He's 6'7 in shoes. He plays in shoes. So it's safe to say he's 6'7.

Good news is we get to see what else Cuban can cook up. We have been impressed to this point. I'm actually a little excited to see what could be coming next.

I don't even understand how it's possible for someone to get 13 and 10 in a summer league game. There must have been some sort of scoring miscalculation.

That's just the thing about Dejuan Blair though, he redefines the boundaries of what is possible.

I say we trade Dirk for Blair. Dirk never had 13 and 10 in a summer league game.

Guys, Spursfan has a point.
The Spurs are just going to be too good for us next season. Spursfan convinced me.
Here's hoping to Wade in 2010-2011.

Bring back Hollins and Singleton. Do this
http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMa...tradeId=ne6yhk , trade Buckner/Humphries/Williams/Jawai to Utah Jazz for Carlos Boozer.
Roster:
Kidd/Josh/ Marion/Dirk/ Boozer
Barea/Terry/ Ross/Singleton/Damp
Beaubois/Hollins
Nivins/Carroll/

They also don't play in 2-inch heels. His combine measurement in shoes was 6'6 1/4.

As for Jefferson, I said he's a 20 and 5 guy because he averaged that last season. Did I say he's averaging that this season? No. What I'm saying is he's capable of averaging that. On a night when Tony is off or Manu is off, Jefferson can step up.

How did this thread become about the spurs...back to topic...
This seems like a very odd move for Otis. He lets Hedo walk yet he signs Bass and Gortat for about the same $$...That really doesn't make sense. No offense to Bass and Gortat, but Hedo was great for them in the playoffs.
Unfortunately, there really aren't any Centers left that I'm aware of. My best hope is that Hollins improves his game...Does anybody have a list of the significant free agents left on the table? Maybe an up and coming young PG?

he dropped because he doesn't have ACLs. the spurs will be lucky if he's still in the league in 5-7 years, but when he is on the floor - he'll be productive.

weight problems he might have. size-wise, blair is fine. his arms reach up to the same height as most guys who are 6'9 and 6'10. that's where is basketball is played - it really doesn't matter how high your hairline is.
i watch a lot of the big east year in and year out, and i'm bullish on the kid. with one or two exceptions, he had very little trouble getting his shot off against thabeet last year.

So Otis Smith says for a week that he dosen't see him matching the offer. That over 5m a year is just too much.
Meanwhile Rick and Donnie say they have Gortat pretty much locked up, and cant pay Bass because he wont get minuets anymore.
So Otis signs bass and proceeds to pull a complete 180 and match the offer on Gortat, right after signing Bass.
ANY ONE SEE ANYTHING FISHY ABOUT THAT!

Just Fuuu the Magic.
Ridiculous match after signing Bass. And i love how everyone celebrating Otis like a Hero and if Cuban would have done the same (Bass as RFA, matching a full MLE offer of someone with Dirk and Marion on the team) Cuban would be everywhere a money throwing away monkey
Gortat will be pissed and even with that "Work and your jumper to get PT beside Dwight" Bass will be then pissed.
Nice work for a nice price
PS: Well...crap for Kaman, lets get it done.

I looked through the list of free agents left and I just don't see anybody that fits our needs like Gortat would've. I like the idea of Felton, but I don't think he's worth as much and won't start...Damn...A sad day indeed.

How much is Odem asking for? I just like the idea of crippling the Lakers a little.

We can only offer Odom the MLE. No logically reason he would choose our MLE over the Lakers MLE. Unless he's a closet Mavs fan.

Losing Gortat feel painful at the moment but, I still feel we're one of the top teams in the West and we're not through yet.

I think missing out on Gortty shifts their gears a bit...from filling holes mode to make a move trade mode.
time will tell

I've heard you said a couple of times and you're off base. First of all he really doesn't have the standing reach of a 6'9-6'10 NBA player. There wasn't a 6'9 player at the combine with a standing reach of less than 8'10, Blairs standing reach. He's not super explosive either. His max jump height at the combine was 11'7 1/2...Beabois' was 11'7.
I'd add that long arms don't make up for lack of height in most instances. Offensive players will still be able to easily see over him to get looks or scan the defense. And since you don't shoot with your arms fully extended he'll still get his shot blocked a lot.

I actually think there is quite a bit of silver lining. Gortat is still an unproven product in my eyes. He could have very well turned out to be another Diop signing (the second time around). Go after a more proven center. Marcus Camby would be absolutely perfect here.

He would, but seeing as how he has an expiring contract, I see virtually no way we can get him here.

Camaby would really help us out, a problem last year was perimeter defense and no offense to Damp or Dirk they aren't good help defenders so they finished with ease, now with Marion the perimeter defense improves, also Ross will help it out a bit (I am guessing he will play around 10 mpg), and you have Camby to still make up for having JJB and Jet. All of a sudden defense doesn't look so bad.
On another note: what if they Hobo dude is Otis Smith?

Sign and trade Howard for David Lee. Resign Hollins and somehow get Childress for the 2? I wasn't in the mood for crazy scenarios anymore this offseason lol

I am probably clueless, but does Gortat have to accept the Magic's offer. I am confused as to why he would otherwise. Even at similar pay rates he would get to start here, and have a shot at more cash. In Orlando he will still be second fiddle.

Not to mention that this is the NBA. You have a 6'9"-6'10" guys like Brandan Wright and Kevin Durant who have wingspans ~7'4" anyways.

I have this gut feeling Dampier is going to hurt more than just Nelson this year...
Why did we not tell Bass to wait? We could've offered him the entire MLE this way.

A few points:
1. I said several days ago that losing Gortat would not be catostrophic, but tying up the MLE for a week and letting other people sign elsewhere potentially could be. So now Gortat isn't coming, Bass is leaving, and Rasheed and McDyess have signed elsewhere. (BTW, what's Bass thinking right now? I suppose he could still start at PF, but if he doesn't, he's a backup PF and not playing any center. Oooof. So this move gives the Magic two potentially unhappy front court players.)
2. If I'm a Magic fan I'm absolutely LIVID that my team let Turkoglu walk for money and then signed a backup center to an overpay contract.
3. I don't know that this hurts us THAT much this season. I think you're going to see a LOT of Dirk/Marion at the 4/5 this season. The real potential for hurt from this move starts next year.
4. The week to match is a joke. Otis sat around for a week, listened to all the people talk about what a deal the Mavs were getting on this guy and talked himself into an idiotic move that adversely effects both teams.
5. I wish utter failure on the entire Magic organization. I wasn't even that fired up about Gortat, but this sucks.
6. I agree with GMC; I will be VERY interested to see what kind of rumblings leak out of Mav headquarters over this.
7. Hitch up your boots, Cubes and Donnie, you've got more work to do.
