mediocre is going a bit far...yes, it would be difficult for the mavs to survive without nash..but, they would still be a good team (no, wouldn't compete for the title)..but they'd still be a good team...it'd take awhile for the offense to find any type of rhythm..but, they wouldn't be mediocre..simply too much talent to be mediocre

You saw it the exact opposite of the way I saw it. Yao was barely challenged by Bradley who was forced to foul him every time. Fortson used his superior strength to lean on Yao and force him into shooting off balance.
|
one of bradley's fouls wasn't on the shot..was simply bradley using both hands a bit too aggressively
as far as fortson..well, yao just missed some easy shots.
bradley came in and had two quick steals and forced yao to miss a shot ..yes, bradley did foul him on an attempt..but, the positive was much better than the negative.
actually, the biggest negative was when yao was being guarded by someone other than fortson or bradley

RE:Mavs vs. Rockets GAMEDAY!!!
something interesting i noticed is that when the rockets were called for defensive 3 sec, dirk immediately stepped up to the FT line without any hesitation. nash wasn't on the floor, but i was thinking that in years past perhaps, that'd be fin stepping up to take the shot. just another sign of dirk stepping up hopefully.
btw, one of the few games i'm finally getting to see here in IL!

RE:Mavs vs. Rockets GAMEDAY!!!
Taking a look at the halftime stats that stick out... 1-9 from beyond the 3 line makes my head hurt. Outrebounding them by 2. Yao's got 5 rebounds, but I think they all came in the first quarter. When Bradley came in, he immediately picked up 2 fouls, but he also screwed up Yao's shot, although he wasn't credited w/any blocks. He also has 2 steals, as does Howard, who I love & desperately want to see more of. The other stat that looks good is only 2 TOs.
Best is the one guy where when he's in the game, I never noticed him except, of course, when he was doing something wrong.
On another note, I love that new T-Mac Adidas commercial.

RE: Mavs vs. Rockets GAMEDAY!!!
I was wrong in my predictions. I didn't feel good about this game, but we're able to counter most of what the Rockets are wanting to do.
Mavs lead 50-44 at the half.
Dirk (19) 7-11, 0-2, 1-2, 15pts, 3rbs, 1as, 1to
Walker (17) 4-9, 0-3, 1-1, 9pts, 6rbs, 4as, 1to
Fortson (11) 2rbs
Finley (22) 3-6, 0-2, 6pts, 3rbs, 1as, 1stl, 1blk
Nash (14) 1-3, 2-2, 4pts, 4rbs, 6as
Bradley (2) 0-1, 2stls
Jamison (15) 5-11, 1-1, 11pts, 5rbs
Best (10) 0-2, 0-1, 2as
Howard (10) 2-5, 1-1, 5pts, 2rbs, 2stls, 1blk
Dirk is on fire offensively and we need to keep feeding him in the 2nd half. Walker finally settled down and is in the flow. Forston's line doesn't look impressive, but he's held his own against Ming. Finley and Jamison started contributing after slow starts. Nash is running the ship flawlessly. Best and Bradley didn't show much. Howard is fun to watch and hopefully finds time in the 2nd half as well.

RE:Mavs vs. Rockets GAMEDAY!!!
Even without Nash the Mavs would be a playoff team. It would just take much longer to gell without Nash. I really respect the fact that Nash is putting his game aside (for the most part) in order to get the team started in the right direction. And considering that Nash is trying for a new contract, it is a VERY risky manuever.

What got me is when right after he said that statement he said Fin and Nash aren't shooting well but Fin is shooting 50% from the field. I'm not sure what Nash is shooting but it might be good also. I'm not suer if it was Kerr who made that statement but I can't stand the guy any more. For one reason and we all know what it is. The playoffs and he doesn't give Mavs props either.

RE:Mavs vs. Rockets GAMEDAY!!!
HALFTIME THOUGHTS
I am pleased with the job that both Fortson and Bradley did. They each used their strength to do a pretty good job on Yao-- granted he missed some easy shots, but the D definitely made him work for everything. Good job overall by both.
The offense still doesn't seem to be clicking that well without Nash in their. We got some buckets, and I thought Best wasn't playing badly, we just don't get the same open looks as when Nash is in there.
Howard looks great. Maybe some shots he could've passed on, but he's just so active out there it's hard not to like him.
Jamison... playing well, needs to get used to coming off the bench, thats all.

I saw the exact same thing. Ming wouldn't even dribble because he could only do 2 things. Either he dribbles nad get stripped by a Mav or he could force the shot up like he did with Fortson on him. Fortson simply put his weight on him and Ming couldn't move and was forced to throw something up there. That was all Fortson's doing.

I don't disagree. Right now, however, he is clearly the one guy that makes this team go. They can survive without Dirk on the floor for extended periods. Without Nash, they fizzle. Consistently.

Looking at the Mavs stats, the Mavs are just shooting bad from the 3. Why not continue to go inside? I just want to see the Mavs say the hell with the 3 tonight and just go mid range and inside.

The Rockets are packing the paint with Yao in there. They are giving us threes and no easy baskets. The Lakers and Spurs do that too. Oddly enough it puts a lot of pressure on the outside shot.

the mavs were running some zone at times..and other times, the mavs were sagging down in the lane..so to answer your question..who's supposed to be guarding Jackson?...well, it's already been said..neither

It isn't by accident... it is from Fortson banging with him.

umk, sure it is
fortson's doing a good job of not allowing him to get within four feet from the bucket..but ming's just missing easy looks.
it reminds me of duncan turning around and shooting over najera... most of the time, he'll be on and tear ya up..but sometimes they're off

Nice play by Bradley. I really like the high-low game that Fortson and Bradley is putting on Yao. Fortson bangs him on the lower body and Bradley goes over the top. And both of them rotate quickly so Yao never gets used to it.

I know i'm a Fin fan and while his shooting hasn't been on point this season every game this season he has been aggressive on the defensive side and these last 2 games he has stepped his defense up. For me thats just great to see especially as a Mavs fan. I just hope he keeps it up and stays healthy.

I think that if the crowd had been in(at) this game from the start and with Dirk hitting the way he is, this game should have been a blow-out. Mavs fans... ditch work for the early games!

fin is playing good defense. I think he needs to stop forcing things. Our team isnt the same as last year where we needed him to score. He could score 5 a game and play good d and us win
