Yep, he had 4+ fouls in 18 out of 35 games played... He definitely needs to work on his discipline, but he's the youngest player in the draft so it's probably something that's going to come naturally with age/experience.

My first 3 clicks were:
4th
1st
5th
So basically we are a lock for 3rd pick.

Giving the odds, staying at #3 would be allready a success.
And please dont let the Lakers pick jump into the Top-3. The last thing the NBA need is Philly (#1) or Boston (#2 or #3) with a high pick in this draft...

I like JJJ but he doesn't seem very "sudden" to me. A stiff athlete- like Ibaka. His body needs work. I mean he already has better handles than Serge ever has, which is encouraging. Maybe he is something like a cross between Ibaka and Horford? More playmaking than Ibaka, better rim protection than Horford, but without the passing.

Mavs were the third worst team in points scored per game in the league this past season. Don’t overthink this pick. Take Doncic, Bagley, or Ayton and start putting pressure on opposing defenses and dictating the pace of the game.

We were 30th in rebounding rate(again). I'm so tired of being the worst rebounding team in existence. And yeah I expected us to make a jump in pace with the addition of DSJ. We went from 2nd slowest to 4th slowest(yay.....). They absolutely have to pick that up, we can have wishful thinking that with all the close games our team isnt as bad as the record indicates. But without a top defense we can't be slow and bad defensively. Just take whoever the best player is on their board. I can live with literally anyone we have talked about as top 7 for a while now(Ayton, Doncic, Bamba, Porter, JJJ, Bagley, Bridges). Because we suck in a lot of areas.

Fair point BW. Really can’t go wrong although I will say everyone but Mikal Bridges seems to have some “bust” potential.

We can deal with being slow and not so good at rebounding after Dirk retires.

I mean, pretty much everybody we're looking at in this draft is good at rebounding, especially when you consider position, but I think all of the bigs have 10 RPG potential... And pretty much everybody can score. You're more likely to get 20 PPG potential with Ayton/Doncic/Bagley/Porter, but even Bamba/Bridges/Jackson can give you 10-15 PPG, if not more eventually... So the biggest difference is defense, which Bamba/Bridges/Jackson are strongest at, but I don't see why Ayton/Bagley/Porter can't improve in that area, as they each have the physical attributes in place, they just need fine-tuning. Really the only player I have defensive concerns about is Doncic -- I don't think he'll ever be quick enough to hang with guards, but I suppose there's always a possibility that he grows a bit taller, puts some weight on, and learns how to guard forwards.
Basically what I'm saying is that any of these guys look like they could be an all-around stud if they're developed properly... Seems like the real test is going to be in Carlisle's ability to coach them up.

So...in 2019? 2020? 2021?
Love Dirk, but we've got a roster that should be running, but Rick forces us to play halfcourt so Dirk can keep up. With a guy with the athleticism of Dennis Smith, we should be pushing it all 94 feet. As much as people hate Powell, the dude runs it well and that leads to a lot of free oops and runouts. Barnes is good on the break as well. We're also looking at drafting Bamba, Jackson Jr., Porter Jr., or Bagley, or Bridges-- all of whom are built to run.
Really hope we pick up the pace next season-- until we realize that we're not making the playoffs. Then I hope we hamstring ourselves again by forcing a run-first team to slow it down.

Lol. Yall have talked me off the ledge on Bamba. I'll be happy. I'll even be happy with mpj, back issues or not. No risk no reward.

Dirk doesn't need to start. Delay his pregame routine if necessary. If we have cutting edge training staff, prove it And figure it out. Powell can start next instead.
Dirk and wes off the Bench..let's go

Well...with yesterday everyone knows again there is no need to rush the rebuild anyway.
Thanks again Kevin for choosing the "hardest road"

Part of our problem in rebounding is having stretch 4/5s that are sitting outside instead of rebounding which is true on both offense and defense. Just getting a traditional center like Ayton will help, but rebounding really needs to become a team effort. Moving HB to SF might help since he won't be battling bigger PFs for position. But we need positions 1-4 all making a much more concerted effort on the boards. I think DSJ has showed some of that already.

Well it's also by Rick's design that players run back immediately on defense. He has had such schemes since his Detroit days when only Ben Wallace would be grabbing the boards.
So having a center do all of the rebounding will help the team and give the center great rebounding numbers, but you're right, something with that scheme still needs to be altered. You can't always have one guy fighting 4 guys for an offensive rebound.

Mostly agree, but I also think that there are multiple ways to address the issue other than just acquiring a skilled rebounder.
Our offense was so bad that teams would just swarm for the rebound, because had very few dynamic players so other than Smith. Teams would largely be setup exactly how they wanted to be to secure the rebound which made getting a board harder for us. Having a more dynamic offense would help some of that. Often our offense would end up with four and sometimes all five of our players attempting to spread the floor-- with no player closer to the basket than 15 feet. It's hard to secure rebounds if everyone is outside. It's amazing what sending one guy under the screen or having a guy run the baseline can do for rebounding.
Having more versatile or skilled defensive players would also help, because Rick was so scared that we'd fail in transition that he constantly sent all five guys back after a shot attempt. You can't get an offensive board if your players are all racing back to defend.
Anyway, I think you are correct-- we need to work on rebounding, but there are just multiple ways to either fix, address, or hide that weakness so we shouldn't feel obligated to draft a guy like Ayton to address rebounding when a guy like Doncic or Bridges could also elevate our team play and make our rebounding issues less apparent.

Tankathon loves me. I get 2nd about half the time with a few 1st.
Then again, I'm cursed in real life, so the fact that I get mostly 2nd means we'll most likely draft 6th

When is the 2018 Lottery?
When: Tuesday, 7:30 p.m. ET (6:30 in Dallas)
Where: Palmer House Hilton in Chicago
TV channel: ESPN
Stream: WatchESPN
Probably not enough content to warrant an entire thread, but lottery talk should be fun.
