This is true. I'm not sure if Haywood is as big of an upgrade over Dampier as some are making him out to be, but the one thing he brings that Damp couldn't do is the ability to stay on the court for 35+ minutes on any given night. And considering what we have behind him at center right now, that's been HUGE.

Haywood is just as good defensively if not better than Damp
and is at least twice as good as offensive player.
That is a huge upgrade in my opinion....because I think Damp is a pretty dang good defensive center.

"Eduardo Najera knows how to play. He's a much better fit for this team than Kris Humphries."
Odd night to say this...
Man, think if we had made this trade a year or two ago. I've wanted Josh gone for awhile now. It's a shame it took so long.

they all start chanting MVP, MVP. i start yelling scoreboard and they immediately shut up. if i ever needed to know that most of these laker fans were complete and utter morons, that was my shining moment of clarity.

What a fun game to watch. That was awesome.
Jason Terry going off is not the way the Mavericks can beat the Lakers in the playoffs. That's (Jet going off) not something we can count on....but still, it was fun and the JET was the key tonight.

There was one possession in particular where Marion played just plain SICK defense on Kobe. Unfortunately I can't find it in any of the highlights.

Speaking of Marion...could he just stop it with the ridiculous turnaround prayers in the paint? He had a couple that were just flat out awful tonight. Awful.
And who has the stranger shot trajectory...him or Fisher? I'm always surprised his 3 point attempts don't hit the scoreboard.

Playing the lakers is the most frustrating night at the AAC. It seems all of the mavs fans sell their tickets to the newly minted lakers fans. Disgusting how many are there. It is always nice to shut 'em up.

From a defensive perspective he is more agile, which in today's game is more valuable.
In a vacuum I don't know that Haywood is THAT much better than Damp offensively. The big difference is the hands and the instincts to get open and ready for a pass. But in this offense, with Kidd, it makes Haywood a significantly better offensive player.
As far as other aspects of the game, I don't know that Haywood's a better rebounder than Damp, in fact historically Damp has been a better rebounder. But this year at least, Haywood has shown an ability to stay on the court far more consistently than Damp.
But let's all remember how great this team was defensively this year when Damp was healthy. A Haywood/Damp center rotation is going to be so, so delicious.

You seem to be confused about what a fan is. Being a fan means you want a particular team to win. It doesn't necessarily mean you think your team is going to win. I want the Mavs to win the title. I just don't think it's going to happen this year.
Historically, I've given the Mavs much more credit than most of people, even fellow fans. I remember in 04-05, I predicted 55 wins and some people, Mavs fans included, straight up laughed at me. They weren't laughing too hard when they ended up winning 58 games. The next year, a lot of people, Mavs fans included, said that the Spurs were all but unbeatable and that the Mavs would never be able to compete for the title until Duncan retired. They also laughed at me when I predicted that the Mavs would win the title that year. They weren't laughing too hard when the Mavs went to the finals.
The point is, I'm a realist and I call it like I see it. That has nothing to do with how much I do or don't root for a team or want them to win.

I wouldn't argue that assessment. I tend to think that Damp is the better rebounder (historically he has been at least). Haywood has been rebounding at a really high rate lately, but we'll see if that holds up. Hopefully it does, but before this year he hasn't been anywhere near the rebounder that Damp has been.
I'm really looking forward to Damp getting healthy so we can see the rotation with both of them. We are going to be stout at center. That's got me excited.

I dunno whose is "stranger," but Marion's is definitely less effective. The ball coming in at a steeper angle (Fisher) greatly increases its chances of going in.

thig, I like damp too...but yes, when all things considered, Haywood is a significantly better offensive player than Damp.
edit to add: I do agree that they are MUCH closer defensively and rebounding...but offensively its not close in my mind.

You know his shot has always looked freaky, but I never knew his hands were this bad until he came here. In Phoenix it was concealed because all his points came off of dive cuts and wide open looks. The Mavs need to take this approach and stop posting him up so often.
