McLemore would be a nice youth addition but would most likely cost us Anderson and other assets.
No interest in Williams, Hibbert or Budinger.
Not a big Nick Young or Joe Johnson fan but if we pickup more bench scoring then one of our PGs need to go and I could see the Mavs adding someone like Young or Johnson.
Stephenson and Lee are no brainers if bought out.
Stephenson would be my first pick (because of upside) but Kevin Martin would be the most likely imo if bought out.

Stephenson would also be my choice. That LAC scene is pretty crazy. Lance might do well in a more stable place. It would be nice to have a big guard/small forward who can deal with big 2's from other teams and back up Parsons.

Agree....Stephenson/Parsons/Matthews would be a nice rotation at the 2/3 if all parts are functioning optimally (Parsons knee, Matthews achilles, and Stephenson's brain) . Plus Stephenson is more of a two-way player than most of the others mentioned and is athletic. We could use some athleticism and size in our backcourt...especially on the defensive end.

That'd be a decent team. Not great, but we could definitely make it into the playoffs.

I'd consider Felton/McGee/Evans for Gasol and then sign Stevenson after buyout.
Dirk/Gasol/Zaza rotation at 4/5, Parsons/Matthews/Stevenson rotation at 2/3, and DWill/Harris/Barea at PG would be decent going into the POs.

That looks like an excellent best-case scenario for this season, but the price for Gasol is probably much steeper.

Yeah...we'd probably have to give up Anderson or Powell.

I'm a little shocked and disappointed there isn't more activity on this board/thread. This should be one of the most active weeks of the year for ideas, discussions and debates.

What'd I'd love to see happen is Kevin Martin or Joe Johnson get bought out and the Mavs grab one of them to bolster the bench. Don't think we'll make any trades though. But what will help us is if Dwight Howard stays put and he continues to rot in Houston... then our chances of signing him in the summer would increase. Especially with GM Parsons doing what he does. I'd be very happy if we roll into next season with D-Will/Wes/Parsons/Dirk/Dwight and Zaza off the bench.

Dwight. When the debate is experience vs. potential, give me experience every time.... And Howard's worst still tops Whiteside's best.
They're both headcases, and Dwight does have injuries and Father Time working against him, but D12 is the safer bet through he duration of Dirk's career (which, regardless of anyone's opinion, is still a priority to the FO...)
EDIT: although when it comes to $$, I'd want Howard on a much shorter contract than Whiteside -- he probably loses his edge on a 4-year deal.

I like Whiteside as our big man. Did you see what he did to us off the bench?

I did. And I like him too... Just not as much as I like Dwight in the shorter-term.

Who do you feel is more expensive in the off season? Dwight already turned us down once for Houston... I know we have Chandler to try to work his magic, but he seems like too much of a diva for me.
As far as options this trade deadline, I am digging Kevin Martin, and maybe Lance Stephenson. We will definitely need to trade a point guard though. I am tired of barea/felton/harris/d willy playing the 1/2. We need some size to defend. Plus all 3 of those PGs minus D willy are very hit and miss. More times they are luke warm than hot.

Defensively, he's actually a very good rim protector in terms of FG% and next to Drummond, the Pistons have the potential to be one of the stingiest defenses in the league.

Lol. Are you confusing Tobias Harris with someone else? Rim protector? He averages .6 blocks a game. And plays SF/PF. He has a -.4 DBPM for his career. He's an okay slasher (at the 4, nothing special at the 3), but 28% of his shots are threes. And calling him a great (let alone best in the NBA) PnR ballhandler is nothing short of hilarious. (2 assists to 1.6 turnovers a game...)
He does have a diverse offensive skill-set. And he's an above average scorer. Problem is, he's not particularly *great* at any of those things. 46/31/78 shooter.
He's an upgrade on Ersan, absolutely. But eating that kind of contract for a solid offensive tweener who doesn't play D and doesn't stretch the floor well (next to a center who *needs* a floor stretcher), is a meh move to me.

Perhaps there will be bombs closer to the minute and hour, but this seems like a really slow and boring trade deadline so far.

I haven't been too keen on Howard but am beginning to come around because he might actually be a perfect fit.
Didn't he have one of his best years in Orlando when they spread the floor with Lewis, Turk, Nelson, etc...?
Rick's system is similar so he might actually flourish here if he can stay healthy. But I'd hate to start courting him again while Zaza signs with someone else and we are left with nothing in the end...again.

@ZachLowe_NBA: This feels like the dead deadline market dynamics suggested last year would be, but just remember what happened in those final 45 minutes.

Mavs standing pat per Donnie Nelson.
However, plenty of buyout candidates including a somewhat surprising one I think the Mavs should take a look at...
Adrian Wojnarowski @WojVerticalNBA 1m1 minute ago
The Portland Trail Blazers will likely waive Anderson Varejao, league sources tell @TheVertical.

@DwainPrice: The #Mavs will NOT make any trades today, according to Donnie Nelson, the team's president of basketball operations.
@bobbykaralla: Donnie Nelson said the Mavs received (and turned down) "significant" offers and draft picks for young players, including Dwight Powell.

I'm glad they're keeping Dwight Powell. He is the only positive spin to the Rondo trade and talented young athletic bigs don't grow on trees.

Kind of sad that Mavs stay put with all their guards. It would also be really interesting to see what kind of offers were made for Powell. It is better to hear that Mavs intend to keep Powell even though he has hard time getting any meaningful floor time.

Not really familiar with this guy, but...
Chris Haynes @ChrisBHaynes 23m23 minutes ago
The Dallas Mavericks have crept into the pursuit of Sacramento Kings guard Ben McLemore pursuit, league sources say. They're a dark horse.

So what does that mean?
I thought the deadline has passed. Surely the Kings aren't going to just waive him.
Would be a great youth/bench move if we don't have to give up Powell or Anderson.

Ugh. I hope we aren't talking about a good pick/good young talent.
The Mavs FO has an awful habit of highly overvaluing their own guys (Marquis Daniels, J-Ho, Roddy, etc.)
Powell is a nice energy guy, but he really isn't anything special, and I don't see him becoming anything special. Kind of a 4/5 tweener with an unreliable J, no 3 point range, poor finisher. Aggressive, good rebounder, rolls to basket well. Pretty bad defender (though not for a lack of effort). Don't see him as a starter in his career.

Always a little sad to miss out, even though we had no assets, no matching contracts, and we're not almost a championship team.
Just glad we didn't trade away our young talent.

I'm fine Mavs didn't do any trades. Though now is good to see who works for a 10 day contract. Still have my sights on what happens with David Lee and Kevin Martin.

Well considering Indy offered a first rounder for Roddy suggests that might not be a bad thing....a 1st rounder that turned out to be Paul George. However Donnie probably would have picked someone else.

I'm a little disappointed that we didn't make a move today, but to be honest the most I was realistically expecting was some sort of mid-end of the bench shuffling, not really anything that would really move the needle much. This roster is short on assets so I'm a little relieved that we didn't make a move just to make a move.
This summer, however.... different story.
