He's not a freak athlete, only decent. His big strength was...well, his strength. He was good at taking it to the rim and finishing.
How that translates to the NBA, I have no idea. Based off tonight, he might have a bit of an adjustment period to go through.

I'll reserve judgment on Jones. He looks like he might have some promise, but he needs to work on his handles and his hops.

Mahinmi just looks like he can help. Somethin about the way he moves with and without the ball that lets me know he's going to be a solid contributor before too long.

Because Chandler is an injury prone and the Lakers, Celtics and Magic are deep at center?

This seems like a pretty good assessment to me. I haven't seen much of Jones before tonight, but he looks like a guy who relies on his strength to create space for his shot rather than a quick first step, handles, etc. I don't think he'll be able to bull his way to the basket as easily in the NBA. I expect him to get a lot of shots blocked.

Dee Brown is a better shooter and seems to be a better passer than Barea. I'll take him please.

That was a darn nice end to the game. It made me forget that DoJo was the only player out there that even had a guaranteed contract at the end

John Wall:
"It's great," he said. "Every night, you're going to play against somebody talented, like I said before. The point guards in this league are very talented nowadays. Jason Kidd, he's old, but he's still a veteran in this game. he knows the tricks of the trade, still knows how to set his teammates up and how to make plays. Just imagine, when he was younger, he was one of the top point guards and fast."

Really gonna enjoy watching Chandler. Every time he came in he brought energy, and we made a run. If he stays healthy he is > Haywood. Good tandem to have for sure.
Dojo- no worries there. He will get more comfortable out there had a very nice finish and that is all that matters most times.
Jet, Barea- c ya later bye. If Barea insists on being this short, he is gonna have to make better decisions on the court and just doesn't/can't.
I can see Brian Cardinal hangin' around and I would rather see Dee FN Brown than Haluska, Novak or Barea.
Caron the answer at 2guard? NOPE!!! Not gonna happen.
This team is almost built like a shit brick house right now. I knew we weren't gonna win the finals because we didn't win the crucial tip off. But hey who knows it was just one game. I'm ready for thursday already.

Our centers combined for 27 points (71% shooting), 14 rebounds, 3 blocks, 1 steal and 2 assists.
I know it's the preseason, but not bad...

Team continues to look a lot like last years. And will until something more fundamental is found during half-court sets. We struggled scoring in the half-court and made a run when running. That was very typical of last years team which you can expect early. But I do not see where it is going to change.
Without Al Jefferson for example, there still is very little if any inside-out ball. And there still isn't a playmaking wingman on the team. I don't think Caron is going to be it, he's too much of an isolation player. Jet isn't, jkiddo isn't, roddy isn't.
Only player I see on the team that could be would be Dojo and it would be a miracle if he became that this year.
The only other thing that would change the game is a much, much improved defense to allow those fast breaks to be more prevalent as well as being able to survive the half-court scoring lulls.
Jury's out.

Absolutely. You knew when we didn't get that SG who can do the things we are missing for half court sets it could be this way. We are the same team with a few more lobs and center points because of Chandler.
Other than Defense If Marion isn't running the floor he is unimpressive and can't add a lot to the half court set because he can't shoot or dribble penetrate. Caron is still just the latest piece crammed in to fit but doesn't and it looks like RC and co need to work harder on some plays that are gonna cater more to what he is, so they can milk everything he can give us for the time being.. until they can move him.
If we just had the SG right now that could do both, shoot and penetrate (K Mart type) it would change the team pretty dramatically. Especially with the wing defenders and Chandler helping out on D. I think Roddy being back will help out the whole Caron and MArion being on the floor doing similar things and I don't care who comes off the bench Caron or MArion but it is gonna have to be one of them when Rod comes back.

I was laughing hard when Terry, Barea and Cardinal/Novak were the same time on the floor. How you are supposed to play defense with that?

Well you certainly know it's preseason when Barea gets the second most minutes on the team next to Dirk.

Cardinal didn't play bad defense at all and he took hard fouls when he had to foul. He's gonna make the team.

I liked DoJo both taking and making the shot at the end to tie it up at 94... sure it's just one preseason game, but it speaks to his confidence.
It's hard to explain how happy I am that Mavericks basketball is back.

I think he'll make the team as well, he did enough smart tough things for me. He's a pretty (well REALLY) unimpressive specimen however. His rebounding in particular seems especially poor, even when he had position he didn't seem to block out enough to grab it.
And man what a fall from grace has occurred to Adam Morrison. Dude cannot get off the bench in a pre-season game...yuck....

I wouldn't bury Novak just yet. He's much more in the mold of what they were hoping to get from Thomas than Cardinal is. Cardinal is a solid end of the bench player, but I would generally prefer a player who does one thing very well over someone who does a few things at an average level.

Fair enough. I see Cardinals Grit winning out if Novak ends up being just ok or not shooting a good % at 3. I like that Cardinal is ugly and seems totally willing to take hard fouls when need be. Novak won't, but if he can knock down shots at a great % then we win either way in this situation.

Well hopefully defensively we pick it up, with Chandler, it actually helps us on the offensive end, IF we break down the strong side time and time again. He's there for the lob, if they pack it in, we flip it out to Kidd and hope he's on....that means we need a healthy Roddy to initiate the half court, or at least just to break down the ball side. Find his 5 options, take it all the way, lob to Tyson, or kick to Kidd or Dirk spotting up or a slashing Caron/Marion. I think with a training camp, it will help our half court much more.
I was scratching my head this morning whether or not to post that Indiana needs to move a wing to get under roster limits, but when looking at the choices, the only one that puts us over the top is Granger. Then you're looking at Dunleavy, Paul George, Dahntay Jones and from there it's a step back or indifferent move. So with our current roster make up a trade must significantly upgrade our rotation before I'd even consider making the move.

Terry is who he is a streaky shooter meant to be a 6th man, the problem is Barea is even worse defensively and you can't have 2 players so similar, I hope Barea's minutes are cut down a lot

I'd like to see Barea's minutes cut down to something more proportional to his height...

Hey if Brown is consistent through the preseason....I'm sure Nelson will be on the horn shopping Barea around in a package.
