We changed our approach this year compared to last year.
Remember we had 4 giants (7ft+) plus Powell and Maxi on this roster going into last season and now we only have one 7 footer.
Kidd is going more with a smaller and more agile lineup so this could become problematic for opposing defenses. It could be really fun to watch our offense this season.

This makes it sound like we're smaller
We ended the year with:
Powell 6'10" (backup-caliber)
Kleber 6'10" (backup-caliber)
Bertans 6'10" (third string)
Boban 7'4" (unplayable)
That's it.
This year we have:
McGee 7'0" (starting-caliber)
Wood 6'10" (starting-caliber)
Powell 6'10" (backup-caliber)
Kleber 6'10" (backup-caliber)
Bertans 6'10" (third string)
We went from a 7 footer that we couldn't play to a solid starting 7footer while adding another starting-caliber 4/5.

My point is starting this season compared to starting last season. We obviously didnt have the same team at start of season last year compared to end.

Warriors have released Mac McClung and Trevion Williams. Rockets released Ty Jerome but it looks like he might sign some sort of contract with the Warriors. Not sure if any of that young talent is of interest to the Mavs, but they do have an open roster spot.

We had Willie Cauley-Stein, Moses Brown and Porzingis. Call me crazy but I think McGee and Wood are better despite a lack of "size"

Marc Stein

The Mavs came into camp hoping to leave open one roster spot and give players under contract first crack at PG minutes unclaimed by Luka Doncic and Spencer Dinwiddie.
With the regular season closing in, Dallas could still elect to bring in Campazzo or another vet as a third PG.

Dallas continues to weigh signing PG Facu Campazzo, league sources say, but no firm decision has been made.
Campazzo has said since leaving Denver that staying in the NBA is his hope. @webEncestando reports he has EuroLeague interest from Fenerbahce and former team Real Madrid.

please say no to Campazzo
I would rather we see Green or Nit run backup duties here.

Yeah, a 5'10 31yo who shoots 32% from 3 and doesn't provide much, if anything on D would give me pause as well.
Kind of fun to watch but we get that entertainment from Luka.
Seems we could do better.

Looks like Campazzo is happening. Luka buddy and fan favorite 15th man like Boban, I guess. Midgets and giants make the best fan favorites.

Marc Stein: The Mavericks are in advanced talks with former Denver PG Facundo Campazzo on a one-year deal, league sources say. Dallas still has a 15th roster spot uncommitted; Campazzo appears increasingly poised to seize it barring an unforeseen Mavs move before Opening Night rosters lock. ? via Twitter TheSteinLine

So what does Campazzo do well? Not familiar with him. Looks like he shot 30% from 3 last season. Yikes

Highlight reel passes is all I can remember. Seems like I remember him throwing up bad advanced stats when Denver was forced to give him minutes.

Looks like we have 14 + 2 two-way contracts:
Dorsey and Wright IV

According to Eurohoops and Marca, the Dallas Mavericks have elected to sign former Denver Nuggets point guard Facu Campazzo to a one year deal. Campazzo had spent the previous two seasons with the Denver Nuggets, where he played 130 games and scored 5.6 points and dished out 3.5 assists.

Yuck. Meanwhile, Hardy keeps getting glowing reviews from camp. Really hope that turns into something meaningful.

I didn?t watch him play, but his stats are very underwhelming. Not sure what the FO sees in this guy?

Boban didn?t play last year either and yet he was a net positive
Hard to criticize our 15th roster spot for that
He?s not Brunson-level but that was never going to happen for a one year veteran minimum deal. If Hardy/Green/Frank fail and Doncic/SD are a disaster then we?ll need to address that via trade and I assume there will be a few teams willing to dump talent to tank at the TDL

I guess I?d rather just see a guy they can develop at the end of the bench, or was a lottery bust needing a change of scenery. If Luka wanted him then fine. 15th guy isn?t going to move the needle anyway.

From reports, Mavs see him as the third ball handler possibly sharing the court with Luka and/or SD, not 15th guy on the bench.
Facu did play last year and was not a positive. Hes undersized, scored on at will, has trouble finishing at the rim, doesnt shoot well. Not sure the point of the Boban comparison. Facu avg 22mpg. If this is all they can muster, wouldve rather see DSJ.
