Watching Morant....damn it sucks so much that we lost the stupid 3-way-coinflip in the past lottery. That was the easiest path to get the third "star"

I'm confused. The only pick we had in 2019 was the 10th pick which went to Atlanta, because of the Doncic trade (trading 2018 5th and 2019 10th for 2018 3rd)
Morant went 2nd. Don't think there is any way we could have secured him.
I do really like him, though. That dunk was ferocious and he has a pretty level head for someone only 20 years old. Honestly think he could be the best player in that 2019 draft and could even join the 50-40-90 club.

We were tied with Pelicans and Grizzlies. NBA did a 3-way-coinflip to determine the order between these three teams. We "lost" and ended up up with the lottery balls for the #10 spot. Pelicans and Grizzlies got the balls for #8 and #9. Pelicans and grizzlies got one of their balls (aka combination) drawn at #1 and #2.
So basically we had a 66% chance to end up with Zion or Morant....blargh

That's not really how it works. For the first round, all combinations are put into a pot and then divided by the number of tied teams and distributed as equally as possible. In the first round, a coinflip can only ever affect the results by 0.01% (1 combination out of 1,000). In the case of the 2019 draft, the coin flip had no effect on the first round whatsoever because the combinations divided evenly.
7th - 75 combinations
8th - 60 combinations
9th - 45 combinations
-----------------
180 combinations total so each team got 60 combinations for the first round.
New Orleans - 60 combinations (hit the jackpot and drafted #1)
Dallas - 60 combinations (no such luck and drafted 10th so it went to the Hawks)
Memphis - 60 combinations (hit the jackpot and drafted #2)
We all had equal odds. Memphis and New Orleans just got really lucky. You can argue that it would have been good to tank harder for better odds and I'd agree, but the coin flip had actually zero effect on the results of the 2019 draft. Two of the three teams we had the same odds as just got super lucky.

Damn, Luka was so magic last night that the NBA is going to add a Mexico City team to the G-League next season.

Easily the leagues best team if they all stay healthy. I’m not sure the Bucks can score enough in the playoffs to keep up. Lakers supporting cast is garbage aside from Green.

I think you are exactly right - health is key- Kawhi - leg problems, PG - past shoulder issues.
Clippers depth is real key to that team - AND OUR MAVS!!!
And Lakers - bench is really bad... and outside of Green very poor 3pt shooters.

I'm not sure why people think the Lakers' supporting cast is bad. Maybe you've only watched the two Mavs games? I'm pretty confident that I've probably watched them more than anyone else on this forum- I watch almost every game. Caruso, Caldwell-Pope, McGgee, Howard, and the even the infamous Rajon Rondo are all solid role-players who've done really well. Rondo has actually developed a respectable outside shot too. The Lakers have been a well-oiled machine, and it's not just Lebron and AD. And the weird thing is, the guys who should be their two best supporting players- Kuzma and Bradley- have been underperforming. So as good as the Lakers have been so far, they still have clear room for improvement, which is scary to think about.
I still think the Clippers at full strength are the better team, but the idea that the Lakers are a shallow team with only Lebron and AD next to a bunch of scrubs is a misconception.

I see where you are coming from and I too watch a ton of NBA games.
The Lakers bench is rated #21 (Mavs #7) (and rockets at dead last!!!) http://www.hoopsstats.com/basketball...s/19/7/diffeff
and the Lakers 3 point attempts are near the bottom as well at #24 (btw - look at the teams below them) not sure they can put up the points needed in a playoff series.

When people say "supporting cast" I take that to mean their starters outside of Lebron and AD as well. My only point is that their team as a whole plays really well together. They do need more reliable shooting and they need a quality scorer off the bench. That's where Kuzma and Bradley have been missing. Kuzma is supposed to be their quality sixth man, but either he hasn't figured that role out or he just doesn't fit there. And Bradley is supposed to be a very reliable 3pt shooter, but this year he's shooting a putrid .235. If and when those two guys start playing to their potential, the Lakers could destroy anything in their path. If not, look for the Lakers to start shopping Kuzma around.
The Clippers definitely have more depth, but that says more about how really freaking good the Clippers' roster is than about how bad the Lakers' roster is. The Clippers have pretty easily the deepest roster in the league. The Celtics are probably the only real comparison.

I think they’ve got to start thinking of themselves as a Championship caliber-type team.”

Amazing how many people have talked trash about Dennis Schroeder, and yet he is killing it this year. Love to have him as a backup.

Obligatory reminder that we passed on him, as well as some other pretty good players, to take Shane Larkin 😊
Seriously though, I’m so glad we have Luka wouldn’t trade him for anything. And who knows if we don’t take Larkin maybe we never have Luka. Likely we don’t.

Streaking: Knicks on a 3-game win streak, 6-4 over their last 10, after Sunday's 24-point win (117-93) over the fading Blazers.
Ntilikina was a catalyst in relief of Elfrid Payton, with 9 pts and 10 assists, 1 steal and 2 blocks, 0 turnovers.
Mitchell Robinson had 22 points in 27 minutes, on 11 for 11 shooting, including 5 assisted alley-oops from Ntilikina (who was the 8th pick in the 2017 draft).
Defensively, Ntilikina helped to stifle the Blazers' backcourt duo of Lilliard and McCollum, harrassing them into a combined 11 of 36 (4 of 15 from 3; Lillard was 1 of 8).
In other news, Carmelo Anthony had 0 assists in 31 minutes for the Blazers.

He was very good. Been playing like this for awhile, but yesterday was basically a bigger dose.
Frank Ntilikina Highlights 1/1/2020 v. Blazers
P.S.: To Whom It May Concern: The announcers are saying "Bullock" not "Bullet". Reggie Bullock's debut as a NYK was yesterday. The other guy didn't dress for the game.

Hate both. Have never forgotten Perkins blatantly diving at Shawn Marion's knee. Perkins was a dirty talentless p.o.s. who never really wanted to fight.

Not a fan of Perkins either, but he’s fully aware he was just a hired goon. I doubt his feelings were actually hurt here.

@tiagosplitter: How crazy is this? I used to have a poster of Vince Carter in my room... then I played against him... now I coach against him and he is still playing!

WTF, Minnesota basically just gives Jeff Teague to the Hawks for Allen f'in Crabbe? Amazing how little value your roster has when you're bad.

That is odd. Teague is still a good player. Could be about the best backup point guard in the league for them. If you're not counting FVV.

I wish this was a sign that Minny was blowing it up. I really want R-Cov, but seems like a pretty lateral move to improve their swing depth and dump an unhappy player.

I wonder how long before Kat asks out? I keep hearing rumors about them trying to trade for DAngelo who is terrible. Wonder if that appeases him.
