It's all right. We're gonna get the next one, or the one after that. Now they can't go to the Lakers, or the Heat, or Brooklyn, or Knicks. All of them are set, no cap space, no young prospects. They gotta come to the Mavs.

Man think of the financial implications.... The Lakers will be in salary cap hell and surely that will ruin their championship parade.
We're still winning the financial flexibility title though.

Which superstar is leaving an extra 20 mil on the table to play for the Dallas dry powders?
When are the financial flexibility Jerseys coming out?

It doesn't matter what talent the Lakers, Heat, Celtics, or Nets accumulate. The Mavs will have Team Spirit and that's what wins Championships.
(yes, I am being sarcastic)

One can never underestimate the stupidity of other front offices. Just can't see how this is anything other than a nightmare scenario for Magic fans.

Are you at all familiar with the history of the NBA? Or the sport of basketball for that matter? This league has always been thoroughly dominated by 1-4 teams in any given era.

So by this line of thinking, everyone thinks that the championship squad in 11 would be right there if not better than the current squad for the Lakers, Spurs, Thunder, Heat and Pacers?

Ten Reasons Why There Will Be No Lakers Dynasty
- Metta World Peace believes he will be the primary scoring option.
- The top two players on the Lakers bench are Steve Blake and Antwan Jamison.
- Dwight Howard believes he will be the primary scoring option.
- Steve Nash the playmaker is offset by Kobe Bryant's hero ball.
- Kobe Bryant believes he will be the primary scoring option.
- The Lakers have committed $95M to only seven players for the 2013/2014 season (assuming they re-sign Dwight).
- Antwan Jamison believes he will be the primary scoring option.
- Mike Brown is still the Head Coach.
- Jack Nicholson believes he will be the primary scoring option.
- Dwight Howard is no Superman at the free-throw line (58% career).

Yeah, I'm sure Dwight is going to leave Nash, Kobe, Gasol and the extra 24 million on the 5th year. The Dwight dream is over.

Raped in every aspect:
Quote:
Ken Berger @KBergCBS
the 2014 first from Denver is the least favorable between DEN and NYK picks.
Philly first (after 2013 pick conveyed to MIA): lottery-protected in '15 and '16, top-11 protected in '17, top-8 protected in '18.
If Philly pick not conveyed to Orlando by '18, it becomes secound-round picks in '18 and '19.
Lakers' 2015 second-rounder is 31-40 protected. If not conveyed, pick disappears.

That's what happens when you fire everyone in the front office. Otis Smith might have been bad, but I don't think even he would have done that crap deal. Awful. This will go down in NBA infamy as one of the all time stupid trades.

Hmm so it's just give up time then? You think THIS SQUAD is better?
Do I think a squad of Tyson, dirk, Marion, collison, x,y, z is better? I don't know, I'll never know. I do know the team right now doesn't have a snowballs chance in hell.

Before you hand the championship to the Lakers consider they are one injury away from being a competitive but not scary playoff team. If Nash goes down they have a mediocre backup. If Dwight goes down or is less than 100% due to his back then Gasol puts in significant minutes at the 5 and Jamison is your PF.
Even if the Lakeshow are at full strength the Spurs and Thunder and maybe even the Mavs can put up a fight. I just don't buy this fabricated team will be firing on all cylinders their first year together. Especially when you have personalities like Kobe, World Peace, and Howard. With the team salary potentially being over $90M there is also no guarantee this team will be together for very long. Don't get me wrong, if I was a Laker fan then I would be on cloud nine. But there are no guarantees. You still gotta play the games. The season and postseason are still 82+ games and a sure thing contender can suddenly look like a middle of the road playoff team if the ball starts bouncing the wrong way.

Sure, maybe you get lucky and someone goes down. Then you still have to beat the Thunder...or the Heat...
I would bet a pretty high amount on this three teams winning the next three titles....

True, but it's still a different set of circumstances. Marion was coming off the bench in place of Butler. Marion ended up being the guy to close out games before Butler got hurt. In retrospect, that's a hell of a fallback option.

worked pretty well if you ask me

Lots of sarcasm with the list but I do believe that MWP, Kobe, and Dwight will have the potential to be a combustible bunch even with Nash as the head of the snake. Miami found out that it takes awhile for stars to come together. They also found out they needed a bit of a bench to get the job done. The comment regarding Jack Nicholson was not serious. I do not believe he will play many minutes for the Lakers next year. I am not a fan of Mike Brown, so that one is a little less tongue and cheek.

I am only responding to the apparent knee jerk that the Lakers are now almost a certain bet to win it all. Miami has both stars and a deep bench. I see them as the clear cut favorite. I also think the Lakers will have some problems next year meshing as a unit. Similar to the problems the Heat had their first year with the their three stars.

I could see this Lakers team either being a complete disaster or a team that loses to the Heat in the NBA finals.
38 yr old Nash, aging Kobe, you never know where Gasol is going to be mentally, and Dwight Howard will be coming off back surgery. It's also pretty tough to see how this team will gel together, Kobe will have to turn the keys over to Nash and let him run the team and decide where the ball will end up going. If Dwight Howard ends up being treated like Andrew Bynum(basically being ignored in favor of Kobe), then things can turn sour quick.
I'm not ready to put them over OKC just yet, that squad has been together for awhile and Durant-Westbrook-Harden are a pretty formidable big 3 themselves.
But yeah, we(Mavs) have no shot unless guys like Collison and Mayo end up playing up to their all star potential and of course Dirk rounds back into superstar form.
EDIT: Just from a quick glance i say the west is:
1 and 2 OKC/LA
Then Denver, Dallas, LAC, SAS, and the Grizz fighting for position behind them.
