might very well happen.

Wow, this was a cool read through. I can't keep up with game day threads usually, and had some people over for this dream of a game.
Lots of old faces feeling the same vibes! Love it
