Oh, and it's not like we got our panties in a bunch about the DUST Chip nearly as bad as the DB.com folks did - those guys were crucifying Fish over there! (and for the record, I think Fish is a decent source of Mavs news - I read his page a couple times a week, despite his shtick...)
No, I'm not ChefEd, LOL! That's too funny. I'm KillerLeft - that's my handle pretty much everywhere I go. That thread did turn my attention to this site, but I'm not here to further any agenda - just to talk Mavs.

Actually, you seem to have quite a few strong opinions about this community already.

I'd think an "open mind" would maybe wait until there's actually some Mavs news before determining the quality of this site - you couldn't have picked a worse time of the year to make judgments...

yeah. This is the worst month possible for basketball discussion, yet our offseason thread is still going strong at 2800+ posts.

Sorry if I've given you the impression that I have "strong opinions"...I feel like my mind is pretty open.

I'm definitely aware of the time of year - DB.com has been slow lately, too. That's kind of why I've been looking around...

Going strong for how much can be expected without this place turning into 4chan. Just about everything that could be discussed, has been discussed. Almost anything else would be fluff and/or stupid bickering and/or trolling. In a few weeks it will be Oct and the real discussion will start, like it always does.

Wow, I think there are more posts over at DB.com about this thread than there were posts in this thread before KillerLeft bumped it...

The only reason I started this is because certain posters kept bitching about Fisher in the Tyson Chandler thread, so I figured I'd corral all the hate in one place as to not bog down the rest of the board.

I can't believe how much offense people at DB.com are taking to this - it's almost as pathetic as Fisher's recent back-and-forths with Simmons and Hollinger (which is easily the lowest I've seen Fish go - kinda immature really...)

I'm definitely not of the opinion that there aren't (m)any intelligent and insightful board members at DB.com. The reason I've never posted there is the apparent lack of moderation, which the community clearly isn't able to make up for on its own, in the "Mavs and NBA Talk" forum. That and the seemingly higher amount of only somewhat insightful members. Oftentimes, there are literally five different threads on the first page about the exact same topic which makes it pretty difficult to have a deep and lengthy discussion. Additionally, there seem to be quite a lot of off-topic remarks as well, so the substantial postings are frequently surrounded by less substantial postings and thus harder to find.

Besides the quality posters, I really like this community for its self-controlling habits. Apparently, most members prefer structured discussions in a single thread over dozens of new threads every day and new members follow accordingly. That makes it easier to catch up with what's going on and participate in a discussion.

Personally, I actually enjoy the overall amount of postings here due to the fact that it's manageable for someone who doesn’t have three hours a day to read hundreds of postings on a basketball board (even though that's what's eventually going to happen when the new season has finally started). Still, this forum's structure should help anyone manage it.

Oh, and as an aside: vBulletin is a much better forum software than Yuku, not to mention that the DB.com board design is quite a thorn in the seyed...

There are some great points here. I agree with most of them.

I'm not going to disagree with anything you said about the redundant topics, because you're 100% correct - one does have to sift through more BS to hang out there. For me, it has become easy to sense which threads should be read and which should be ignored, but I admit that skill took a little too much time to develop. I think that's just the penalty for having way, way more posters. Some of them are going to be idiots, and keeping the board organized is more of a challenge.

I totally agree about Yuku, too, but I wish I didn't have to log in again every time I come back to this forum. I suppose I'll get used to that, though.

The main issue I'd take with your opinion, dalger, is that there are actually some GREAT posters on that other board. To name just a few: MD, Kammrath, DLord, Hairdude, MMG, And1Mak, Cole, NoidDroid, SukMyDirk, Searil, Mongorr...I could go on and on, but the point is that there is fulfilling basketball discussion going on at DB.com - so much of it that it's worth fighting through the flaws.

I hope that I enjoy this board, too.

Why is Fish still pushing those "Free Roddy B" tees, as if he has not been freed?....I mean we haven't seen it yet b/c of injury but im sure Roddy B is now free and will start upon returning...

Hey Fish how about a new shirt for Roddy?

I think if he actually starts a game not due to injury then you can say he's been freed. Until then...well when you have inventory, you have inventory.

Fish is a great guy, but after today I think DB.com might be dead.

He sold controlling interest to Fox and is having everyone move to a new board on scout. There are lots of problems, and while I won't bore you with them, I will tell you that people are pretty pissed.

I'm glad I created an account over here.

Yep. Time for everyone at DB.com to come here. He sold out to Fox, and that's the end of it. Their site is horrible, Fox is horrible... and frankly Fox is evil.

I know I'm not hanging out on a Fox site.

That's fine. This place rocks.

I don't think everyone needs to come here, there was a lot of junk on that board.

There are a few members of this site who are regular posters over at db.com.

I think KillerLeft is a recent transfer and I'm sure there are a few others who have started new accounts recently...

Welcome!

It kinda sucks DB.com is dead. It was always fun to go over there after a loss and read the ridiculously over-the-top rants. Then, after getting that out of your system you could come over here for a more reasoned analysis.

Well, I posted on the DB boards quite a bit. First as Bayliss, then as "stuck on automatic."

I just really hope Silent Mav, Flame, SukMyDirk, MilesBerg (although he used to post here), and a few others come over here.

And on that note, I wish we could get Czar, Venger, AEMiller, and a couple other posters from LMFforum to post here as well.

I have taken my talents from DB.com and have joined dallas-mavs.com.I was Pistol over there but when i tried to register here as Pistol I was denied, so I selected another of my childhood favorites Hondo (John Havlichek) as my user name.

Welcome guys!

While we're not completely free of overreactions and homerism, I feel like the average intelligence and BBIQ over here is great (especially compared to all the other basketball forums I read) and we have a pretty fun group of regulars.

(plus this site looks WAY better than the db.com boards)

I'm a little lost. What does selling to fox have to do with his move to scout.com? I didn't know the two were affiliated, but I can't say I have posted on a scout board in a while.

Yeah I tried working my way into db.com a little bit last year, but I found Yuku to be a complete eyesore for whatever reason. I think those adds that popped out of nowhere were subconscious drains of my life force.

Btw, welcome to the newbies! It wouldn't hurt to have a little new blood around here.

(plus this site looks WAY better than the db.com boards)
This. Also, the ads aren't half as annoying as they were on db.com.

Welcome everyone.

Bad news for all... I can already tell the collective IQ on this forum has dropped a half a dozen points.

...depends on who comes over. It's true, there are quite a few DB.com posters who add absolutely nothing and would be dead weight on this forum, too. However, there are at least 20 who would enhance this place significantly.

Besides, how many total people post here? There doesn't seem to be enough activity to foster any meaningful discussion. Some new blood would do this board wonders, if you ask me.

Don't listen to Murph. He's grumpy.

Funniest part is he's the one crusading for more threads (and therefore more indepth discussion) yet he's hating on noobs.

More people than you think. And the ones who post regularly know their sh*t. Off the top of my head some regulars who really know their stuff would be chum, LonghornDub, UD, jthig, Flaco, FINtastic, TheSpiral, sike, Mary, rabbit, dirka, CadBane(even though he's a dick), u2, tcat, BG, dude, erica, bernardos, kg, UL, windmill.... etc etc etc. (dont take offense if I didn't mention you haha, I just figured my point was across by now ) Plenty of people that have contributed to lots of great basketball discussion. It would be great though if the good posters from db.com came over.. can't ever have too many.

Don't listen to FF1, he's insignificant.

Anyways, my comment was a lighthearted sarcastic little jab at db.com.. nothing more. I realize that there's an intelligent poster or two over there.

I'm a frequent lurker here, I almost never post, but I'm glad my ID wasn't deleted. I like the conversation here and hope my lurkerness doesn't offend the people here.

The general board activity seems to be less so far this year than usual (though I've only really been around for two years here), so while maybe a lot of people just left, I'd imagine the more likely explanation is that people just aren't into basketball season yet, especially with the Rangers success and the Cowboys enept failure (they have to call in a bitch about Wade Phillips which doesn't leave them any time to post!).

Alright, I have to point this out: "Almost never" posting would mean that you have posted a few times in the past. Your post count says one. So I believe the correct term would be "never" post.

But seriously, post some! Even if its just a few times a week, that's cool with me. The addiction grows slowly.

I'm just wondering-does this site moderate pretty well? A huge problem over on db.com is /or was, shall I say-the massive number of trolls. The trolls in general seemed to be well accepted over there-which clogged up a lot of threads.

Yes. The mods stay on top of their game here.
