They take advantage of Nathan's struggles, walking twice to load the bases...except they don't, because ball 4 to Davis is called a strike despite being a good inch and a half out of the strike, ending the game.
I hate baseball right now.

according to pitchfx it was a good 6 and a half inches outside.

Millwood continues to have games blown for him. Just another gut wrenching loss. Bases loaded and no outs and we can't score. Boston won and the Angels are leading. This is like a slow painful death. We need to maul the Jays, bad.

Down 11 in the 5th. Ugh.
I've come to determine this 2009 Rangers team is just not good in close game situations. Of course they win some, but one run/two run/three run games are this team's weakness. Considering the team's youth, I guess its not too surprising.
Here's the close games from this month:
8/3 - Loss to Oakland, CJ blows the save
8/5 - Loss to Oakland, offense ties the game in the 6th, pitching gives up the lead in the bottom of the inning.
8/8 - Loss vs LAA, Millwood and Eddie give up homers to give the Angels the lead
8/14 - The Frankie Meltdown
8/19 - Lose 6-5, giving up 4 in the 6th
8/21-22 - First 2 games in the Tampa series, by a total of 3 runs. Including Grilli giving up the game winner.
8/28 - First game vs Minnesota...tough call on the Davis strikeout but still couldn't quite win it
8/30 - Last night. Loaded the bases in the 9th, no ones. How many runs did we score again?
I know you can easily go find about the same number of close games we won, but that's exactly my point. Good teams win close games. Not 50% of the time, instead more like 75-80%. We don't do that, at least this August we haven't. And if this is how the team performs in close games...win half, lose half...they ain't ever going to win nothing.

Holy crap are you kidding?
I just wrote a 10 minute post about how this team has no resiliency and how they had no shot of making the playoffs...

No joke. lol
play-by-play of the Rangers' 5th inning:
David Murphy single
Taylor Teagarden single
Chris Davis single...Murphy scores (11-1)
Elvis Andrus FC; Teagarden to 3rd
Ian Kinsler triple...Teagarden, Andrus score (11-3)
Michael Young sac fly...Kinsler scores (11-4)
Josh Hamilton infield single (line drive off pitcher lol)
Marlon Byrd single
Nelson Cruz HR...Hamilton, Bryd score (11-7)
David Murphy strikeout

its not. Its just like in basketball, good teams blow people out, close games are mostly luck though how good a teams bullpen is does factor in to there record in close games. Then again a bullpen is largely based on luck too.

Yeah that's what I was thinking. They just absolutely, positively don't deserve it. Because they're weak.

well, in my little fantasy world it's true
However, it always seems like the Yankees, the Red Sox and the angels win a majority of their close games. I guess part of it is they have good late inning relief pitching. As we've seen, the Rangers have struggled greatly w/ that this past month. But other times, our offense cannot score late. Any chance LAA, NYY or Boston doesn't score at least 1 if they loaded the bases, no outs, even against Nathan?

What was the problem here ? To strong batters or did the Texan pitchers fail ?

If that Davis shot would have been a couple of feet deeper, Grilli never enters the game.. strop never enters the game..
Baseball truly is a game of inches.
Holland has reverted back to throwing alot of pitches right down the middle again.. That has been the case the past three starts even though one of the starts was a quality start.

pretty much all of feliz's stints have been ridiculous. hes pretty much the best reliever in baseball. Hes been worth 1.1 war in 19.2 innings which is effing ridiculous. For reference thats the 26th highest total in baseball for a reliever and everyone above him has WAY more ip.

What Feliz is doing right now is going largely unnoticed by the media and casual Ranger fan. It's freaking ridiculous what he's done so far.
