Jarrett Jack going to Cleveland. That's fine. Gary Neal and Corey Brewer are still on the table.

Jack was out the moment we signed Calderon.

Gary Neal has starting sg potential in the sense that a coach could potentially write his name in the sg spot on the starting lineup, but that's about it

Hate to see jack go to cavs for only 6 mil a year. Would've been great having him come in with the second rotation. Oh and hell no to Gary Neal. Unless for under 2 mil.

Jarrett Jack is fools' gold. His overall numbers look good and you remember the handful of clutch shots he makes every year, but he plays lousy defense, can't run an offense and takes way too many terrible shots. He's basically a smaller, slightly more talented version of Larry Hughes.

Signing Jermaine O'Neal would be an abortion.

JO looked pretty good with the Suns last season. Could be worse options for your 4th or 5th big. I'm not sure what kind of players some people are expecting us to fill out the lower third of our roster with.

Bynum, Jermaine... It's getting harder and harder to root for '13-'14 season.

I would be all for Ellis on a one year deal if it came to that. Not ideal, but since this offseason isn't exactly stellar so far...I'd take it.
Jack to Cleveland for 4/25 is a good deal. And wow Smith to the Pistons?

I'm basically in agreement with this. When we're talking about guys like JO it's all about the context of why we're looking at him. If we're prioritizing SG by signing Monta and don't have a big chunk of money left over to address center, he's a perfectly reasonable option.

O'neal, Sarge, and Bynum would be fine to look at in the center rotation. I'd like to see Jermaine reunite with Carlisle who helped him be an all-star. Jermaine would be the insurance.
I'd rather rent Jermaine than Ellis. That's for sure. Not in full agreement over Ellis now.

Stein reporting Mavs closing in on resigning Devin Harris.
I know the guard play last year was awful, but that... doesn't really make sense to me. Unless the Mavs are planning on trading some of these point guards for help in other places and we just don't know about it yet.

When I hear the name Devin Harris it's always in Avery's new orleans accent. lol

If we sign Ellis, I guess we would have the worse defensive backcourt in the NBA.

First of all we won't. Devin Harris pretty much nullifies the chance of that. Second of all you do realize Harris is a good defender right? A lot better than OJ, ATL was 6 points per 100 possessions better on defense when he was on the floor.

I was talking about Calderon and Ellis, i don't think Harris will average more than 20 minutes per game.

Mavs aren't going after Ellis now that they have Harris, I'm 95% certain. Harris will play some 2.

To do list......
Sign a starting C
Re-sign Wright
Sign a couple of shooters (Morrow, Neal.....)
Maybe pick up another perimeter defender (maybe bring Dahntay back or Sam Young)....
Might need another big (Brand?)

Sup, new member here
Anyways, since we already got Harris back, why not get some more of Dirk's old friends and sign Josh Howard to a minimum deal... of course after we address our center need

There are no serious teams left with Cap space...Sixers, Bucks..

Any interest in Ekpe Udoh now that Milwaukee has at the 4/5 what we have at the 1/2?

For sure... sounds like Gustavo Ayon might be the odd man out there, though. I like Udoh much better but he'd probably be the tougher get.

Salary Cap Situation (estimate)- $22.7M - Dirk
- $9.3M - Marion
- $6.5M - Calderon
- $3.2M - Vince
- $2.5M - Harris
- $1.3M - Larkin
- $0.8M - Crowder
- $0.8M - James
- $0.8M - Akognon
- $0.9M - Brandan Wright (Cap Hold)
- $4.0M - Elton Brand (Cap Hold)
Total: $52.8M for 11 players
With a $58.5M salary cap, we have $5.7M left to spend in free agency. If we renounce the rights to Elton Brand, we'll have $9.2M to spend on one player. Or we can split $9.7M for two players.
The Mavs desperately need a 2nd scorer right now. O.J. is gone. If we go into the season with Shawn Marion as our second leading scorer... we're screwed.
I think the market is quickly drying up for Monta Ellis. Most of the free agent shooting guards and combo guards have already found a home. Milwaukee closed the door on him when they signed O.J. Mayo. I wonder if maybe Monta Ellis will end up signing a 1-year deal with us. He's a combo guard like Devin Harris, and the Mavs can probably find some way to utilize a 3-guard rotation in the backcourt.
If we can get Monta Ellis locked up to a 1-year $9.2M contract... I'm all for it. It'll be ridiculous when we spend all our cap room on 3 guards. But we desperately need a second scorer, and Monta is the best one remaining in free agency. Actually, he's the only one remaining.

Calderon and Harris are both better scorers than Marion
