This is one of the most boring games I've ever seen. I'm lucky Stewie Griffin's Untold Story is on another channel.

I sure do not like seeing Terrence Newman running back anything. We do seem pretty desperate to find a punt returner.
Also what's the penalty for kicking the ball out of bounds. I thought it was the 35yard line.
Well heck they get that anyway, might as well kick it out of bounds.

starting to look at Green Bay. A few interesting statistical points that I think describe the differences in our two teams.
Dallas:
11th ranked rushing (123 yds/game)
5th passing
2nd total yards
2nd points scored
defense yields 3.6 yds per rushing attempt against us
defense has given up 3290 yards total (stats don't include today)
17 FG made, 20 attempted
44 Touchdowns scored (11 rushing, 29 passing which is a tie with Danny White for most ever for the Cowboys, 0 on returns, 4 on defense not counting today (5 counting today))
time of possession per game: 31:08
turnover ratio not counting today: plus 6
13 yards gained per pass
66% pass completion percentage, 3043 yards through the air
270 rushes total for our top two running backs for 1207 yds (doesn't count other rushes by other players, 4.47 yards per carry by our top two running backs)
offensive line averages over 320 lbs per player not counting the tight end
Witten has 59 receptions (not counting tonight) for 750 yards and 6 TD's, averaging 12.7 yards per catch
-----------------------------
Green Bay:
30th ranked rushing (81 yds/game)
2nd passing
3rd total yards
5th points scored
defense yields 4 yds per rushing attempt against them
defense has given up 3469 yards total (stats don't include today)
22 FG made, 28 attempted
33 Touchdowns scored (7 rushing, 22 passing, 1 on returns, 3 on defense not counting today)
time of possession per game: 30:51
turnover ratio not counting today: plus 5
11.5 yards gained per pass
68% pass completion percentage, 3356 yards through the air
159 rushes total for their top two running backs for 696 yds (doesn't count other rushes by other players, 4.38 yards per carry by their top two running backs)
offensive line averages over 307 lbs per player not counting the tight end
Donald Lee has 39 receptions (not counting tonight) for 468 yards and 4 TD's, averaging 12 yards per catch
The interesting finding for me are:
1)If you look at the fact that the Packers have taken 8 more FG attempts than us and 11 fewer touchdowns for the season, it would appear that the Packers struggle in the red zone compared to Da Boys. Suspect that is due to a number of factors that favor Dallas (TO, Witten, huge offensive line, much better running game).
2)our FG kicker is better by percentages
3)The Packers don't have a running game. They don't have a balanced offense. They are ranked 30th in the NFL for their running game. But, they are ranked 2nd in passing yards demonstrating the lopsided offense. Note they are 5th in points which I suspect is due to failure to get into the end zone with the efficiency of Dallas or New England.
4)Packers don't use their Tight End heavily in passing routes. This is good for our defense, but I wouldn't be surprised if they match up their Tight End on Roy Williams and change that trend...
5)Favre has 22 Touchdown passes to Romo's 29 (those stats do include today). Favre has more passing yards (3356) than Romo (3043) but can't get the TD's.
So, game plan would be:
Focus the defense on dealing with the passing offense. Get to the quarterback with pressure, don't expect a lot of sacks. Need an "A" game from our secondary. Roy will benefit in coverage as their Tight End is not known for his catches and routes.
Run the ball down their throat and wear them down and abuse them with the running game in the fourth quarter.
Take advantage of their weakness in scoring touchdowns in the red zone when the passing defense can tighten up in less space since the Packers can't run the ball.
No turnovers.
Dallas wins 31 to 23.

I fear the packers in this one. Their strength is their passing game, especially to a lot of receivers. I would think about playing quite a bit of zone against them. The packers I expect will go with some 3 wideouts or 4 to try and make the cowboys cover instead of stopping the run.
The passrush is going to be really key(as usual). I ithink the cowboys will score plenty, the trick will be the defense, as it has been most of the year.
Any idea about the packers pass rush? I would also think of running a little more to keep their defense on the field.

The Cowboys dropped six players into defensive cover positions against the Eagles. The Packers' weakness is their running game. McNabb's weakness is a lot of interceptions. Guess what? That is also Favre's issue as Favre has (I think) the most interceptions of any quarterback ever.
As to sacks, the two teams are essentially equal per the numbers. Not counting today's games, the Packers have 32 sacks to the Cowboy's 30 sacks per NFL.com
No doubt this will be a good game. The Cowboys have a few key advantages to my way of thinking:
1)We can run the ball. They can't.
2)We score TD's more often than they do and kick fewer FGs. We hit a higher percentage of our FGs.
3)Our Tight End is a leading receiver and pro bowler. Their Tight End is mainly a blocking Tight End and that isn't saying much for him since they don't have a running game.
4)I think we can keep more players in blitz packages versus dropping back more guys and do so with minimal risk as to worrying about getting burned by their running game.

Uh, guys, the Packers have been able to run the ball lately. Grant, since week 8, has had 104, 55, 119 (against the Vikings' run D, no less), 88, and 101 yards. Their run game was pretty much invisible at the beginning of the season, but it's certainly there now.

i think dallas, even though they wouldn't admit it, looked passed the jets today and still won by 31 points.
i really think henry and newman will both be 100 percent against farve and ware will record a 2.5 sacks, not to mention crayton will be back and you will see the tank unleashed.
final score will by 38-20. Dallas wins with GB scoring a meaningless touchdown late in the game.
Al Harris is good and physical, but he will not be able contain T.O. for the entire 4 quarters
don't forget, Woodson is hurt. he may still play but he won't be at full speed

They should be able to run when everyone is playing defense geared to stopping the pass. 467 yards divided by 5 games is about 93 yards per game. Dallas has not allowed any one rusher to gain 100 yards against us and I doubt that the Packers will be the one to do it. The Packers could pick up a total of 120 yards on the ground (but I doubt it). Point is still the same. Dallas can play defense against the Packers in a similar fashion as they did against the Eagles. We can drop a lot of guys back in coverage and mix that up with several blitz packages. Blitz packages would become more frequent if the running game is having success.

I miss him. Imagine how amazing this team would be if he was playing at that level.
we are 22nd in passing defense.
Roy needs to be unleashed in special teams coverages.

Yeah, right around the time that Bill Parcells came along. I seriously think that Parcells messed Roy's game up.

my friend and I had this same exact discussion...
Bill made roy soft. Bill took him off of special teams and made him sit back in the 2 deep zone instead of up around the line of scrimmage which is where Roy is most special (as seen in the video)
there is no questioning that

I don't think Bill had anything to do with Roy's decline. I've been keeping up with Roy and he went through a lot last year in his life to the point where he turned to god. Most people say that but he really did give his life to God. They had a special on ABC weeks before the season started and when he was on MTV Cribs he even had kids from his church over his house at the time of taping. Ever since this has happen it seems Roy isn't the hard hitter he once was. To some he's even become a liablity. I'm one of his only defenders but i'm confident that as the season goes Roy will began to play better as the corners began to get more healthy.

Burlington's tallest tale is a Cowboy story
Posted: Nov. 25, 2007
By Mike Nichols
Burlington - They love an outlandishly tall tale here.
This is, after all, the hometown of the world-renowned Burlington Liars Club.
Love a can't-be-true, million-to-one yarn so much they make plaques out of them and hang them on downtown buildings.
The one at City Hall is a classic. It's about the winter it got so incredibly cold they actually spotted a politician with his hands in his own pockets.
There's never been a tale around here, however, like the one unfolding this week, when the 10-1 Packers are slated to take on the 10-1 Cowboys.
It's about a kid, says Fred Mabson, a local restaurant owner, who "had no advantage in any way, shape or form. His parents were not wealthy."
Just, said the boy's former high school football coach, Steve Gerber, "very loving."
He grew up in a little house in a nondescript part of town across from the old cemetery, which seemed sort of apt.
In an age when we tell kids they have to specialize in a sport by the age of 5, have the best gyms and the best fields and the best nutrition programs or have no chance at all, this is the sort of place where dreams die.
Not with this kid.
This kid was just a typical boy, a little "hyper" actually, said his sixth grade phy-ed teacher, Rick Koceja. "Very active."
"Got in his share of trouble," but knew "when to settle down."
Just a "nice hometown kid" whom nobody expected to end up in the NFL, said Rick's wife, Nancy. How could they? For the longest time, he didn't even play football.
He played soccer until his freshman year in high school, said Burlington High School Athletic Director Eric Burling. And even then, he was better known as a basketball guy - a "gym rat."
Yes, said Burling, he was a good athlete. But not one who got much notice from the big schools. Ended up playing football at Eastern Illinois. Didn't even get a full scholarship.
"No one," said Burling, "would have suspected what he has done now."
Now, said Burling, people are ordering retro Burlington High School football gear all the way from France. People from Seattle to New York are sending money for Burlington jerseys with Romo's old high school number, 16, on them. They want to know where the NFL's latest star came from. Want to pretend they come from here as well. And who wouldn't?
Tony Romo - the kid who somehow settled down into a job as the starting quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys - recently signed a contract worth $67 million. That's enough, the Burlington Standard Press pointed out, to buy $3 "sliders" at Mabson's place for 22 million of his closest friends.
Nowadays, of course, everybody wants to be Romo's friend. He hangs out with starlets, which cracks the old friends up. They go down to Dallas to visit and end up getting hugs from Jessica Simpson.
There are only 10,000 people in Burlington. Things like this aren't supposed to happen here.
This is Packers land, and always will be. But it's also a place where little kids parade around in Romo jerseys. Men are cutting Packer hats in half and sewing them to Cowboy lids. Everybody has a story about Romo - a good one.
And this week - as the local boy prepares to take on his idol on Thursday night - they're worth listening to because every once in a while a tall tale isn't just outlandish and unbelievable.
It's actually true.
|
Why do people keep saying that Favre is Romo's boyhood idol? Romo himself said he used to cheer against the Pack.
I guess just a story for the Media to play off of...

Owens, who often sports Michael Jordan apparel, would make 'His Airness' proud.
"Sometimes I do feel like I'm a guy that can do some of the things that he did on the basketball court, knowing that with him he was going to get the ball - you just got to stop him," Owens said Sunday. "And I know that's the same case with me. I know they know I'm going to get the ball and they're going to read out formations or whatnot. But it's a challenge for me to go out there and win."
