@townbrad
Dorian Finney-Smith, Dwight Powell and Josh Richardson are listed as questionable for tomorrow's game at Utah.
Whoa. We might have everyone but Kleber back either next game or the second Utah game.
Kleber is probably Feb 7-14

Now Powell, dfs, and Richardson are all expected to return tomorrow, with dfs and Jrich listed as probable starters.

I’m sure the Covid 3 will play limited minutes for conditioning reasons, but will be nice to have a few defenders to throw at Mitchell.

Rebounding is a lost art for this team. Guys do not anticipate, move to position themselves, nor block out. Luka is hurt, beat up. Hardaway is such a streaky shooter, really like the guy, but someone has to step up on a nightly basis and help Luka. What's wrong now with Porzingis? Time to look at massive trade with Washington near trade deadline for Beal?

Beal is the dream for all of us, but I just don't see it how it happens. A: The Wizards don't want to lose him, so it only happens if he demands a trade, which he seems very reluctant to do. B: If he does demand a trade, there will be teams lining up around the block who have more to offer than the Mavs.

Yeah there is no conceivable way. Even if we include KP. Even if he wants to be here, and I DO think the Washington organization will deal with him in good faith as great as he’s been about the situation, signing the extension, etc. other good teams can beat our offer and offer similar championship contention.

Yeah we don’t have anything anyone wants. No first rounders. Our guys are looking bad. Not a lot of amazing contracts.
I don’t anticipate a move but it will be interesting to see if any small moves happen. It will also be good to have that deadline over with so people stop talking about trades.

EL - I think the Feb. 6 date is when the majority of free agents signed this past offseason become eligible to be traded,
marking the unofficial countdown to the NBA trade deadline (set this year for March 25).
-Per the 'Key Dates' announced by the league, the 2020-21 trade deadline is Thursday, March 25.
Barring any date changes, that would be a couple of weeks after the 'scheduled' second half of the 2020-21 season begins on March 11

Potential Assists*
from*Matej Sportinfo@Sportinfosi
Luka is leading the league in potential assists and a lot of those have been wide open looks. He's averaging 18.5 potential ast and 9.4 ast per game. Harden is 2nd with 18.3 potential ast (11.1 ast per game), Jokic has almost the same number of ast as Luka, with 4 pot. ast less.

We've finally had enough games to get DRPM (defensive real plus/minus)
Kleber - 15th in the league (3rd at his position)
DFS - 18th in the league (5th at his position)
WCS - 35th in the league (13th at his position)
Powell - 188th in the league (41st at his position)
KP - 201st in the league (38th at his position)
Richardson - 202nd in the league (47th at his position)
Boban - 209th in the league (43rd at his position)
Iwundu - 225th in the league (44th at his position)
Green - 245th in the league (62nd at his position)
Brunson - 272nd in the league (35th at his position)
Johnson - 310th in the league (58th at his position)
THJ - 329th in the league (64th at his position)
Burke - 332nd in the league (50th at his position)
Luka - 347th in the league (54th at his position)
Looks really skewed against guys like Luka who played during our skid. I will say though, that Kleber and DFS may be the most instrumental guys we have as far as defense. We play defense, they go out and we can't play defense. They come back and we're good again.

I'm into this stat. It should be used more.
Furthermore, I still think there should be .5 assists for every made free throw when players are fouled on a shot if it is from a pass.

I don't know what all the flack is about DFS
I've always liked him.
He's not a sexy offensive players but he's a solid 3 & D wing.
The Mavs run into problems with DFS when they try to play at the PF spot.
I personally think WCS, Kleber, DFS, Richardson and Luka would be an elite defensive group as starters. But they would lack offensive firepower.
I'd like to see that unit used a little more together again just to sustain leads.

Except there's not much "3." He's a career 33% shooter. Below average. He had was good last year, but that was the outlier so far.

The Mavericks have sent rookie point guard Tyrell Terry to join the Memphis Hustle of the NBA G League ahead of the NBAGL’s Orlando “bubble” season, according to a team tweet. The Mavs’ G League affiliate, the Texas Longhorns, will not be participating in the 18-team 2021 NBAGL season. Dallas drafted Terry with the No. 31 pick in the 2020 NBA draft out of Stanford.

It'll be good to see them get at least a little burn.
Nets will play their first game of the season tomorrow against the Iowa Wolves (Bey/Hinton)
Hustle will also play their first game tomorrow against SA (Terry)

The Dallas Mavericks have ceased playing the national anthem before home games this season and do not plan to play it moving forward.
@tim_cato
tells you about the team's decision, which Mark Cuban confirmed to The Athletic.

Won’t be missed. It has almost exactly nothing to do with sport anyway except that some baseball owner started the tradition after WWI or something. And it’s not even a good song. If Fergie was commissioned to do some sort of art installation where she did it in a distinctively destructive way at every major event I could get behind that.

This seems like the opinion of the Mavs and other NBA teams. Apparently Cuban asked the opponents and not a single one objected. Lot of other coaches and owners supporting Cuban.
However, if you look at the Mavs on FB...whew boy. Cuban must hate America even though he doesn't make a Slovenian, a Latvian, a German, a Serbian, an Australian, and a Canadian stand silently during the anthem even when there is no audience for the games.
Twitter it's 50/50 between "it's long overdue" and "Cuban is a commie bastard"

I could care less about the anthem being played, but it is annoying how many people feel extreme on either side of it.

There's only really one extreme though. You either have people who want it played or people who chose not to acknowledge it. I don't think there's a side that didn't want it played.
Fact of the matter is before Kapernick kneeled nobody gave a damn about the national anthem one way or the other. I'd go to games and post people would either be in the concessions getting food w while it was playing, getting to their seat, on their phone or not even acknowledging it. Its fake outrage. People don't care bout that anthem its the fact people don't want anything taken away from them.
Its funny...I was around these parts when Josh Howard said what he said about it....NBA career was never the same again....

I have been to many games. Season tickets to FCDallas too. The concessions stop sales for national anthem. All the workers hand over heart for the whole thing. Almost everyone stops down for it. Idc personal but I'm not going to pretend that others don't.

Terry 19-4-2
47% from the field, but only 1-4 on threes.
I thought this kid was a sharp shooter?

Yeah I can't speak for FC Dallas but for Mavs games before this whole Kapernick kneeling happen yes, they would still sell and the world would still move regardless of what was being played.
