The 2 teams perceived to have tanked the hardest at the end were Memphis and Dallas. At least when I went around fan forums the 2 teams talked about most were Dallas and Memphis. And somehow both got the biggest shaft. Total coincidence I'm sure in the year before lotto reform.

No one cares in Atlanta about the Hawks. Even when they won 60 RS games

I agree. Except when I consider the Kings are picking 2nd. And 5 things I am certain of in life. Death, Taxes, Dirk one legger, Witten Y option, and Kings screw everything up.

@MavSlander: Dont you all worry, the Mavs will be back at the lottery next year so that the NBA can fuck us up again.

I'm perfectly happy with Bamba though. In fact, I feel like it was mean't to be to finally have the defensive anchor the Mavs sorely need.

Aside from Ayton, there was zero consensus from any of us on who we should draft. There is a strong argument for anyone 2-5. Sure drafting 5 takes it out of our hands, but understand that there is incredible upside to each of these prospects.
We are going to get someone with All Star potential at the 4/5 position in the deepest 4/5 position draft in a long time. All is good. Let's enjoy the process.

Nah, we're in a position to suck again... And I'm not interesting in sitting through another season of this bullshit if a rigged lottery is my reward for it.

Exactly and it's almost guaranteed to be a defensive big man in JJJ or Bamba. I called it that everyone was going to freak out. It might be rigged, but we're not exactly left with scraps.
Remember last draft the number 1 pick lost his mind and we got DSJ. It'll be ok.

Tanking and sucking isnt so rewarding anymore next season:
https://www.theringer.com/nba/2017/9...-reform-passes
I generally hate this draft system were sucking actually gets rewarded. Relegation to minor leagues is much more exciting (like in european soccer) but of course this system wont work in the USA

So there interesting thing about these teams is
1. Suns
2. Kings
3. Hawks
4 - Grizzlies
So for me I disliked Doncic as a top 3 pick.......but he's a easier pill to swallow at the 5th pick but I think one of the teams ahead of us will pick him.
But I can live with Porter, Bamba, Ayton, Bagley, Doncic or Jaren Jackson. But I hope Porter is the pick though I have a strong feeling Kings might select him.

no way in hell Vlade and Peja are picking Porter over Doncic.
Doncic is gone for sure after the Kings pick.

Yeah, but it would have been nice to "win" something after the season we just suffered through...
I like Bamba and JJJ, but they're both projects, while guys like Ayton, Doncic or Bagley would have gone a long way in luring FAs to Dallas this summer. Now it's pretty much guaranteed that Dirk will never return to the playoffs... Sucks for him, sucks for us.

And then who you pick as your rim protecting center? Randle?
Na, draft Bamba or JJJ and then throw the max at Aaron Gordon, he has also really good defensive potential.
And with Porter available the Magic may go there BPA to pair him with Isaac. Remember the Magic switched their entire FO, the guys who drafted Gordon arent there anymore.

Draftexpress has this now:
Ayton
Doncic
Bagley
JJJ
Baba
Yeah i really think there wont be big surprises. Maybe the Grizz go Porter when the Hawks take Bagley, pretty much replacing that they planned with Parsons

Grizz are in win now and JJJ is one of the biggest projects and plays Gasols position.
Well who knows...maybe they take JJJ just to trade him for a win now player.

Just watched the lottery. Bullshit! Tough to think I sat through that terrible season for the 5th pick. Give me Bamba or MPJ.

I was under the impression JJJ was more of a 4 tbh

JJJ is going to end up as a modern 5
If the Mavs are high on Bamba they should tell him to tank the workout with the Hawks.

@DraftExpress
Atlanta will likely gladly "settle" for whoever is left for them between Luka Doncic and Marvin Bagley. We've been hearing for a while now they are very high on Bagley in particular. Trae Young would have likely gotten a strong look had they landed outside of the top three.
|
Yeah looks like the top-3 picks are set in stone.
Wondering what the Grizz are going to do. I could definatly see them trade the pick, maybe with Boston and Boston picking their center of the future. Or they are going for Porter.

Bol Bol or Daniel Gafford... We're gonna be picking high again next season, and I like Porter better than Zion.

I'm fine with all of them. I'm more worried about what we spend our money on. I'm afraid we throw max money at people we shouldn't and cap out only to compete for 7-10 seed for the next 3 years.

Just to make everyone feel better, JJJ and Bamba really aren't this year's Frank Ntilikina.
Frank was a physical specimen who proved almost nothing overseas worth talking about. His potential was 100% predicted on his length and size.
JJJ and Bamba are two reasonably groomed college products that provided big games on big stages against big college teams.
So they may be raw, but they aren't completely unproven like Frank and Giannis were before being drafted. There is more to go on with them.

in 2019 Wes and Barea expire for over 20m. Powell has a 10m player option, maybe he is looking for a longterm contract and opt out. Or we trade him as an expiring to a tank team. Should be doable.
So even handing out this year a max contract, we should be able to hand one out in 2019 too. And thats the last summer where the cap is really rare in the NBA (2020 all the contracts from the idiot 2016 summer expire).
So we really have to use our cap this and next summer. Adding a solid piece now makes us also look better in the 2019 FA.
Tanking isnt worthy anymore with the new lottery odds

IMO Julis Randle is the only realistic RFA. Gordon and Capela are getting matched. Is anyone really excited about handing a max contract to Randle.

I'm not really excited about anyone in free agency, at least at the high end, if I'm being honest. Perhaps we should move that discussion to a different thread though.

@bobbykaralla: The NBA went to three All-NBA Teams starting in 1988-89. Since then, here's where those players were drafted.
