I agree, Verlander definitely was not dominant in terms of control and placement. More importantly, F Verlander--the Rangers needs to get back into the W column.

if youre throwing 98 with movement you dont have to be super precise. Thats the point people always make when they tell people not to try to make perfect pitches.

You can't waste Millwood starts like that... Is all that optimism gone now?

nope. Still optimistic but this is why this team is a year away from really being ready. There will be ups and downs.

Bingo. The only real reason for optimism for this season is the possibility of a weak division.
Very frustrating to see CJ do that today. I was convinced that he was going to have a huge retrenching year after being hurt of all this year, but he sure hasn't looked good since opening day.
If CJ can't be a consistent setup guy this bullpen is absolutely horrible. It's pretty bad even if CJ does step up.

Pads will trade you Walter Silva for Josh hamilton, helping both sides, kind of like that Adam Eaton/ Adrian Gonzalez deal.

I'm still optimistic.
There's 156 freaking games left!
But I'm disappointed, for sure.

Maybe we should trade Josh for your GM...obviously, he can evalute talent better than Jon Daniels can

Loved the game last night, oh so close. Young was just a few feet short.

No one gives a crap about the Padres in the Rangers thread.
But yeah, CJ Wilson is garbage. He was garbage last year and he'll continue to be garbage, regardless of whatever excuse we use to try to explain away his struggles.
But if we don't get more from the starting pitchers, it's going to be a longggg year.

Padilla needs to take a bath.
CJ is a midget.
Leaving the pitchers in so long when they are sucking is not cool.

Note to Ron Washingtin: I realize you have limited options in the bullpen right now. And I realize it's not really about this season anyway (although it needs to be about this month if you want to keep your job). But dude, Eddie Guardado is done, and is only suited to be a LOOGY, at best, at this point.

the problem is who in the pen can you trust aside from ff??? jennings and feldman maybe? We have to continue to rely on cj. The only other option and one i abhor btw is bringing up feliz and or holland to sure up the pen which is a terrible idea at this point. If we can hang around in the race until the all star break maybe bring holland up to replace benson and feliz up to be a dominant set up man and move cj down one more rung.
I would really like to see what diamond and maybe bannister could do though. They cant be any worse.

Eyre will be up within the week, I think. Whether he will help is another question altogether.
I think Diamond and maybe even Moscosco are in the pen before the all star break.
Oh, and if the question is what do you do last night to save your bullpen, you don't freaking pull your pitcher when he's at 92 pitches and throwing a pretty nice game. And that's not hindsight, I was yelling at the tv when that happened. Makes no sense.

no that question was in general. I had the same question. In a season of "pushing the pitchers" why pull him there?

I think Ron is feeling the pressure of Nolan as far as pitching is concerned, like a boss over your shoulders. I think if they have any intentions of letting Ron go soon they need really be committed to let him manage the team his way. So they can justify firing him fully. I'm not convinced that is whats happening currently.

If that were the case then he would be leaving starters in longer, not taking them out after 92 pitches in six innings.

Oh I have love. I was at the Mavs' game though so I didn't see it.
It was also nice to seen Benson turn things around after two innings and save the bullpen.
And Eyre pitched well in his debut.
I hope they play well this weekend. They're facing three pretty good starters during "Red Out Weekend" which is going to bring a lot of fans to the ballpark. Hope they can build up some better momentum while people are actually at the stadium.

Geez what a busy night. I'm trying to keep an eye on the Portland game last night after the Mavs game...watch Canucks/Blues, and I'm piecing LOST together during the intermissions... then I see that Kinsler was 6 for 6 and hit the cycle. Holy crap.

Last night was pretty busy...
Between flipping from CNN to FoxNEWS and back for the Tea Party coverage...updates on the Ranger channel...and then DVR rewind of the Mavs game...all of which was GREAT STUFF to watch!!!
Nice to see the Mavs get to 50 wins for the 9th season in a row...sad to see that the Mavs are the only team with such a record and to not only not have multiple titles, but they don't even have one...even more proof that Stern is standing in the way of Greatness for Dallas...but like most, I keep watching.
As for the Rangers, I missed Nellie's Grand Slam, but watched live when he almost got his second. 5 HR's in 9 games...is this truly a breakout year for him? Also got to see Kinsler's Triple...Ian is perhaps MR. Ranger!!!
This Ranger team is reminding me of the Stars before they won the cup...some pretty key players in place, one final developmental year...then bam 2010...That is the Rangers YEAR!!!
As for the Tea Party...good stuff, great to see people voicing in a peaceful way...class and dignity. Too bad the Elite Left is as biased as they are, they had some good stories to report, but they chose to make a mockery of American Citizens.

Great night for the rangers last night, but geez...Hamilton is killing me with the first pitch swings. Andrus was great and Byrd was incredible. Cruz...jesus, everything he hits goes at least 400 ft. And I can't say anthing about kinsler that hasn't already been said.

Perhaps McCarthy is the one exception to this... I can see it with how injury prone he has been the past couple of years. But I'll agree, I didn't like seeing him come out after 6 solid innings while throwing only 92 pitches.. I'm curious as to whether or not Nolan Ryan felt the same..

4 Rangers pitchers in the 12-3 loss to the previously .216 hitting Royals today. Not a one under 8.10 ERA
What gives, Nolan?

i know it wasnt a close game but why would you ever pinch hit for young with vizquel? The bases were loaded, a couple of big hits there and the rangers could have been back in the game...

Holy crap Derek Holland has been called up.
This makes me feel slightly better about choosing tonight to be the night I take the family to a Ranger game (a decision a made a a month ago, long before it was pegged for the Mavs' opening playoff game).
Man....I'm excited.
I'd just like to throw out the disclaimer that everyone please temper their expectations. Dude is young and started last season in A ball. Obviously the Rangers expect him to contribute (out of the bullpen for now) but let's not freak out if he struggles.

great anything to get the ball out of rupe or wilsons hand. However this does kind of scream of panic mode in arlington.

Actually, it is my opinion that they thought Holland was ready for the majors out of Spring Training...but, they didn't want to lose a year of service time, so they started him out in the minors.
This is making my baseball weenie vibrate like crazy.
