Don't know why anyone would blame Dirk for this one -- he was solid. Don't see any complaints about him in this thread, even... Why are you so insecure about criticisms aimed at Dirk, Andrew?

Wes is Tank Commander. that's why Rick plays him so much. Need a savvy vet to brick a few here and there to keep the team safely in the loss column.

Lol the tag of this thread.

Anyways... When JJ Barea is one of your best 2-3 players on a consistent nightly basis that just shows how bad this team is. I wouldn't call what DSJ did stat stuffing. He's trying to do too much at times because we suck. I'm not worried about bad habits though because he still is routinely passing to a wide open Wes even though he has to know it's time to run back on D as soon as he's made that pass.

@bobbykaralla: Dennis Smith Jr.'s last seven games: 19.6 pts on 41.1/37.0/87.5 splits, 5.1 reb, 3.9 ast, 3.9 tov. Come a long way, still room to improve.

He hit a three in the 4th quarter to bring the game within three points...twice. Nice that you glossed over that as if he only scored meaningless points. Cool.

Interesting game to watch. I'm enjoying watching Mejri play. I've always like him, his size, his shot blocking ability, good hands. Carlisle has pretty much wasted him on the bench the last several years. SMH who knew that it would only take a young, athletic, lottery pick to replace him in Rick's doghouse, so he'd finally get a chance to play? I'd laugh if it wasn't so pathetic.

Really do love DSJ’s game and he’s definitely reinvigorated my fandom. His decision making is very solid for a 19 year old. He needs to tighten his handle a little bit, be better about moving the ball sometimes, and have a better plan when his drives get cut off, but that really is nitpicking. He has made this season a joy to watch regardless or Dirk sucking, the RC/Noel situation, Wes dribbling, etc.

Curry is going to LOVE some of the looks from DSJ that others are clanking. Smith's assist numbers will slowly creep up, as will his efficiency.

Barnes simply had tough match ups tonight. That's kind of what happens when you're playing a little up at the 4. His shot was a little flat and short for the most part. Tough to have to get manhandled by Aldridge and come back to have to make the shots like it's a normal game.

Noel did not look good in his short run, but he also was hustling and showing an effort to get to screens, which are much better than our other bigs.

Dirk was solid.

Yeah, 10 points in the last 2:17 when the game was a couple of missed Spurs FTs away from being winnable shouldn't be overlooked... It was clutch time, not garbage time -- and he rose to the challenge. That kind of killer instinct is rare in rookies.

That's a pretty common problem with rookie PGs, even more common with PGs who are surrounded by unreliable shooters... He usually does the *right thing* by trying to kick it out to the open man, but if that open man keeps bricking, DSJ is gonna hesitate and try to force something against guys who are in position to stop him... It's a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" situation, which has to be frustrating for the kid (although he does a good job of hiding it with his ice-cold demeanor).

I will also say that Dennis is completely handcuffed from scoring in the first quarter. I know it's by design to help him with playmaking, but it's not entirely organic. I don't mind it this season, but hopefully he can switch from playmaking to scoring by himself as the situation sees fit. Just don't want it to become J-Ho where he scores in one half and not the other basically every game.

After facing the San Antonio Spurs for the first time in his career, Dennis Smith Jr. has earned the respect of Popovich and the franchise

https://thesmokingcuban.com/2017/11/...regg-popovich/

Quote:
“Thought he did a great job. He knocked down shots we didn’t think he was going to shoot,” Gregg Popovich told me after the game when I asked him about Smith Jr.’s play.

“He earned a lot of respect from us tonight for sure. It wasn’t just that he made shots, I thought he played pretty smart. He is obviously athletic, but I thought he played a pretty heady game and he was fun to watch.”
.
.
.
“Very talented kid. Very aggressive. Very good future ahead of him. The guy has all of the tools to be a dominant point guard in this league and be an elite point guard. Hopefully it works out for him,” Gasol said.

Actually thought last night was one of the best coached games I've seen for both sides. Obviously, we're extremely untalented other than Smith, Barea, and the occasional good run by Mejri, but it seemed well coached. Rick just needs more talent.

Totally agree. Playing Kleber on Gay was a classic Rick wizard move that he has done so many times in the past. And it reinforces that the Mavs are tanking because you know he could do stuff like that more often.

Maybe you're not him, maybe you're just a guy who uses his first post on a new forum to attack an established member (just like him), and attack anyone who criticizes Dirk in the slightest (just like him), and talk down to everybody in a superior tone (just like him), and display a bizarre hard-on for Goran Dragic (just like him), and bring up old posts that you disagree with just to throw them in a poster's face (just like him), and use biting phrases like "that's laughable" and "paranoid schizo much" (just like him), and choose to ignore all the other posts in this thread just so you can address the ONE post about you because you can't stand not being the center of attention (just like him).

Maybe you're not Andrew M. Henderson, maybe you're just some guy who shares all the same shitty traits as him... Then again, maybe you're not as smart as you think you are, Cadbane.

I don't know if this dude is Cadbane. Cadbane did know basketball and contributed solid insights but couldn't seem to get out of his own way. Hopefully GlowerPower won't succumb to similar pitfalls. We can use more quality posters around here.

Call me crazy but if someone accused me of being exactly like someone who everyone here can't stand my first response wouldn't be to call out other people as obsessed. Especially when clearly not one person has come to the defense of cadbane, except of course the one person who is exactly like him in every way but totally isn't him.

I blame you old-timer posters who are still here. Clearly u gave cadbane the equivalent of the best sex he's ever had cuz he just will not move on.

What I don't get is why he keeps coming back here just to get banned over and over again... He's a famous Hollywood writer now, shouldn't he be doing blow and violating 11-year-olds with his buddy, Tom Sizemore?

The thing he doesn't realize is that after his FIRST POST, several people PM'd me asking if he was Cadbane... Obviously I'm not the only one who can spot his shit from the get-go.

Hell, if he could act like a decent human being and stick to basketball instead of attacking other posters, he'd be able to post here indefinitely because none of us would even know it was him... But he just can't help himself from shitting in the punch bowl whenever he shows up to the party.
