Source told CBSSPORTS that Mavs are making a serious run to replace VC with Mike Miller.

I thought he was a lock to Cleveland. A case on mavs putting their name to every FA possible, per the usual.

I would so much rather have Stephenson than Ariza if Houston matches Parsons. Stephenson is younger, better defender, better passer, better ball handler, better finisher, and much more versatile being about to play the 2, 3, and even some point. Also he brings toughness that we could really use. Ariza is a solid option, but I'd hesitate to pay him what he's asking for ($9-12mill) after only one productive season last year. He has career averages of below 10ppg and 34% from three... last year he put up 14ppg on 40% from three... but there's a good chance his production goes down next season. Not to mention that he's already 29. Stephenson is 23 and has much more upside. Hopefully he's our #1 option if Parsons is matched, and Ariza is #2. I'd easily give Lance $12m/per, leaving a little money for Mo or DJ or whoever.

Don't know if this is old news, but Melo getting 5/120m back with the Knicks.
Only bombshell left is Parsons (and whether Bulls/Spurs will get Gasol)

@Probballdraft: Several teams I spoke to in Vegas believe Trevor Ariza will be the most over payed FA. Probably worth $8M but likely to get $12-13M.

wow. I have a feeling when weighing ariza/stephenson, Mavs would be more inclined to take Lance's price tag and run with it.

Love Ariza's defense, but I do wonder about his PER, rebounding and overall production when not in a contract year. He's only shot 40% from three once (last year/contract year), only pulled down more than 12ppg/5.5rpg twice (2009-2010 and 2013-2014, both contract years).
Maybe he's just getting better-- he came to the NBA without three-point range (23.7% from the NCAA three), but I do wonder if he'll be more of a defensive guy who averages 11/5 once he gets a new contract and 11-13mill is a bit steep for a 14/6 guy and way steep for an 11/5 guy.

Im not trusting Arizas shooting numbers at all. Wouldnt be surprised if its next year back to 36% from downtown.
I like this comment on clutchfans
Quote:
However, Ariza simply isn't that good of a basketball player. He's awkward on the court, can't attack, can't post, can't finish, can't create for himself, is not good finding open players, weak post entry passer, doesn't get to the line, he has trouble with 3's from the right side - the same side Dwight posts up 50% of the time.
Tucker at $6mil is such a better deal. Ariza is not the guy we need, not on this team as currently constructed, not at his current inflated market rate.
I usually trust Morey but Ariza is a miscalculation. Unless he can be traded easily, an Ariza signing would break me right now. He's the guy you give the full MLE to in a year when you're already stacked. He's not someone you bring in to be the 3rd, 4th or 5th most important cog in the rotation.

If JET gets bought out I think it's probably a given that he'll sign with Dallas for the vet min. He won't replace what Vince did for the Mavs the last two years, but I'd still be glad to have him back.

Just need someone to clean up afterwards…let's see, who could they get?
In all seriousness, if there ends up being a spot available, Caron wouldn't be the worst guy to bring in on a vet min deal. Not a rotation player anymore, but if you're looking for a veteran SF in the locker room who can occasionally come in and spot up from three, he fits the bill.

Can't we just sign Stephenson and fill in two roster spots with Bouncers who can hold him down whenever he acts like a moron? Seems like a legit strat to me.

Left field but thoughts on Bledsoe? Seems weird that Phoenix would sign IT2 and try to build team around IT2/Dragic/Bled.
Could we throw the Parsons contract at Bledsoe if Houston matches?

Last thing I heard, Phoenix was looking to build a speed team-- play three guards with PJ Tucker as PF. Might be crazy enough to work and their recent guard acquisitions don't necessarily point to letting Bledoe go.
I'd probably put Bledsoe at about 50% chance of returning, 49% of SnT, and 1% of being picked up by another team in FA. Phoenix will either match any offer or they'll trade him away for assets, but they won't let him go.
On the other hand, if they'll take Wright/Felton, pick(s), and cash for him, I'd be all over that. Bledsoe is a tank, and while not as good rebounding the ball as Stephenson, brings that same level of fire, defense and physical ball as Lance. It's a pipedream, but that team would be sick with Bledsoe/Ellis/Parsons/Dirk/Chandler.

I read that the Suns want to have IT as 6th off the bench...and they like to have this 3 guard rotation.

Dallas should seriously look at Greg Stiemsma as the backup Center for Tyson Chandler. Stiemsma is a big dude at 6'11, he plays hard and block shots. I think that would be a good pickup

@ESPNSteinLine: Unless Bulls have salary-cap trick no can see right now, looks like they will be forced to amnesty Carlos Boozer by Wednesday's deadline

Houston under the cap. They'll be offered Boozer won't they?
Then they'll have their PF. We can have our SF.
Everyone's happy, right?
