King Felix did us a favor and completely shut down the Angels tonight. 8 innings, and he allowed only 4 hits in a shutout. Good job, Mariners! And the Rays are holding a 5-3 lead on the Red Sox. With the Rangers ahead now, this has the potential to a good night.

Rangers win
Angels lose
Red Sox lose
What a great day. We have gained 2.5 games on the Angels in two days. I'm not ready to stop believing!!

If they can somehow just hang on for a while, and LAA doesn't go nuts...they will get their chance at the Angels.

As much as CJ's inconsistency kills me.......Dang he looked good last night.
What is up with Frankie -- why hasn't his velocity returned? He still seems to be holding 93 instead of his usual 96-97.

The Ballpark gun is slow. I don't know why the TV guys don't mention it more, but Nadel mentions just about every game that our gun is 2-3 mph slow, typically.
I think Frankie's been fine.

So you're saying Feliz's 101 was actually 104?

I don't know if it's consistently slow or just generally slow. I just know that I notice the numbers being lower at home on a regular basis, and Nadel mentions the slow gun all the time.

I considered that, but Feliz's #'s kind of dispute it. Also, Frankie just seems to be throwing a few slower. Batters are catching up to it easier than they did. He is pitching fine, but he doesn't seem to have that reach back and throw it by batters anymore -- that he did in the past.

A new ace on the diamond?
Feldman gets a road start tomorrow. Texas is 11-1 overall when Feldman starts a road game.

Has Feliz ever hit over 98 at the BPiA? Highest I remember him hitting was 97-98, maybe 99.
I know he's hit 101 -- he's done it in two or three different games -- but weren't they all road games?
It does seem like all of Feliz's low fastball velocity games (92-95 on his normal fastball on that day) came in the Ballpark. That would put his fastball at minimum in the 94-96 range, and for a power pitcher, that'd make more sense. And when Feliz did try to ramp the fastball up, as a strikeout pitch usually, it'd be more of a 99-100 velocity in contrast with his 94-96 mph fastball he had been throwing.
One quick thing about Feliz that I loved to hear: I believe there a Feliz quote where he said that he could hit 100 whenever he wanted. That's just cool.

Rangers get a pitching prospect from Kansas City.
He was ranked the 7th best prospect in the KC organization, so in the Ranger system, he's likely top 15 in the Rangers system.
Had some injury problems this year, but in the 12 or so innings he did pitch he was dominant. Apparently has a plus, if not plus plus, curveball. Fastball improved over the course of the 2008 season, 90-95 mph. Also a changeup.
Pina would have been Rule 5 eligible, so he's a lose we were likely going to have anyway. Tim Smith is a fringe prospect, outfielder with a decent bat. Not a big loss to give up for a player who has potetial like this guy appears to have.

I believe he hit 99-100 in one of his first couple of games at TBiA.

Yep, I believe Smith was probably behind Moreland (1st base and OF) and Gentry.. and that's not even mentioning the guys that they have under control for awhile that have played in the majors in Hamilton, Borbon, Murphy, and Cruz.. and I suppose Boggs.

What's up with slow guns versus fast guns? This stuff would seem to be pretty standard.

Kinda defeats purpose doesn't it? They should be called accurate guns and inaccurate guns.

Josh and Michael out of the lineup, and the team stakes Millwood to a three run lead right off the bat against a pretty good young pitcher.
You absolutely have to make that stand up.

I'd love to see Vizquel playing against lefties. I think Vizquel would like to play another year..just not sure if he wants to come back and play for a team managed by RWashington.

I go back and forth on Wash so much. His players love him and play hard for him. Obviously, that's important. By good grief his lineup and in-game decisions just murder me.
Salty DH'd against a lefty last night after being out for weeks. Salty's historically hit better and for more power from the left side. I realize we don't have a whole lot of great options for DHing against lefties, but Salty? Really?
And today, Blalock is 1. playing and 2. hitting fifth and 3. hitting ahead of Cruz. FIFTH! Arg!
Davis comes back from the minors and shows that his approach may be changing, and he can't get out of the 7th or 8th slot. But Blalock, being the veteran can absolutely positively suck the life out of every fan from the all star break on and still hit fifth when he plays.
Uggggggggggggg.

This is the kind of shit that kills their chances. We seem to play to the level of the competition every series.
And there are a couple of starting pitchers who have officially sucked their last 3-4 appearances.

Young out of the lineup really takes a spark out of the offense. We need in back and healthy soon.

Rain.
I'm sick as a dog. I really need a Ranger win today. The last thing I need is a rainout.
