So true. So true.
And in reality, he's probably happy to be going somewhere where (presumeably) he will play more. He said as much already.

I think that if J-Ho for Kaman was an option we'd be all over it but the LAC have little motivation to do it. They have Thornton who's arguably better.

This is where the GM's job gets tough. Do we deal Stack for an Earl Watson type or hold on in hopes of including him in a larger deal. Stack for Felton is a no brainer because of the buy low, upside factor. We know what Watson is. Steady, unspectacular, unselfish, solid borderline starting PG. Great backup for a playoff team. So we either get someone like Watson or include Stack in a larger deal w/ J-Ho or our pick. Probably leaning toward the latter. Wait and see if a big name becomes available. I wonder if we're actually done until this summer, current speculation aside. Maybe more big names become available when we can include a 1st rd. pick.

Watch Diop turn into the most improved player/borderline all-star next season. I don't know if I could take that.

Are you just exhibiting some of the most dry sarcasm of all time here, or are you not realizing that Carroll is the one getting his ass handed to him in that vid?
Just curious.

What ever happened to the Diop, of which Tony Parker thought he was being a major headache for the Spurs or something...

Very good move. Felton would've been nice, but getting rid of Diop's contract is a must. It's really mind-boggling that they actually gave him the full MLE in the first place, but whatever. Getting rid of an overpaid scrub is always a good thing.

whatever happened to all the Gerald Wallace talk...is there any real possibility he could end up in Dallas before the deadline?

Well, at least the Dallas FO can admit their mistake in signing Diop to an inflated contract - that's a step in the right direction (although this was probably the backup plan for 'Gana since day 1, given Charlotte's interest in him during the offseason...)

Yup, if you ask me, he looks like he can be a very good fast break player.
So, with another player needing to take an active spot each night, who's going to be inactive. As of late, its been Shawn Williams. Does GG go back? Hope not

As I have said before. I do not care about salaries. Mark can overpay or underpay -- as long as he puts a viable team that competes for the championship every year ---- I am happy.
This team right now will not contend. With this trade, (at this time), they still will not contend.
There needs to be a bigger splash coming.

I'm starting to lean that way also BUT...having really bad point guard play is tough. Think about if jet was the full-time point now. He'd be pressed the entire game.

I get that, but the Mavs' salary commitments have a directo impact on their chance to compete long term.
This move, indirectly, helps the Masvs win in the long term, *if* they use the saved money properly.

Those are flat-out unacceptable numbers for a defensive specialist.
The bottom line on this trade is that the Mavs gave up absolutely nothing of value, saved themselves a bit of money over the next few years, and if things work out, may have at least landed themselves a designated shooter off the bench and a 10 mpg backup center with some athleticism (something they've not had in a long time). If you're in any way upset with this trade, you're just looking for something to be pissed off about.
At the same time, if you're excited about it, you're delusional and should probably check to make sure you're not running a high fever.
|
Pretty sad when a dirk at center gives up less than diop..Even WORSE is giving up more with Bass at center. Yuck....
Rick really needs to stop playing Bass in the fourth...it ain't working brotha'.

You know, actually, the Mavs for the season are +36 in Bass' clutch minutes (from 82games). Not a big sample, looks to be a bit under 48 minutes worth of qualifying court time, but that's far from not working.
Interesting note for Felton fans, the Star Telegram article about the trade indicated that efforts to acquire Raymond were ongoing.

thats my favorite part of any article about this trade. This very well could be a two-parter.

Yup...I think you are correct. The same with all black players in the NBA. It's hard to tell a Felton from an Augustin from a Redd.
