Once we figure out our salary situation, If Frank is still available I wouldnt mind us trading one of the 2nd round picks we got for him. Again ...only after we get who we are going after and it wont impact so salary situation negatively.
Can we trade Lee of Frank?

Why would the Knicks take back a contract they literally just got rid of? That would be...bizarre.

Why would NYK take Lee back after they just unload especially him on us? If we wanted Frank, then we would have traded for him as part of the Porzingis deal... But because he was the 8th overall pick, he'll cost $4.9m this season and $6.2m in 20-21 -- which is way too much money for him at this point... The only way you'll see him on a Mavs roster is if NYK waives him and we sign him for minimum.

@BlakeWeird: Windhorst and MacMullan have both heard 4/112 for Horford. Both say they have heard Mavs. Say it’s not reportable but that’s the rumor.
MacMahon says Mavs say they were caught off-guard when Horford became available. Says they could be “playing dumb”.

Just don't think the Mavs let something like that slip.

That would be....not good. Too much in the rumor mill to make me think this is truly a Mavs thought process and not an agent using the Mavs as leverage.

Numerous teams and agents believe Al Horford has a four-year offer awaiting him in free agency worth an estimated $112 million. Sources with knowledge of the Mavericks’ thinking continue to insist that such a deal will NOT be coming from Dallas. Free agency starts in eight days

@espn_macmahon: Mavs source told me “nope” when I asked about this today. Others around league suspect/believe that it’s Dallas, as @WindhorstESPN, Jackie Mac and I discussed on podcast.

I am guessing Horford's agent is trying to get the Celtics to up their offer.

The question is where this idea is coming from? This rumor keeps popping up so clearly someone is talking about it, despite denials from every plugged in local source.
Is it his agent trying to pump up his value? But why opt out of a guaranteed 30 million on just the hope that someone will offer a similar amount? If his agent is trying to pump up his value then that means he hasn't been assured he'll get a new contract, because there is no need to create false rumors like this if you already believe a new deal is practically done. 30 million dollars is not the kind of money you play around with without some pretty solid assurances.
Or is it possible the rumor is legit and we are about to offer him 4/112 but the Mavs are just denying it to anyone who asks so they can't be accused of tampering and in general just don't want to tip their hand yet?

Let's just say the Kemba Walker idea doesn't appear to be workable. So...
Do you go all in on Horford?
Do you look for a couple of mid-level players until 2020-2021 or even the year after?
That might actually turn out to be the what the landscape looks like. It might boil down to those two questions. Spend it on a great but aging player, or keep your powder dry?

I bet he has something like a 4/80 deal on the table somewhere, but is trying to use Cuban's deep pockets and a desire to win to leverage a better offer... It's a plausible enough rumor to gain traction.

LOL, too many days until free agency starts...
@SIChrisMannix: Expect Dallas to at least attempt to get into the Kevin Durant sweepstakes. Mavs have had eyes for Durant for years, dating back to his final days in Oklahoma City. Unlikely, but I'd bet on Dallas trying.

Ha, I saw a rumor that if the Mavs could get rid of THJ, then we could get both Horford AND Walker! Golly!

Someone eating THJ into cap space or a TE is going to cost Brunson + 2020 FRP + additional SRP minimum

No kidding, between the bogus rumors and the ridiculous desire to overspend and strap us to God awful contracts by MFFLs it's hard not having a fast forward button

Hey. I'm only starting conversations. Most of the players I'm not remotely interested in, I just want to hear other posters opinions. This place is DEAD most of the time and the rest of the time its all groupthink.
But we are definitely going to get players with some warts on them. And the Mavs actually operated BEST when they had bad contracts to trade. Right now we have to give away half our team to get anyone who makes any real money. Besides its not MY money (or yours).

I'd be OK with it if we got rid of THJ. That IF is bigger than Montana. I mean hey, it only took NY giving up KP to get rid of THJ.

Well, whatever it takes to lock up a 33 yr old. We have to strike now to take advantage of building around our young core with elite athletes.

We don't have any assets to get rid of THJ's contract, it ain't happening. Now we could potentially trade him for a shorter bad contract, like Schröder's. That might be more realistic, although with THJ's player option, the two contracts could be the same length.

Seeing a lot of articles out of Charlotte lately about how maxing out Kemba would destroy the Hornets ability to build a team... It’s almost as if they’re trying to turn the fan base against him so that when he walks they’ll think it was the best possible option.

On the flip side, a lot of Mavs fans are so confident in getting him that a meltdown is inevitable if he chooses to stay.

I don't know why anyone would... Even if he doesn't stay, there's no reason to think he'd choose Dallas over anyone else. If Kawhi, Durant, and Klay all stay put, then Kemba is going to be at the top of everyone's wishlist alongside Kyrie.

But i see a lot of Hornets fans telling Dallas is the biggest threat, also because Kemba hates drama etc and thats why he would choose Dallas over Knicks or Lakers.
I think the Lakers not getting the max cap slot is pretty significant in the Kemba sweeptakes. But i wouldnt surprised if the Lakers target Butler over Kemba. I think Butler is heading to LA, he developed a lot of LA ties in the past years

Forgive me if I don’t view Hornets fans as a reliable source of Mavs news... Any team with room to sign a max free agent is a threat.

A supermaxed kemba is instantly the second or third worst contract in the NBA behind John wall and possibly Chris Paul.

Supermax, sure -- but they're not even wanting to offer him a regular max contract, even though the bulk of their payroll looks like this:
Nic Batum $24m
Bismack Biyombo $17m
Marvin Williams $15m
Cody Zeller $14m
Michael Kidd-Gilchrist $13m
Paying Kemba Walker the regular max of $35m per year wouldn't even be close to the worst contract on this roster... But Hornets writers are starting to spin it that way.

But in the scenario I outlined, Kawhi would be staying in Toronto, so there's no reason a team like the Clippers wouldn't try to entice Kemba with both a max contract and a roster that's only one star away from being a competitor... Every team with cap space is a threat.

As dominoes fall, the competitors for Kemba may change.
This is the reason free agency is such a crap shoot. The Brain Trust knows more than we do, but even they can't be 100% sure who they're bidding against on any given day. Every team has a different sales pitch. Some Players have families. Some players want playgrounds (LeBron to Miami). Can Dallas sell something Kemba wants?
It's hard to bet on anything in July.

LOL, Fish is talking about a way that the Mavs can sign both Kemba and Horford... As if what's possible on paper is plausible in reality.
