I'm not sure you can just bunch all of those players together. A few of them are just under tier 1 status like Parsons. Parsons and Stephenson still have the potential to be stars.

They have no chance of acquiring him if they don't overpay him. They see potential that they hope Utah doesn't. A team like Charlotte has to take risks to improve. They can't try to be a destination, and just sign value contracts. Rick Carlisle isn't going to coach for them.

I really think you have to take last seasons numbers with a grain of salt. He was put into a situation where he was going to fail, and he failed mightily. Is he worth 15.5 mill per? I would say most likely no, but with the ever evolving salary cap its hard to really say with any kind of certainty. I had him valued somewhere around 12 million, and def. worth more than Deng or Ariza.

@sam_amick: While Houston Rockets wait for a decision from Chris Bosh on max offer, I'm told they reached out to Luol Deng's camp again today.

Their fans on clutchfans are suggesting that Deng would play the 4 w/Parsons at the 3. Yikes.

Seems every team with space has reached out to every free agent by now. Not really news hearing Houston is interested in Deng.

@woj: Communication flowing between Chris Bosh camp and Rockets today, preparing for landing spot should LeBron James leave, sources tell Yahoo.
How long before the Southwest Division will get a seeding advantage in the West?

Hmmmmmmm
No word on contingency plans for Dwayne Wade if Lebron leaves the Heat. Mav's are always the quietest organization when it comes to free agents. Could the Mavs be talking to Wade?

Amick reporting that Mavs are ready to give him max level offer sheet. Hopefully LeBron makes his decision soon.
We must have trades in the works for Felton and Wright.

@woj: Carmelo Anthony hadn't been a part of any scenario about joining James in Miami, sources tell Yahoo. @FisolaNYDN reports he's staying in NY.
@woj: Within Anthony's circle, belief's been this, sources tell Y: Get NY's $129M now, figure out destination later. You can always get a trade.
@woj: Several days ago -- and maybe it's changed since but... -- 'Melo hadn't even been able to reach LeBron James, sources tell Yahoo.

Sorry, but no. Wade hates the Mavs/Dirk and Dirk hates the Heat/Wade... it just wouldn't work. And shooting guard is one of two postions that we really don't need, especially for the kind of money he'll be asking for.

Ready to give Parsons a max offer? (just making sure so we don't get confused)

Oh dear, not LeBron again. Supposedly LeBron's agent said he wanted to come back to Cleveland. Then LeBron met with Riley and it might have changed his mind. Now we're back in the mix?
Just sign an SF and move on. We're at 2nd and 6. We don't need to call a hail mary play.

Thing is, no one of our targets will sign before LeBron.
So it's going to be the waiting game for everyone.

Woj reporting that Mike Miller's going to get $4-4.5MM/yr. Mike Miller? That much? I feel like his knees are going to fall off any second.

This is why there's no need for anyone to get impatient yet... Nobody can even sign a contract until 11:01 PM (central) tonight.

I had said that teams were going to be spending big this summer, but I had no idea it was going to be like this. I just feel sorry for any team that would seriously give Mike Miller 4.5 mil a year. I suppose two years would be OK, but good god.

If Mike Miller is worth almost $5MM/yr, maybe Pierce isn't as crazy as I thought wanting $9MM/yr. Ariza seems like a steal given these supposed market values of lesser players.

My understanding is that Frank Isola has a pretty solid track record.

Looks like Melo's official desicion to go back to NY will be made tomorrow... so the wait continues. Lebron just about to meet with Pat Riley now, and I wonder if he'll meet w/ Dan Gilbert and the Cavs.... If so, his decision probably won't come until the weekend... which means the Mavs will wait til then... ugggh

Keep in mind that the new CBA also raised team minimum salary from 85% of the salary cap to 90%, so teams are forced to spend more now. Basically, they are going to have to pay someone even if it is overpay.

I was just about to make a new thread on this .
If we get him, that means Marion is gone.

Well, even if they dont match (dont see this happen)...okay, we probably overpaid Parsons 3-4m a year but we have our SF for the last Dirk years. Three years is also better than 4y 60m because it expires with Dirk...

I wonder why three years and not four? Not that I'm complaining. I'd love to have Parsons.

Not going to lie, i'm torn about this. Parsons is a good player, a borderline all-star, but 15 millions? That is definitely overpay. On the other hand, i guess it doesn't really matter from a team construction standpoint, because even if he would have signed for 11 millions per year, we still couldn't have afford Stephenson or another quality FA... Am i right? Where do we stand with our cap if the Rockets doesn't match and Dirk signs for 9-10? I guess that's all of our cap space.

Pretty much offered all of our remaining cap space for him in theory, but without the nitty-gritty of the deal (and Dirk's), we won't know until the details come out. When Asik/Lin were signed, they actually had a pretty reasonable year 1/2 on their contract, before ballooning into an albatross.
And yes, we couldn't have gotten any of the A or B-level FAs had we offered 11mill, so he doesn't cost us guys like Stephenson as much as guys like Marion/Carter/Hinrich-- in other words, C/D-level FAs.
Still, I'm betting that Houston matches, which means that the ROCKETS will overpay. That, or we'll get one of the top-4 SF FAs other than the allstars who we didn't have a chance at. Not that bad of a move, honestly. Unused cap space is worthless without a player so you might as well use it. If we lose, hopefully we'll still be able to get a guy like Ariza while forcing the Rockets to overpay.

15 million is a lot of cash. I am good with this, but I am interested to see how the rest of our roster shapes out. If we have plans with Wright etc.
Personally I would of liked to see us try Stephenson for around 10 million, but Parsons is probably the better fit.
