PJ just needs the reps inside he?s got a nice baby hook. Just get someone in his ear to drive and stop shooting.

I don't think he shoots with any confidence
The difference between him and DJJ is DJJ never loses confidence and he'll try to attack the rim more

Gotta capitalize.

He has given up. Guy has always pouted when he didn't start too.
Hardy and him played the same amount of minutes. I really hope that's a sign.

I really want that 6 seed.
Don?t care about the 5 I?m sick of seeing the clippers. Kawhi will morph for one series and then they?ll get bounced round 2 I know it.

It sucks to see cause outside of the game he?s a really good guy. But man he?s gotta either pull it together, or step aside.

Longest road stretch of the season 5 games. 5 games in 8 days.
Utah
Sac
Sac
Houston
Golden state
Hoping for 3-2, wouldn?t be surprised at 2-3. Also Rockets have won 9 of their last 10 games. This is why those ?2nd easiest schedule remaining? is bullshit.

Here you can see some more of the very fundamental limits that Hardy has as a player. Look at that photo. In that position, Hardy must stop there to assume a position and movement into a pull up jump shot. He should do that because he has space. If he were to do that then perhaps he would draw out one of the Utah big guys which would open the option for a pass for Gafford. And if the big guy does not come out, then Hardy could anyways have an open shot. Instead, look at what he does.

Fun to see Luka being a fan of the game and a Kyrie fan - that alley oop had him with his hands on his head again in disbelief
Also nice to see Luka doing a little give and go action and getting the ball back going to the basket.

That's some serious Hardy cherrypicking when he found Gafford with ease two other times.
Hardy doesn't have a fundamental problem. He has a doesn't get enough minutes to figure things out problem.

Hardy isn?t going to be the number 2 guy. He?s a bench spark plug that needs to take all of THJs minutes. Not holding him to the standard of every drive will be perfect for him. Prefer him to not dribble a ton anyway. He?s lethal off catch and shoot 3s

Gafford with 5 assists. Adapting very well to the defenses collapsing onto him when he gets the ball in the paint. His defense improved too. Him and Lively are really a solid combo. Great get.

PJ Washington seems devoid of confidence offensively. I don't think he trusts his 3-point shot and his drives are inconsistent (but still a better option). Like he plays offense absent feel.

Hardy with 5 assists and 6 points. That is a good contribution. He has a good and proper attitude. But his decision-making will cause problems in playoff situations or any clutch games / moments.

Actually, Hardy driving is one of his better talents.
And honestly, with our lob threat duo, I don't really see why the Mavs would take many if any jump shots anymore. It's been pretty much layup or dunk city. Threes ain't falling and we still won convincingly.

This was a clear AND-1 foul on DJJ. But NBA refs are not calling this for Mavs. NBA refs are letting the Mavs' players get abused. This is now a very clear and a very visible pattern. Mavs were clearly abused in Detroit (and Refs let it), Mavs were clearly abused @ Thunder (and refs let it), and Mavs were abused here with no calls. The biggest threat this team faces in terms of playoff, and any sort of championship, success is injuries.
The league has also very dramatically changed how they officiate Luka. They are no longer giving him the fouls that they use to give him. That is also how the league works to sabotage the Mavs. But that is not a big deal because Luka will and can adapt.
Another thing that was very noticeable is that the refs have also stopped giving Kyrie Irving the respect that he used to have as a MAJOR NBA SUPERSTAR STAR. Because he plays for Mavs now, he commonly doesn't get even obvious calls so that the refs are letting the physical abuse go on on him.

Here is an example of even Kyrie Irving not receiving any respect from the refs so that he could be physically abused. It's from the GSW game.
https://youtu.be/RRfq8eGCWHE?t=622
Look at this call. Look at HOW LATE the ref is making this call.
EVEN THE PLAYER GUARDING KYRIE RAISED HIS OWN HAND TO INDICATE THAT HE MADE A FOUL. AND THE REFEREE STILL DIDN'T WANT TO BLOW THE WHISTLE.
This is Kyrie Irving. One of the biggest stars in the league. And this is AN OBVIOU FOUL. But the ref doesn't want to call it. So the ref calls it only when he must. When it becomes soooo obvious that Kyrie is even running out of the court.
So the refs make calls like that all the time. For Dallas Mavericks, they make calls only when they feel and think THAT THEY MUST given the situation. And for other teams they officiate in the opposite direction.
So the ref makes this call here only so as to avoid giving an obvious appearance that he is biased. Because it became soo obvious to everyone that it was a foul so he HAD TO make a call.
What you must know is that a player like Kyrie Irving can be very easily incapacitated with this abuse. He can be crashed a few times in a game, twist his wrist, lose his shooting touch. HE IS A FINESSES PLAYER. He depends on referees to protect him. But the refs are not doing that. Instead they encourage the abuse against the whole Mavs team.

This was a good play by Hardy. But that was A PRE-SET PLAY. That was what Kidd drew on the board to open the new quarter with.
So Hardy can execute that but he struggles with decision-making on his own when he is put in playmaking positions.
And if defense were to adapt in this situation and defend this pass, then Hardy WOULD AGAIN STRUGGLE.

This is the play that Kidd highlighted at the press conference. Kidd is trying to get THJ out of his slum and not to force things so much. Kidd highlighted this play because THJ avoided to shoot (for once!) and passed the ball instead, which led to a great play.
What Kidd is telling THJ is this: "If your shot is not going in pass the ball. And if there is an open teammate in a better position, also pass the ball." Kidd is telling that to everyone.
Hardy doesn't have problems with that. But his decision making is poor. He is young.

Thoughts from tonight's game-
1. Hardy >>>>> THJ
2. Nice to see us win convincingly when the threes aren't falling.
3. Daniel Gafford fucking rules.
That is all.

I worry about the three-point shooting. Over the last three games, we've averaged just 30.3% on threes. For perspective, the Grizzlies are league-worst at 34.8% on the season. Our shooting is really bad.
Then again, we're finding ways to win in the paint and mid-range. If our ability to hit thress comes back, we could be really, really good.

I?m not worried about it. Shooting slumps just happen. Whether hot or cold, Players almost always revert back to their career averages.

I'd expect Luka and PJ averages to return, and more Hardy over THJ could prove to lessen terrible attempts that drag it down. Maxi hitting a few recently would bode well for the back end of the three attempts. But yea, gotta get the guys like DJJ and PJ to hit the open looks and I think it will happen.
Like you said, once that happens, this team could be very, very tough to beat any night, much less in a series.

Kinda bonkers that we could have been 10-0.
If you drink to forget the six game stretch out of the ASB where Kidd failed to adjust the defense and we have been 16-1

And we still almost beat the Thunder that game. Absolutely win that if Luka plays.
Some cocky Thunder fans love to trash Luka. Let's see that same energy in the playoffs.

Getting Tyson Chandler/Shawn Marion level of importance vibes with Gafford and Washington.
Those acquisitions at the deadline completely changed the dynamic of this team.

PJ needs to prove that he's not an offensive liability before I think he deserves to be compared to Matrix, or even that he was worth trading one of our precious few available draft picks. But if he can get back to his career average of 35% 3pt, it's not outlandish. And the Gafford/Lively two-headed monster is absolutely a game changer. Going from having probably the worst center rotation in the league to easily one of the best is just astounding.

Yep I agree here 100%
I'm never comparing PJ to Marion because matrix could move without the ball and hit a few clutch 3's
He avg like 12-14 points and shot a better overall FG%than PJ
PJ and DJJ mirror the tandem of Marion and Deshaun Stephenson but they aren't on their level yet

In January, PJ shot 42% from three, so I think he is just having a bad couple of months.
But honestly, the entire team isn't hitting threes right now.
So you just keep doubling down on dunks, layups, and defense.
Why not? Layups and dunks are your highest percentage shots. I'm kinda surprised the league has continued with these ridiculous threes season after season.
I'd prefer to watch what we did against the Jazz 10/10.

No concern over 3pt% drops. At all. I was years past sick and tured of live and die by the 3 ball.
We got what we wanted in rebounding, defense and center upgrade and man was it a great fit. Nothing effects PJs effort on defense, doesnt matter if his shot is falling or if he isnt getting thr ball a lot. He is more agile and versitile on defense than DFS and he attacks off the dribble better. It woukd be perfect if he were shooting 38% on 3s but our offense doesnt rely on that now. And its fn awesome.
If we can just handcuff THJ to Morris and DP and let Hardy finish the season as 6th/7th man it would go a long way by the time play-in or playoffs come.
