Heck, even if he's healthy it's probably over anyway. The only shred of hope we have is PG has looked like trash.

I was gonna say.....the only reason this game was even close was because of Paul George. Its like those guys didn't miss but him. Gotta give Doc credit. Going with Shamet at point gave them a nice boost. HE hit some big 3's.

You could say that but Clippers couldn't miss. No matter how great we were on offense they were better.

You could see this game coming a mile away. It's how the Mavs respond next game that will determine the series.

Big positives are KP and Seth Curry playing really well...esp Seth who I have little faith in when it comes to reliability.

I mean, this season is already a huge win. Everything here out is gravy.

We didn't put it together tonight. We are young and as much pressure that LA was probably feeling, we had to feel it too. Being faced with a chance to go up in a series vs a favorite, who we didn't beat all season is tough. KL is just a steady player and a solid leader.

Clippers are tough. Mavs can only hope to contain Kawhi. Shamet was their spark. I hope Luka is ok. I think Curry realized that he is a scorer. I hope his hot shooting continues. THJ started finding his shot in the end. I love the fact that the Mavs didn’t give up.

Problem with that is if you don't win the 1st game, you have to win 2 in a row somewhere along the way. Do they have it in them?

Probably not which is why I still picked the Clippers to win. Too many people were drinking the kool aid after last game. Just that fact that Mavs can hang with the Clips is really, really huge.

Maybe great isn't the word but they went on a streak of hitting some big time shots in the 3rd quarter.

Yeah and in the bubble with no home court.......you really want to get that 1st game. You basically set yourself up to have to win 4 out of 6 games. Very tough task.

You knew that Luka would be injured?

Because until Luka was injured I thought we had a real chance of making a comeback. We were only down 14 at the half - that's NOTHING to our offense when we are clicking

This wasn't a knockout punch like the Lakers and Bucks hit their opponents with. The Clippers just beat us. They had to play Leonard and George both almost 40 minutes to get the win

No kool aid involved. We can hang with the Clippers and I still think the Mavs will win in 7 (assuming Luka is ok)

Rick has to play MKG more in Game 4. Maxi is tired from guarding Kawhi and it's affecting Maxi's shooting.

Curry has to start next game.

It's time to let someone other than Kawhi beat them, and if that happens, hats off to them.

Very confident Luka will play game 4. His comments ("It's not that bad") and the fact that he was able to get back out there at all suggests he just rolled his ankle. Typically that feels sore and swollen for a couple of days.

You are right Maxi is working so hard defensively that is taking away from his offense but I'm scared as hell that RC is going to go small and then it's over for us because as I mentioned early we really don't have anyone besides Maxi who can defend Leonard to a certain extent.

I found this quote over at ESPN and it does support the decision to use Maxi on Leonard

"It's asking a lot of a power forward such as Kleber to chase a go-to guy like Leonard who is so smooth off the dribble. All things considered, Kleber has actually done a decent job. Leonard has scored 48 points on 17-of-38 shooting from the floor, plus 15-of-15 from the line, against Kleber as the primary defender in this series, according to ESPN Stats & Information".

I just don't want to see some combination of THJ or Curry end up defending Leonard because that is a disaster waiting to happen.

DFS imo has done about as good of a job as you can ask on PG so I'm happy with that matchup

I would stay the course if I'm Rick but instead of leaving Maxi on a Island when Leonard I'd throw some double teams at him.

MKG might be an option but my fear is once you break up that KP, Kleber and DFS frontline our rebounding is going to go to shit and that will create another issue since we have actually rebounded the ball pretty good against them.

Not sure why you keep bringing up the "Curry guarding Kawhi" thing because it hasn't ever happened, and will never be the plan (jesus christ dude). But yes Maxi was effective in the first two games against Kawhi

https://twitter.com/coach_jens/statu...06885957013504

Coach Jens
@coach_jens

Is there a Kawhi-Stopper?! In last year's playoffs, Kawhi Leonard could not be stopped with 1,11 Points per possession on 49% FG. In the first 2 games 2020, his numbers are nearly identical but with
@dallasmavs

@MaxiKleber
as shot defender, he struggles to score (0,89 PPP).

I think we fought hard, but we have some maturing to do and we need a couple of pieces.

Clippers are just that tough defensive team. Refs let them get away with shoving and calling names (like "bitch ass white boy") without penalty.

This team is both toughening up and also learning to fight through adversity. If we only win the one game, I'm still super proud of this team.

Agreed.

One of the big questions I had was would we be bullied or intimidated? That answer has been "Not even a little", and it's been consistent. With several "bitch ass white boys" on the squad and starting lineup, I felt like they would get tested...much like Dirk was constantly tested through the years. I'm real proud of them for holding their ground and even initiating some of the confrontations.

When this season ends we may very well be saying, well we lost to the champs...like everyone else did.

Indeed, We need a couple of pieces to contend.

Which is why I proposed they send over double teams more especially if Leonard is having a good night. Paul George has already proved that he is unreliable thus far. The other guys that they have are hit and miss and will not be consistent in a 7 game series. The only hope is to slow down Leonard who is their only consistent player.

The worst that will happen will be that his checkbook will take a hit of $50k or so

The NBA powers that be are not going to handicap one of the LA teams

tbh im satisfied with the Mavs playoffs. the way they got close in game 1, and came right back and took charge of game 2.

I would love for them to be able to get two wins, but seeing them go head to head with clippers in the playoffs and not get swept is a success. Luka and KP got their first playoff win.

Lets see how game 4 goes.

Totally. Even in game 3, they were able to stay connected for the entire game. To this point in the series, they have been worthy of the stage.

I've heard worst name calling at the local gyms

Luka is a big boy probably not the 1st and surely won't be the last time someone calls him names.

I doubt there's any fine coming just got to man up and let your game do the talking.

If you are a white (or any flavor) person who has played pickup basketball in the last 40 years you have heard worse from your white, asian, mexican, and black friends. I've also heard much worse from your momma's pussy you retarded ass bitch.

Well that's reasonable response.

It's the words he chose, not that he trash talked . The Clips would have sent video of Luka saying it to the league and peobably various activists groups to push for suspension. Hypocrisy on full display if nothing is done about it.

Williams may have a point

NBA is literally having players wear jerseys about racial equity and acceptance. Harrell is specifically using race in a derogatory manner to target another player, which seems to go against the whole spirit of the moment.

solid point

i'm not white or black but if the whole point is to respect others regardless of ethnicity then that's what should be done.

I doubt anything gets done but applaud Jay for calling it what it is.

An apology and suspension would be nice. If tables were turned, I could easily see a "zero tolerance" stance.

Everyone is literally kneeling and wearing support for a movement and Harrell shits all over that gesture the minute that a punk ass white boy stands up to his/their attempted bullying.

Bingo. It's still a racial comment even if it's not technically racist. Totally against what the NBA's stance is on current issues like this.
