I don't mean we should fear them but I'd much rather face the Rockets first.

Isn't it a little unfair to note that the Spurs gained Mason and Hill without noting that the Mavs gained J-Kidd (and Bass, for that matter)?

It is. The Spurs gained Mason and Hill while we gained Kidd, Bass, and Wright. We lost Harris, which isn't nice, but compensated that by adding Kidd. I don't think that both teams' rosters changed in a way that this matchup has become totally different compared to 2006.
However, there might be one exception: Stack. He's no longer contributing at all. Back in 2006, he was important and played over 30 minutes per game in the playoffs. He actually scored decisive points in overtime against the Spurs that greatly helped us win that series. It would have been terrific to get a guy like Salmons to play Stack's part.
I don't think that the Spurs are an opponent to look forward to. But which team is just that with the exception of Portland? We lost both games against the Lakers, Hornets, and Nuggets, and lost twice to the Jazz, Rockets, and Spurs this season. There are pros and cons to all opponents, neither one will be a picnic in the park for this Mavs team.

The Spurs also lost Bowen as a major contributor. And Ginobili will never be 100% this season.

I watched the last 30 minutes at 630am. That silly Richardson move might have been the loss for the Spurs.

I don't mind it unless he's playing the Mavs. He's in the east and he's hilarious and a badass.

A 4th one would be amazing. He's the only one who has done it since Jason Kidd did it (3 consecutive triple doubles) in the 2007 - 2008 season. LeBron has been phenomenal this year.

Maybe. I just remember Harris shredding the Spurs defense and getting to the basket any time he wanted. Kidd doesn't provide that though his improved outside shot could make up for it. Kidd also doesn't come anywhere close to guarding Parker like Harris did.
Damp still plays Duncan as well as anyone. Diop also made things difficult for him but I don't see the same results from Bass.
No idea yet what Gooden will provide but if it's anything like his short stint against the Lakers did then that's another solid addition.
A lot will depend on the health of Ginobli and Howard.
The Mavs quite possibly could be without Stackhouse as well.
I can't even remember the rosters clearly. Did the Spurs have Thomas or Bonner? I just remember Elson and a declining Horry.

didn't watch a sec of Utah@Heat, but that passage from the espn/nba game-recap just caught my eye:
Quote:
In regulation, the Jazz led 107-100 with 55 seconds left, before getting outscored 7-0 in the final moments. Chalmers made two free throws, Wade found Udonis Haslem for a dunk on the next Miami possession, and suddenly it was 107-104. O'Neal blocked a dunk by Paul Millsap at the other end, and James Jones made three free throws in the final 16.3 seconds.
|
sounds a little bit strange, but still well-known. Or is it just me, overreacting to fabulous Heat-comebacks? Nevermind, this is probably the wrong board to find that out, anyway.
And then again, it hit Utah, so who cares, everything's fine

Spurs up 7 on the Rockets at the half.
Chicago was rolling on New Orleans but they've cut the lead down to 14 at the half.

That 3 by Finley was a momentum killer for the Rockets.
Yao was killing them down the stretch and Brooks and Artest decide to ignore him and take some tough shots instead. That's got to be frustrating as hell.
Gooden looks damn good for the Spurs. He'll really lead the 2nd unit with Ginobli. He'll only get better once he's back in game shape and gets comfortable with the system.

Utah, Houston and New Orleans losing kinda helps ease the pain from last night's loss...but we'll see how quickly that gets adjusted after tomorrow. At least it's not as bad as it could be.

Finley got a half court shot in tonight. He's been beasting since Ginobilli went down. He killed the Lakers the other night but it wasn't enough to overcome that huge deficit.

It still hurts though from a fan persective anyway that we could've gained a game upon the Hornets, Jazz and Rockets. From the players perspective they're probably relieved they got help from the above teams.

I guess I just stick to the player's perspective.
Sometimes you're not going to be able to do it all yourself, you'll need some help.

Finley would start for us. And solve a lot of problems. Too bad Cuban needed to fatten his wallet.

This is by far the best/most consistent year for Finley in a Spurs uni. And surprisingly he's still playing a lot of minutes. It's not like he's a 10-15 minute guy off the bench. I wouldn't be surprised if he plays another year or two especially since he's avoided any injuries.

Not a chance he would be starting for us. He looks every day of 36 most days. He's barely better offensively than Wright, who is 10x better on the other end, as inconsistent as he is.
And every cent that Cuban dumped with Finley, he picked back up with the Kidd deal. No team in the league would have been willing to pay Fin $42M over the past 3 years. Every single team would have cut him with the Houston exception. Every. Single. Team.

Some of the finest defense is on display in the Warriors-Suns game. Phoenix leads 74-72 at the half.

Did anybody see the injury Devin had in the Clippers game? Ouch. He fell hard on his left side. He was really in pain. He was holding on to his left shoulder or clavicle or somewhere there. He was able to stand up and was helped to the locker room by the NJ Nets trainer.
I hope whatever it is, it won't be serious. Preliminary reports say that the x-rays were negative and its a sprained left shoulder. He won't return to the game.

So after Maggette scored 18 points while only making one field goal the other night, he scored 21 points while making four shots tonight.

Well, thats true.
As a Maverick, did he ever have a season where he didn't miss a significant amount of games due to injury? Is he becoming more injury prone now as he stays longer in the league? Or has it been since the start of his NBA career?

He played 80 games once.
But in his other seasons, he missed 6, 26, 18, and 7 games (so far) this year.
With Devin Harris, you can pretty much expect 15 games every year that he won't play in.
