Bullets:
Game:- Mavs beat the Magic 107.37 to 105.21 PP100, score 27.91 in Transition (5th most all season)
- They also turn the ball over only 9.66 P100, fourth fewest this season, but rebounding issues continue (44.05%), got outrebounded in 5 of last 6
- The Mavs failed to rebound 16% of their misses on the offensive end for the 7th straight game. In the other 46 games, they missed that mark only 5 times
- Not surprisingly, the Magic attempt the second most 3FG for opps this season
- In the first half, Mavs allowed 117.34 PP100, only 92.82 in the second. They played their 2nd best 2H on the road this season (+23.74)
- It was their best offensive 2H on the road this season (116.56), mainly because of transition opportunities. Shot 57.50% eFG
- Magic went 18-22 at the rim, 6-24 on other 2FG. Mavs attempted at lot long 2FG, but converted at a good rate (14-30)
Lineups:- Starting unit got outscored by -15.07 PP100 on 124.33 Def, but bench units set new season-high in OffEff (126.75) and played great D (81.48)
- Best unit was Terry-West-Shawn-Dirk-Ian, outscored Magic 25-17 (+46.46 PP100)
- Carter, Kidd not worth much tonight, only backcourt that worked was Terry/West (58-41; 88.81 Def). Jasons: 13-24 (119.96 D). Ex-Nets: 29-33 (124.33 D)
- C-Watch: Mahinmi outplayed Haywood: +39.49 to -36.80 PP100; 76.33 to 126.78 Def; 47.22 to 38.64 TRB%
- Unadj. +/- to West (+68.60). Effs with him: 123.2 Off & 87.1 Def. Not loved: Kidd, Carter, Odom, Wood
Players:- Delonte also leads advanced stuff: 29.1 PER, 0.421 WS48 and 0.415 WP48 all team-high.
- Marion, Dirk, Terry, Mahinmi with good performances as well, Shawn finally got it going offensively, shot a team-high 75.00% eFG, also was best rebounder (15.8%)
- Then there's a pretty big whole as Kidd, Carter, Wood and Odom were more than useless and in fact didn't contribute to the win.
Rankings & Stuff:- Dallas improves to 12-6 on B2Bs, 5-5 on the road. They outscore opps by 2.39 PP100 in these games, ranks 7th in NBA, and play the 4th best defense
- Since the All-Star Weekend, Dallas gets outscored by -2.68 PP100, their defense has dropped from 98.34 to 106.23.
- The Mavs also average a league-low 54.88 points off FTs and in the paint since the ASG

West should start the rest of the way with Carter playing only SF minutes until he gets it going again. Normally both Kidd & Carter shouldn't play 25 with this kind of performance.

I'm not debating that point with you in this thread. I'm enjoying the victory in this thread.

I don't think enough people are talking about what Ian did last night. He played the whole 4th quarter I believe and he did an excellent job of making sure Dwight didn't get the ball in the post. When Dwight did get it, Ian bodied him fairly well considering how much size he's giving up. Also, that monster block on Turkoglu was critical.

Yes, Ian played a nice game. Rick should trust him more. Ian is not as flashy as Wright and his stats look worse on paper, but he seems to be more valuable than Wrights "10pts 7 rebounds"(and bad D).

Notebook: Mavericks 100, Magic 98
Posted Saturday March 31, 2012 12:42AM
By Dick Scanlon, for NBA.com http://www.nba.com/games/20120330/DALORL/gameinfo.html
THE FACTS: Dirk Nowitzki's 28 points included a 15-foot game-winning shot with 5.9 seconds left in the Dallas Mavericks' 100-98 victory over the Orlando Magic.
Jason Terry and Delonte West came off the Dallas bench to combine for 32 points (17 in the fourth quarter), plus nine rebounds, eight assists and three steals.
Jameer Nelson led Orlando with 24 points. Ryan Anderson added 21 points, but missed a layup at the final horn.
The Magic led by as many as 15 points late in the third quarter.
QUOTABLE: "We had a chance to tie it and I blew it. Ultimately, we need to play the whole game. We've been talking about that the whole season practically, just playing a whole 48 minutes. They made a great run and we didn't have answers during that time."
-- Anderson
THE STAT: After 34 minutes the Magic had committed eight turnovers and had a 14-point lead. In the final 14 minutes they had eight more turnovers and the lead evaporated.
TURNING POINT: Hedo Turkoglu drove for a dunk that would have put the Magic up by three with 1:12 left, but Ian Mahinmi blocked it and West got the rebound.
QUOTABLE II: "You block and go down and score, that was huge. There was not one play in the last six minutes that was not a huge play. That's the kind of game it was."
-- Dallas coach Rick Carlisle
HOT: After a broken finger limited him to a total of eight minutes in the preceding 22 games, West scored 15 points in 24 minutes for the Mavericks. "His energy, his toughness has been something we've missed. He came to play tonight and we needed him," said Terry.
NOT: J.J. Redick missed all six of his shots, including five 3-pointers, and committed three turnovers.
GOOD MOVE: The Mavericks put Dwight Howard at the free throw line 16 times. He provided nine misses, which stood out big in a two-point loss.
NOTABLE: After missing six games with a knee injury, Dallas center Brendan Haywood started and played almost 26 minutes . . . The Mavericks have won six straight times in Orlando and the Magic have won their last two in Dallas.
UP NEXT: For the Mavericks, Monday vs. L.A. Clippers, Wednesday vs. Memphis, Friday vs. Portland. For the Magic, Sunday vs. Denver, Tuesday @ Detroit, Thursday vs. New York.

What a great win by our team, down 15 at one point but they never called it quits. They showed a lot of poise tonight. I'm proud of our guys' effort. And what an amazing shot by Dirk!

I think rc will continue to start carter to grab some minutes for him. Carter starts well but really fades quickly.

Dwight and Timmy are centers. Hence why they don't guard awesome power forwards.

You desperately need to qualify your assessment of Roddy's recent play. He has played *more* consistently, but not consistently as a whole.
He was terrible against the Lakers, terrible against the Heat, and pretty bad in the first Rockets game.
He had a really nice five game stretch, and then he regressed to being good every other game or so.
I'm not blasting him, but having West back means we don't have to rely on Roddy; instead we can throw him in there as a change of pace at times. This is a huge plus.

I would assume he's references the Delonte/Dirk story from that game. Dirk told Delonte he was going to get that game for him, because he knew it was important. They had several moments together on the court during that game.
That was our first sign that Delonte was making a huge mark on the chemistry of this team. I think it's very clear that Dirk loves the guy.

Yeah, i get it now. I can see that, it looks like everybody likes him, and if he gives us a better chance at good chemistry (which was questionable), by all means, play the crap out him, it's not like we have much to lose on that back court. Kidd is having the worst season of his career, Roddy is average even though he was improving in march, Carter is crashing back to Earth (he already landed probably) and Terry is as streaky as ever. Might as well play West 35 minutes a game, and see what's happening with the team play, and chemistry.

I'd like to see that video. Sucks if true, but people tend to whine and complain when losing happens.

Hmm...
Quote:
Orlando Magic head coach Stan Van Gundy accused Dallas Mavericks center Brendan Haywood of punching Dwight Howard in the lower back during Friday night's game and plans to send video of the incident to the NBA office.
Howard played 44 minutes in the game, which the Mavericks won 100-98 after rallying from 15 points down, and finished with 19 points and 15 rebounds. The All-NBA center did not participate in Orlando's Saturday practice and was scheduled to see a back specialist later in the day, but the Magic expect Howard to be available for Sunday's game against the Denver Nuggets.
"It's really ridiculous and I want to get it on film and send it in (to the league office)," Van Gundy said Saturday, according to OrlandoMagic.com. "Haywood just punched him literally with a closed fist right in the back. So (Howard) got through the game because he was loose, but then it really tightened up.
"They are going to work on him and hopefully he'll be OK. But (Howard) didn't do anything today."
Haywood declined to comment when reached by ESPNDallas.com.
Haywood had missed the previous seven games due to a sprained right knee. Wearing a bulky brace on that knee, he played 26 minutes against the Magic, scoring five points and grabbing three rebounds before sitting out the entire fourth quarter.
Van Gundy did not specify when the alleged incident occurred.
"It happened on that one possession twice and it's a little frustrating," Van Gundy said. "That one I'm going to send in because that one was out of hand. The guy's punching a guy in the back, meanwhile at the other end ... I'll just leave it at that."
