Great deal IMO. Love the fact that Kyrie has a P.O. for year 3. I think we will get him on his best behavior for two years while he has an eye on another pay day.

Why would we need a FA PF when we getting Siakam?

Not much left. I would imagine Celtics are willing to let Grant Williams walk after the KP extension. I hope anyways.

This has to mean THJ is gone right? I can't see where the minutes are with him now that Seth is back and Hardy on the rise.

Tim MacMahon
@espn_macmahon
Sources: The Mavericks used their $4-plus million biannual exception on Seth Curry, a 43.5% career 3-point shooter returning for his third stint in Dallas.

Hell yeah! Will be nice to have a knockdown shooter. Now ship THJ and McGee out. SnT for Wood would be a huge bonus.

I'm not trading a 1st unless I'm getting someone very, very good. Like, makes us immediate title contenders good.

What you define as a player that makes us instant title contenders?

A player that makes us instant title contenders... I felt like it's self explanatory?
All-star or all-nba level talent at a position of particular need. I.e. no simple role players who just fill out the roster.

You said you agree, but you want a solid starter. Spiral said All-NBA caliber player. Those are 2 very different things.

We disagree. I don?t need All-nba player. I need better players than bullock/thj. One needs go and I?d be willing to include 1st as long can package one them with mcgee - also I need have cap space next year for another max level player to add. So I need clear bad contracts.

I mean can you give me a name of someone who's a "solid starter" but not an all-star or all-nba level guy that you'd give up a FRP for?
Let me put it this way. I'm not comfortable giving up a FRP for Ayton. Gun to my head I might do it, but I have to really, really think about it.
The new CBA is flat out draconian. Draft picks are going to be more important and more valuable than ever. So if we trade picks away, it better be for major upgrades, not marginal ones.

Siakam from raptors? Don?t know his contract - but I need better starting sf that actually plays d and can rebound

As much as I love Seth Curry I feel like this team needed more of a defender at that guard position.
Dennis Smith JR made so much more sense with the 3 weak defenders we already have at guard in Luka, Kyrie and Hardy.
This team has no one who can stay in front of people.
Really wanted Brown but that contract was totally unexpected.
Kelly Oubre might be a sleeper guy to add up front because he's a strong wing with some defensive ability.
Thybuile makes sense but he's not a pf type

I agree that Curry doesn't help us that much at this point, but we got him on the cheap, so I can't really complain. Plus we can only assume that the Mavs are still shopping THJ hard, so if THJ is gone next season, then we actually could really use a 3 point sniper off the bench.

Yeah, I always like Oubre and never got the hate. But we so badly need rebounding and defense and that just isn't his forte.
First thing is to get a starting center that averages 9-10 rebounds a game and then a defensive wing.

Agreed, but at this point, I don't feel like the Mavs have the assets to get both of those things. We might not even get one, because it seems all the valuable role players who fit those roles are quickly becoming unavailable. Nothing could happen until we got Kyrie re-signed, so hopefully with that out of the way, Nico can work some more magic.

Thoughts on day 1:
1) Kyrie - He might not be the answer, but he's an incredible talent and our best chance at getting somewhere in the playoffs and keeping Luka. They were two awesome stars last year, but have the potential to be something unstoppable if they play together/off each other which we will see next year like we saw flashes of. We got him on a short deal that also potentially gave us the full MLE. Total win. Grade: A
2) Seth - I LOVE Seth. He's a great person and a cool player. He was such a good sport last time we had him, but last time we just asked him to do way too much. This time I'm excited to see what he does with a lesser role. Luka likes him and Kyrie loves him. Great price for him too with only the BAE used which means we still potentially have the MLE. He can play some PG (about 25% of his minutes last year were at point) BUT BUT BUT, he's a great 10-15th piece and a terrible 5th-9th piece. I also worry that he will stifle Hardy rather than provide insurance for him and we still have a huge hole at 4/5. Grade: too early to tell. A if we aren't done. C- if that is it.
Tomorrow/future - issues to work on:
1) Centers: too many oddly fitting pieces with Holmes, Kleber, McGee, Lively, and potentially Powell. You can't have five second/third stringers and no starters. Lively could be the next Hakeem and average 20-12-3-1in his first season, but 99.9% of centers since Hakeem have taken 2-6 seasons to get to even half of what he was. Lively could surprise us all, but statistically, it's a bad bet to bet on him playing 35 fruitful minutes in his rookie year.
2) Non-lead guards: Kyrie/Seth/Luka can all play PG (and maybe Green/Hardy for a bit), BUT Kyrie/Seth/Hardy/Green/THJ/Bullock is WAY too much depth at 2/undersized 3. It seems like a good problem to have, but guys get cold without consistent minutes/FGA and young guys like Green/Hardy need time to develop. Curry is a chill, professional dude who is happy to get a DNP one game and go 4-5 from three in the next, but we still have larger issues to address and only so many FGA to go around.
3) PF: We have two guys above 6'7" that aren't centers: 1) OMax and 2) Kleber. OMax might be too young to consistently contribute. Kleber is a 4/5 and may be too unathletic post-injury and at his age. Sure, OMax may be the rare guy that hits the ground running in our first regular season game and Kleber could easily be back to 100% with an offseason to fully rehab the injury (Powell took a whole year), but there are way too many question marks. Even fully healthy, you want at least a third guy who can fill in.
