Probably better to take the perceived high road, especially since public opinion doesn't really favor him... He had a lot more support after the 2006 Finals than he does now, especially with the media spinning this thing.
Aren't our enemies already enemies though? Unless you mean that it may antagonize the league office. For sure there won't be any business between the clippers and Mavs for a longggggg time

As I said earlier there seems to be proof that they knowingly colluded to damage a rival team. It's not like he called either team on the eve of signing and said he'd gotten cold feet.,it may have been as early as Sunday according to the Clippers own accounts! These guys aren't dumb. They knew that by keeping this all secret they were damaging the Mavs franchise. That was NOT their primary motive of course. But willfully concealing something that could potentially cost a rival organization tens of millions of dollars. This could have ramifications on the franchise for a DECADE. If the NBA doesn't investigate and issue a punishment soon then Cuban absolutely should sue. To not do so to protect business interests is cowardly.

The chances of proving this seems so low though

It would be difficult because DJ could always say he was still contemplating the decision, but if this can be rebutted with evidence from discovery (text messages, emails, etc.) showing DJ had made up his mind earlier than reports indicated then there's a very good case for a interference with business relations claim against the Clippers.

A promissory estoppel claim against DJ would be harder to maintain because of the lack of actual damages. (It's hard to prove we would've successfully signed someone else for sure if not for DJ's verbal contract).

If you mean Ballmer, Doc, DeAndre, etc... Then yeah, our enemies are already enemies.

Cuban wouldn't just be stepping into a court of law, but also into the court of public opinion... And as the whole emoji and Brussard dramas proved; it's easy to sway public opinion because the public are idiots (and like a zombie horde, they'll always win because they have the numbers).

Has anyone else seen the conspiracy theory that we have a joe smith situation going on with Jordan? It's literally just a theory and there is absolutely no evidence but that would make the most sense for his behavior right? And it would explain why the clips didn't want him talking to the mavs orrrrrrr his agent.

You mean that he was offered an under the table deal? And he's really being paid, lets say, 5mil more per year by Ballmer? I doubt they would be dumb enough to leave evidence of that lying around. Certainly not anywhere that it could be easily found.

I love that Jordan apologizes just for having a "change of heart." Not for keeping it a secret from Cuban until after the Mavs had already missed out on all their other options and doing a truly incalculable amount of damage to this franchise, setting it back for years to come.

FUCK DEANDRE JORDAN. HE CAN TAKE HIS BULLSHIT APOLOGY AND SHOVE IT UP HIS IMMATURE, COWARDLY, LYING ASS.

My final comment on placing blame over the DeAndre Jordan debacle by way of analogy:

As part of a hazing ritual, a group of fraternity brothers have one of their pledges, Steve, beat the crap out of an old lady carrying her groceries from her car to her house, just off campus. The fraternity knew exactly when this old lady would be there. The University knew that this had happened before. This fraternity had hazed other students similarly in the past, and several old ladies had had the crap beat out of them just off campus.

Who is at fault? How do you distribute the blame? The pledge? The fraternity? The university? The old lady?

The pledge is DeAndre Jordan. The fraternity is the Los Angeles Clippers players and organization. The university is the NBA. And the old lady is the Dallas Mavericks.

So if you want to start telling me how the old lady had notice that the fraternity had done this before, and that she could have moved further away from the campus, AND you haven't first expressed your outrage at the pledge's actions, at the fraternity conducting such hazing, and at the university knowing about the practice and not doing anything to stop it...
If you want to focus after the incident on how the old lady screwed up and should have known better? Then, I don't even know how to respond to that.

The university should probably put some kind of rule in place so that frat students don't go around beating the crap out of old ladies.
The ball is in the NBA's court.

In your analogy, was the old lady a kind of MILF-y cougar? Was she flirtatious with the frat boys? Did she sunbathe nude in her backyard, in plain view of the frat house? Did she have a history of brazenly chasing after much younger men, who were only interested in her money? Did she invite them over for homecooked meals and then let her negligee drop? Did she bring along her much younger, hotter niece and suggest a threesome? A kind of open-relationship, long-term ménage Ã* trois? Just for the sake of analogy.

I'm surprised that I'm the first to mention this, but has no one else noticed the similiarity in appearance between Deandre Jordan and Sheneneh Jenkins?

I think we know where Tyson Chandler stands. I hate it ended like that but you can't blame the guy...

Feel bad for Cuban?

I brought a championship to that city. No I don't feel bad.

He's definitely over dallas and how FO treated him.

Good, we did not waste quadrillions of Dollars on such an asshole. Hopefully one or two from the backoffice show some balls and step down. Most everybody knows, you have to have two irons in the fire pit.

Cuban has no case, because he could not have a contract. The CBA prohibited any kind of binding agreement, and Cuban was actually fined by the NBA for announcing that they had a deal with Jordan during the moratorium.

Cuban would have even less chance of prevailing than when he threatened to sue Nellie for taking 'trade secrets' and 'proprietary information' to the Warriors.

It sounds like Jordan decided that he never wanted to shoot 3,000 free throws in a day ever again.

Default Undue Influence

Good Ramona Shelburne article here about the back-and-forth:

Deandre Jordan's Round Trip: ...

Very ironic malapropism too:

For years, teams and rival agents have griped about the friendship between Cuban and Fegan. Accusations and rumors of undo influence fly every time they do a deal together.

Great article. Once again, none of my personal qualms have to do with Jordan changing his mind. It's a big decision that he wanted to think about and at the end of the day wanted to stay a Clipper. Fine, sucks that we're royally screwed in free agency, but fine, it is his choice.

What is absolutely inexcusable is completely ignoring the owner you just pledged to play for. That won't be forgiven or forgotten. All he had to do was call Mark Cuban and say he was sorry he gave his word, but he had to return to the Clippers. That call or non call I should say is exactly why people are so, so pissed. At 26, if you don't know how to be an adult, then you'll never be one. And guess what? Talented athletes like these guys don't have to be adults. They just don't. They show up and play basketball...that is their job. That's why we all love Dirk because he is the consummate professional. Jordan will always be the third wheel, and that is what he wants deep down. He wants to be the immature guy that doesn't have any responsibilities...like making a simple phone call.

I honestly think Cuban's plan B was to go into complete rebuild mode if Jordan wouldn't have originally committed.
That BS Jordan pulled completely changed Cuban's way of thinking imo.

This is a pretty realistic take, although I think that a lot of 26-year olds might be challenged with adult-type decisions of this magnitude. But an intellectually (1 year of college) and emotionally immature (7 years of NBA coddling) 26-year old multi-millionaire who's the hot free agent property of the year? Much less chance.

And John Lucas seemed to know something was up. A little surprised, to be honest, that the Mavs weren't better plugged into Jordan's non-Clips network.

You're totally right about Mavs' fans being spoiled by Dirk, and thinking that all NBA players will be as upfront and stand-up as Dirk. Both Mavs' fans and Mavs' management would do well not to make that assumption in future.

Rondo: "Life is about handling adversity and I've dealt with a little bit of adversity this past season."

What adversity? You just quit, plain and simple. I see no diversity in that. You decided to take the rest of the season off and didn't want to play.
