What's obviously going to happen:
1) Lakers and Clippers both have fairly unceremonious playoff exits
2) Heat easily win the championship
3) Cuban realizes the mistakes he made last summer in being too passive during FA recruitment. He uses his Jedi mind tricks to convince both CP3 and Dwight that their only chance to compete for a championship and dethrone the nearly invincible Heat is to team up with Dirk in Dallas.
4) ????
5) Profit
I don't see how anybody can reasonably dispute that this will definitely happen. Bet the farm.

Paul is possible, Dwight not so much.
Paul+Dirk would be almost like Malone+Stockton. Sick.
Let's hope LAC gets swept.

Also a Paul+Wright duo. Chris Paul could help do wonders for Wright inside.

Are people really setting themselves up again in thinking Paul or Howard come here?

Clearly you didn't read LD's post. It's not Paul OR Howard. It's Paul AND Howard. And it's not thinking, it's knowing.

We should totally get Dwight Howard AND Chris Paul, then round out the roster with the Monstars from Space Jam!

I notice you didn't give JJB his due credit for components 4 and 5 of your plan. That's intellectual piracy, bub.

I knew I had seen JJB somewhere before he showed up on the Mavs' roster.

Clearly the proper response to this was "Are you really stressing yourself out by thinking they won't?"
Let's try to get this right next time. It's gonna be a while till all this goes down.

The Mavericks still own the rights to Calathes, who signed a two year deal with Russian team Lokomotiv Kuban back in July. Calathes, who turned 24 in February, had been rumored to be interested in beginning his NBA career over the summer, but the timing was less than ideal, as the Mavericks were putting all business on hold in anticipation of the Deron Williams decision.

What are the outs in his Russian contract? Is there any way he could be a part of team next year?

I dunno, but he signed a 2-year/€2.2m contract last summer, so it's not like there's a helluva lot of time/money left on it... Surely there must be some sort of buyout clause?

Cuban on Carter in BG's most recent article:
Quote:
“He just wants to compete and win. Period. End of story. All the s— that I heard from the past, I don’t know where that came from. I’m proud that he’s on the Mavericks. The guy lays it out every time. I can’t put it any other way. He’s one of those guys I want to retire here.”

RC played OJ 35 minutes a game even though he's playing so badly. If you notice when the first subs are made mayo stays on the court. Rick keeps him out there like he's a f'ing superstar. Some of those minutes should have gone to Vince, Roddy and Morrow.

Consider this: Mavs gave up Mahinmi for Collison. Now Mavs are looking for a center to do what Mahinmi does. Pacers fleeced Mavs.

What, exactly, does Ian do that we need?
Ian Mahinmi: 5.0 PPG, 3.9 RPG, 0.8 BLKPG, 16.3 MPG
Brandan Wright: 8.5 PPG, 4.1 RPG, 1.2 BLKPG, 18.0 MPG
Chris Kaman: 10.6 PPG, 5.6 RPG, 0.8 BLKPG, 20.9 MPG
Elton Brand: 7.3 PPG, 6.0 RPG, 1.3 BLKPG, 21.3 MPG
Darren Collison: 11.8 PPG, 5.1 APG, 2.7 RPG, 29.3 MPG

I'd take Bernard James over Ian Mahinmi any day of the week.

he plays behind hibbert so obviously his numbers are not great at 16 min. per game. wright is a pf not a center. mahinmi is better than kaman and brand (more mobile, much, much much better defense, much younger, more upside).

Dumb????
Here's a dumb post:
DC = Keeper. Between his play, his manageable cap hold, and Dallas' ability to go over the cap to re-sign him, locking him up long-term is about as close to being a no-brainer as anything could be at this point.
Brandan & Elton: Depending on who else Dallas targets over the summer, I question whether there'll be enough minutes for both guys, particularly if other teams try to recruit Brandan as a starter (I still see him as a bench player, myself), but I'd be very happy to see both of them return. Again, Dallas' ability to go over the cap to re-sign them is a significant factor.
Elton is over the hill and getting older by the minute. You obviously prefer his lack of defensive skill to Mahinmi's shot blocking.
Dumb????

Despite Dirk missing 1/3 of the season, Brandan Wright has still logged more minutes at center than power forward - and most of his minutes at the 4 came with Elton Brand on the floor, so it's fairly debatable as to who was playing which position... If he's listed as a center, and he plays most of his minutes at center, then he's a center.
And the numbers must be lying their asses off if Mahinmi is "much better" than Kaman and Brand... Claiming that Mahinmi's numbers are limited because he plays behind Hibbert is a pretty weak argument when each of the Mavs centers average 5 or less MPG more than him... But here's the Per 36 Minutes stats anyway:
Mahinmi: 11.1 PPG, 8.5 RPG, 1.8 BLKPG
Kaman: 18.2 PPG, 9.7 RPG, 1.4 BLKPG
Brand: 12.3 PPG, 10.1 RPG, 2.1 BLKPG
And that's totally ignoring the fact that Collison -- even on his worst nights -- is much better than the NOBODY we would've had at PG if we'd kept Mahinmi.

Well, I guess you've got me there. Back on Nov. 8th of last year I posted - in response to a thread that was started with a disclaimer stating the obvious about all new player evaluations being premature - that Darren Collison, who started the season off playing surprisingly well (shockingly well, actually, given how he's frequently looked since), appeared to be a keeper.
Of course, as I've watched Darren through the year my opinion on him has evolved to the point where I don't see him as anything more than a backup, don't expect him to be here next year, and have questioned whether Dallas will/should even extend him a qualifying offer to make him an RFA. And that's where my brand of dumb and your brand of abject stupidity diverge. Because you're sitting here on April 17th of 2013 - after Ian has spent a full season sucking it up while being overpaid in Indiana - arguing that Dallas is somehow not only worse off without him, but would be better served having him than they would be by re-signing Brandan Wright.
As for the bit about Brand, not really sure what your problem with that is. After seeing the way the coaching staff has had to try to protect Elton from wear this year I've revised my opinion of what he's worth downward. And I've been impressed enough with the progress in Brandan's midrange game that I'm more interested in keeping him than I was at the start of the year. But those modifications aside, I actually still basically agree with what I'd originally written.
Then again, you did just call out Elton for a lack of defensive skill while praising Ian's shotblocking in spite of the fact that Elton's been a far superior defender historically, and averaged more blocks per minute this year than Ian. So maybe I should just chalk it up to you being you again.

I wouldn't mind this line up even thought it wont ever happen
PG. Chris Paul
SG. OJ Mayo
SF. Shawn Marion
PF. Dirk Nowitzki
C. Dwight Howard
I honestly don't expect Dallas to get anyone big next season

You take an old Brand. I'll take Ian. Mavs had a bad year with Brand and he's not getting younger.
Dirk, Marion are keeper vets. Brand, M. James and Kaman are a waste of minutes.
