Ellis is hot garbage. I'd be cool with him at or below the MLE as our 6th man, but I don't want to waste a shred of our actual cap space to sign him. Any lame-ass chucker can put up numbers. He's the undersized two-guard version of Gilbert Arenas.

Just remember that the last couple of times we got excited, we got (1) Lamar Odom, and then (2) Mike James starting games for us. That ought to dampen expectations a bit.

As we are absolutely not getting Dwight we just wasted a lot of good players for an 5'11 (with shoes) PG with T-Rex Arms.
Amazing. If Dwight is not coming im lmao the Mavs Roster for 2013/2014.

Say we stayed put and did not go after Dwight. How much better is the roster for 2013/2014 with what we have now with no Dwight?
It really makes no difference.

I think there was a communication breakdown here - looks like spreedom thought OneLove22 was talking about Dwight when he said "it really makes no difference," but he was actually talking about the draft pick.
Obviously not getting Dwight makes a big difference as to the success of this offseason, but we probably wouldn't have drafted any differently even if we weren't clearing cap space for him... PG is a position of need, no matter what happens with Howard.

Rockets (and Mavs) obviously have bigger priorities first, and Warriors showed a little interest in Iguodala but that won't be happening
|
He's a good player but doesn't really fit unless they can deal marion for no cap and fit him and bynum, Iguodala as second scorer is not ideal.

Who else is out there as a (healthy) go-to second scorer, though? If Dallas misses on Dwight, their probably going to be - or at least probably should be - looking at a new #2 who makes a good chunk of his salary on the defensive end, anyway. If Iggy's the guy, the price is fair, and Dallas has sufficient room left over to fill out the team around he and Dirk the right way (in particular, with good shooters in the backcourt), I'd take him in a heartbeat. Price tag is pretty much my only reservation with him.

I'd much prefer Bynum to Iguodala, Iguodala is a really good player but limits the ceiling of a team he is a second option on

I think these borderline stars like Iggy and Ellis are going to be in for a surprise when the big money isn't there. In this cba the big guys get the big money and the little guys fight for the scraps.

Bynum is the reason I included the parenthetical comment about health. Without being a doctor and having access to his medical records, I have no idea if he's even ever going to play again. If the medical staff signs off on him, though, he's clearly the more desirable on-court asset.

Why are we talking about a player who averaged 13.3 points per 36 minutes and 52.8% TS% over the last three seasons as a potential second option on offense next year? That's worse than Shawn Marion, and no one was confusing him for our second option on offense last year.

That's a down year by his standards but signing him would make him our second option/creator, yep. He will get paid a lot because of his defense.

I think you glossed over what I wrote - that was the average of his last three seasons. So it's more of a down three years by his standards.

Well, at first I was lumping you in that group because of the somewhat confusingly worded first post I quoted above. Looking at it several times more after I posted, I realize that it could probably be open to another interpretation and that this was probably your most likely intent.
So it looks like just mavs777 talking about as if he were a second option on offense.
Regardless, I don't see Iggy as a realistic option given that dollar figures being thrown out seem to far exceed the value he would bring to a team. Exhibit "XZ" why the dry powder plan has led the Mavs front office into something of a vicious cycle and was a rather curious plan from the start.

In Vince's case - I hope so, he was a much better offensive player last year. It's not like Iggy has a really high usage rate either - I mean over that same three year stretch, he averaged a 18.6% usage rate. Just to put that into perspective, Brandan Wright put up a 19.0% usage rate last year, which was 7th highest out of the 9 Mavericks who logged at least 1000 minutes last season.

With the way things are going, next year's lineup:
PG. Nick Calathes/Shane Larkin
SG. Kevin Martin/Some other crappy SG like Mayo
SF. Shawn Marion/Vince Carter
PF. Dirk Nowitzki
C. Brenden Wright
FML

0% chance brandan wright or calathes would start. Kevin Martin is really good on offense. And with way things are going? Free agency has not even starts yet.

Huh? My remark had nothing to do with being a grammar nazi. What it had to do with was starting out your post with the following rhetorical question:
Who else is out there as a (healthy) go-to second scorer, though?
And then following it up with this statement:
their probably going to be - or at least probably should be - looking at a new #2
And pointing out the possibility of Iggy qualifying for such a role. After a couple more readings of your post, it looks like you meant to emphasize the "who makes a good chunk of his salary on the defensive end" part more than it initially came across. And it probably initially came across that way because it's somewhat unconventional referring to someone as a #2 due to their defensive talents, especially within the context of mavs777's original point (which you were responding to). Apparently, your point was more in the direction of Iggy possibly being the second best overall player on the Mavericks when taking both offense and defense into account, which is probably a much more fair point.
Honestly, I glossed over the misuse of their/they're until you pointed it out. Granted, your 6th grade grammar teacher might not be too happy with you at the moment, but that kind of mistake happens to the best of us when we try to quickly bang out a response to message board post.
